2 The President’s Corner (Spring 2014)

The Athletic Boosters have been busy this spring supporting our athletes, coaches and administrators. We have much to be thankful for and many people to thank!

Thanks first to all of our concession volunteers who provide the manpower to run the concession stands at our four spring venues. Concessions are the biggest source of our annual fundraising, so even just a few two-hour shifts each season are a great help. A special thanks to Lisa Stewart who manages this large operation and Kelly Lesperance who organizes the volunteers. We had a good spring season, but we had to remain closed on too many nights because we did not have parent volunteers for the snack bars. Your time translates directly into money for our athletes, so please give your time generously!

Thank you to all our parents who stepped up to be team reps this season. This is never the easiest job, but it is always rewarding. Without you, our athletes would not have had a positive sports experience.

A special thanks to Geneen Roby, Lisa Stewart and Merrell Ashley for organizing our annual Falls Church Athletic Boosters Classic. Due to their efforts, we had a great crowd which netted over $4,800 for our athletes!

Thanks to Jane Roxbrough for organizing and administering the John Morris Scholarship—a program that is both a source of pride for the school and a benefit to two deserving student athletes each year.

Thank you to every athlete and Falls Church family who helped promote our spring mattress sale— whether you put a sign in your yard, passed out flyers or dressed in a mattress costume on the day of the sale. Thanks to Kim Darling for coordinating the entire event. Thank you to all families who shopped and/or bought a mattress or two. Because of your efforts we sold 29 mattresses and raised over $3,000!

Thank you to all parents and students who buy Falls Church spirit wear from the Boosters. A small amount from each purchase helps raise funds for our athletes. It all adds up!

My personal thanks to the parents who presently comprise the Booster Board: Lynn Petrazzuolo, Lisa Stewart, Kelly Lesperance, Kathy Moore, Charlie Quandt, Liz Nalle, Butch and Beth Poplin, and Merrell and Allyson Ashley. The Board meets monthly, communicates by email numerous times each week and keeps all the balls rolling to ultimately help our student athletes. A special thanks to Lynn, Charlie and Liz, who are leaving the Board after many years of dedicated service.

As others leave the Board, we need new parents to take their place. If you have one or more student athletes at Falls Church, now is the time to step up and be a part of this essential organization. We have jobs big and small for everyone. Our student-athletes stepped up their game this year by winning 3 Conference 13 Championships. Now it is our turn to step up our game! Contact me or talk to any Board member. Please know we welcome everyone to our monthly meetings. Subscribe to our Booster Blast newsletter at [email protected] to learn about the latest happenings including upcoming meetings. We also welcome new and better ideas, so feel free to contact any board member or me to talk about how we can all support our student athletes at Falls Church.
