Since the eighteenth century, the United Kingdom has been one of the world’s greatest tea consumers, with an average annual per capital tea supply of 1.9 kg. The British Empire was instrumental in spreading tea from China to India.

English Tea |£2.80 The original English Breakfast was believed to have been developed and blended in Edinburgh by Eric Drysdale. The original blend used from India, Sri Lanka and China. Nowadays it’s a full-bodied tea with a ‘get up and go’ flavour that is especially enticing with a dash of milk.

Earl Grey Tea |£2.80 The myth tells how Charles Grey, the second Earl Grey, travelled to China on an important mission and, while there, saved the life of a mandarin. As a token of his gratitude, he gave the Earl a recipe for scented with oil of bergamot. The Earl brought it back to England and gave it to his family’s tea dealer who created the blend for the Earl. But much of this tale is so improbable that it should be taken with a very large pinch of salt! Decaffeinated |£2.80 A great tea from Malawi, the tea is decaffeinated before processing when the leaf is still green and fresh resulting in a tea with a true malty taste and full-bodied flavour. Bukhial TGFOP |£2.80 The introduction of the Assam tea bush to Europe is attributed to Robert Bruce, a Scottish adventurer, who apparently encountered it in the year 1823. Bruce reportedly found the plant growing “wild” in Assam while trading in the region. China Pinhead |£2.80 Pinhead Gunpowder also known as Pingshui is believed to have been named ‘gunpowder’ after an English clerk thought the tiny rolled green leaf balls looked just like gunpowder. The brew is a strong, dark green with a memorable fragrance. A slightly bitter, but not unpleasant flavour it’s important to note that gunpowder tea is more dense than other green teas and as such requires less to make. Gunfire |£7.00 A British cocktail made of black tea and rum. It has its origins in the British Army where it was served by Officers to lower ranks before a morning attack (as a form of Dutch courage) and as a celebration before a passing out parade.
