Skill Development Mission has opened up opportunities to give wings to dreams of people: Minister of State for Vocational Education & Skill Development, Prof. Abhishek Mishra We want to move to industry-based economy from agrarian one: Chief Secretary, Shri Alok Ranjan New Delhi | Jan 17, 2015: Uttar Pradesh made a strong pitch for educating top business leaders of the world from several countries along with business captains from India about the upcoming industry-friendly infrastructure and rapidly improving doing-business environment in the State here today. “Uttar Pradesh is the first state to form a distinct ministry for skill development. Around 110,000 people have been already trained under U.P. Skill Development Mission, providing wealth creation opportunities through entrepreneurship”, stated Minister of State for Vocational Education and Skill Development, Prof. Abhishek Mishra. He was speaking in a panel discussion on Infrastructure at ET Global Business Summit organized by a prominent media group (Times of India Group) at Hotel Taj Palace here today. Referring to tremendous demand for skilled working force, Prof. Mishra said that U.P. was extending structural intervention to rural areas with private partners across Page 1 of 4 Press Release – Infrastructure & Industrial Development Dept, U.P. the state to train youth. He informed that first model centre with skilled people to hire from had been opened in Lucknow and very soon such model centre would be launched in NOIDA and Ghaziabad region. Delivering keynote address for Government of U.P., Chief Secretary, Shri Alok Ranjan said that state was focusing on transition to industry based economy from the present agrarian one. He said that 20,000 Mw of power would be generated within next two years with largest budget allocation for power sector, which would ensure quality power supply to whole state. He informed the audience comprising of top industrialists and investors about the flagship mega projects including Agra- Lucknow Expressway, and four-laning of district headquarters in U.P. Chief Secretary said that U.P. was the only state to initiate metro rail mass transit system in various cities simultaneously, including – Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Varanasi, etc. In the morning, the Uttar Pradesh Pavilion was inaugurated by Minister of Energy & Climate Change, United Kingdom - Baroness Verma in the august presence of Shri Abhishek Mishra – Minister of State for Vocational Education & Skill Development, Shri Yasar Shah – Minister of State for Energy, Chief Secretary, Shri Alok Ranjan. Belgian Secretary of State for Foreign Trade – Mr Pieter De Crem and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to India – Mr Jan Luykx. Principal Secretary, Infrastructure & Industrial Development – Shri Sanjiv Saran, Principal Secretary, MSME – Shri Mahesh K Gupta, Principal Secretary, Information – Shri Navneet Sahgal, MD, UPSIDC – Shri Manoj Singh and Special Secretary, Industrial Development – Ms Kanchan Verma were also present along with Shri Sachin Agarwal, MD – PTC Industries. An intensive interactive session on opportunities and facilities available in Uttar Pradesh was held involving State Ministers, officials and delegations from United Kingdom and Belgium. Shri Abhishek Mishra and Chief Secretary informed about the potential sectors for investment and rapidly improving doing business environment in the State. There was unprecedented response from business leaders and promising investors about the changing scenario of business and industry in Uttar Pradesh. Minister of Energy & Climate Change, United Kingdom - Baroness Verma said, “UK is keen to assist in three areas, including Renewable Energy, Waste Management and Women empowerment. However, she asked for long-term stability of policies. She said that State’s NRI initiative was a welcome step, it would help attract investment from UK NRIs. Belgian delegation expressed willingness to establish online consulate in Lucknow with focus on jewellery. They also expressed interest in hi-tech manufacturing, inland waterways and waste management. A business and government delegation from South Australia requested for a visit by government delegation to Australia for building better trade ties. Better cooperation in flood control and energy generation was requested to Nepalese Minister of Commerce – Mr Sunil Bahadur Thapa, who stressed on rural integration of trade and SME technologies U.P. Pavilion had been embellished with models of flagship mega infrastructure projects under implementation in the State, including Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Trans-Ganga City-Unnao, Sangam City, Naini-Allahabad, Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor. Tajmahal and Lucknow Metro panels were standout attractions in the pavilion. Uttar Pradesh is participating as ‘State Partner’ in Global Business Summit being organized by a prominent media group (Times of India Group) in New Delhi. A high level government and business delegation is representing Uttar Pradesh in this summit. Minister of State for Vocational Education and Skill Development - Shri Abhishek Mishra, Minister of State for Forest - Shri Farid Mehfooz Kidwai and Minister of State for Energy – Shri Yasar Shah as well as Deputy Chairman of State Planning Commission – Shri N C Bajpei and Advisor to State Government – Shri Madhukar Jetley along with around 20-member strong team of top government functionaries led by Chief Secretary, Shri Alok Ranjan partook in the deliberations.
