Given the inherent difficulties in locating and surveying orchids in their natural habitat, an accurate guide to their flowering times will be an invaluable tool to field botanists, consultants and orchid enthusiasts alike. Flowering Times of Tasmanian Orchids: A Practical Guide for Field Botanists has been developed by Tasmania’s leading orchid experts, drawing collectively on many decades of field experience. The result is the most comprehensive State reference on orchid flowering available. By virtue of its ease of use, accessibility and identification of accurate windows for locating our often-cryptic orchids, it will actually assist in conservation by enabling land managers and consultants to more easily comply with the survey requirements of a range of land-use planning processes. The use of this guide will enhance efforts to locate new populations and increase our understanding of the distribution of orchid species. The Threatened Species Section commends this guide and strongly recommends its use as a reference whenever surveys for orchids are undertaken. TROPICAL PLANT KNOWLEDGE FOR SCIENCE AND SOCIETY PLANT SCIENCE AT THE AUSTRALIAN TROPICAL HERBARIUM 2019 IMPACT STORY DIY RAINFOREST PLANT IDENTIFICATION FOR EVERYBODY The study, use, and conservation of rainforest plants depends on being able to quickly and accurately identify the species. The tools and skills required are rarely widely available to the public, however. In response, we have built an online, free-to-use, identification system that allows anyone, anywhere to easily identify Australian tropical rainforest plants. The ‘Rainforest Key’ is used worldwide by thousands of different people every month, supporting research, understanding, management and enjoyment of these unique plants and the ecosystems they comprise. Part 1 – Preliminary 1.1 Name of Act This Act is the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016. 1.2 Commencement This Act commences on a day or days to be appointed by proclamation. 1.3 Purpose of Act The purpose of this Act is to maintain a healthy, productive and resilient environment for the greatest well-being of the community, now and into the future, consistent with the principles of ecologically sustainable development (described in section 6 (2) of the Protection of the Environment Administration Act 1991), and in particular: (a) to conserve biodiversity at bioregional and State scales, and (b) to maintain the diversity and quality of ecosystems and enhance their capacity to adapt to change and provide for the needs of future generations, and (c) to improve, share and use knowledge, including local and traditional Aboriginal ecological knowledge, about biodiversity conservation, and (d) to support biodiversity conservation in the context of a changing climate, and (e) to support collating and sharing data, and monitoring and reporting on the status of biodiversity and the -

Biodiversity Summary for NRM Regions Species List What is the summary for and where does it come from? This list has been produced by the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPC) for the Natural Resource Management Spatial Information System. The list was produced using the AustralianAustralian Natural Natural Heritage Heritage Assessment Assessment Tool Tool (ANHAT), which analyses data from a range of plant and animal surveys and collections from across Australia to automatically generate a report for each NRM region. Data sources (Appendix 2) include national and state herbaria, museums, state governments, CSIRO, Birds Australia and a range of surveys conducted by or for DEWHA. For each family of plant and animal covered by ANHAT (Appendix 1), this document gives the number of species in the country and how many of them are found in the region. It also identifies species listed as Vulnerable, Critically Endangered, Endangered or Conservation Dependent under the EPBC Act. A biodiversity summary for this region is also available. This includes all mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs and fish, 137 families of vascular plants (over 15,000 species) and a range of invertebrate groups. Glamorgan Spring Bay Council Swanwick Reserve NATIVE FLORA AND FAUNA MANAGEMENT PLAN 2014 - 2019 GSBC – Swanwick Reserve Native Flora and Fauna Management Plan 2014 – 2019 SUMMARY Glamorgan Spring Bay Council (GSBC) has developed this five year Native Flora and Fauna Management Plan for the Swanwick Coastal Reserve under their management. The intent of the Plan is to provide Council with a strategic approach to the sustainable management of the vegetation and other natural values within the Reserve. The condition of the remnant native vegetation in the Reserve is excellent and includes the following communities: • Coastal scrub (SSC) • Acacia longifolia coastal scrub (SAL) None of these are listed as threatened communities under the Nature Conservation Act 2002 . Other TASVEG mapping units present are: • Regenerating cleared land (FRG). No threatened plant or fauna species, listed under either the Tasmanian Threatened Species Protection Act 1995 (TSPA) or the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBCA), are present in the Reserve. Notable weeds are mapped and described. These include 2 species of ‘declared weeds’ under the Weed Management Act 1999 and 1 other species considered to be an environmental weed.
