HINO Team SUGAWARA HINO Team SUGAWARA is a father-and-son team comprised of Yoshimasa Sugawara, who, despite being over 70 years old, remains an active driver and the owner of the Dakar Rally records of 34 consecutive entries and 20 consecutive finishes, and his second son Teruhito Sugawara. The team competes using two Hino Rangers and consists of a navigator and a lead mechanic who have the full confidence of the Sugawaras, a sub-lead mechanic with a high level of craftsmanship skill that is indispensable onsite, skilled mechanics selected by open recruitment from the Hino Sales Group all over , as well as distributors in the host country who operate a vehicle inspection and maintenance base prior to the start of the race, to complete a total support network for the team, formed by the entire Hino Group.

After entering numerous domestic races, and having various adventures like crossing the Sahara Desert, etc., he entered the motorbike division of the Paris-Dakar Rally for the first time in 1983. Since then, Yoshimasa has entered the four-wheel drive division seven times and has been competing in a Hino Ranger since 1992. He has a record of six runner-up finishes in the overall truck division and seven wins in the under 10-liter class. He is the Guinness World Record holder for the most consecutive completed races in the history of the Rally, which stands at 20, and in 2017 he improved his Guinness World Record for most consecutive entries to 34.

(2) Truck 2: Teruhito Sugawara Teruhito was born on July 13, 1972. He is Yoshimasa Sugawara’s second son. He first participated in the Dakar Rally in 1998 as a mechanic, then became his father’s navigator beginning in the following year. After gaining experience in domestic off-road races, the Mongol Rally, etc., Teruhito won the overall championship in the truck division of the 2003 Pharaons Rally (Egypt) driving a Hino Ranger. The pair began entering the Dakar Rally in a two-vehicle, father-and-son team in 2005, and they won their first championship in the under 10-liter (engine displacement) class in 2007. In 2017 they won their eighth consecutive championship in that same class.
