Birthplace: Birthdate: Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee August 23, 1952 King, Ontario

A steady performer at the international level for more than 30 years, Mac Cone is the only athlete to have competed on both the United States and Canadian Equestrian Teams. Following early beginnings that saw him train under the legendary Bert de Nemethy and win Nations’ Cup events for the United States, the Memphis native moved north in 1979 to marry Canadian Brenley Carpenter.

Riding the Hannoverian stallion, Elute, Mac was the highest-placed Canadian rider at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. It was a feat he would repeat at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain, riding Cocu. His current grand prix string consists of Melinda, his Team Silver Medal partner at the 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, and Ole, the winner of the $60,000 Kilkenny Cup Grand Prix at the highly-competitive 2008 Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.

In addition to his skills as a rider, Mac is deservedly recognized for his coaching abilities having trained 1986 World Champion Gail Greenough. He counts 2003 Pan American Games contender, Mark Samuel, and 2002 World Equestrian Games teammate, Melissa Brown among his current clients at Southern Ways Stable. Horses Horses

Alberta native Darrin Dlin rocketed onto the Canadian show jumping scene in 2007. With impressive results during the winter circuit in his hometown of Wellington, Florida, Darrin made the decision to spend the summer season in Canada contesting the 2007 Pan American Games Selection Trials.

As fate would have it, he won the fi rst two qualifying events in the Canadian World Cup League. In July, he led the victory gallop in the $70,000 World Cup Grand Prix Jumping du Quebec in Blainville, Quebec, and, one month later, claimed the $100,000 Caledon Equestrian Park Grand Prix in Palgrave, ON. At the close of the Canadian World Cup season, Darrin’s position in the standings earned him an invitation to the World Cup Final in Goteborg, Sweden, where he made his debut riding for Canada in international competition. Even more impressive is the fact that his horse, Catwalk, was bred in Canada.

One of Canada’s most talented riders, Eric Lamaze is a serious contender whenever and wherever he enters the grand prix ring. The three-time Canadian Show Jumping Champion has represented Canada at the past four consecutive World Equestrian Games in 1994, 1998, 2002 and most recently 2006 where he placed second during the fi rst two days of competition. In 1999, he was a member of the Canadian team that captured the Bronze Medal at the Pan American Games, again represented Canada at the 2003 Pan American Games and, in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, captured Team Silver and Individual Bronze Pan Am Medals riding Hickstead.

Easily Canada’s leading money earner for 2007, Eric’s scored an incredible victory for Canada at the 2007 Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament by winning the $1 million CN Grand Prix. It marked the fi rst time that a Canadian had won the richest grand prix event in the world since Ian Millar and Big Ben in 1991.

Eric operates Torrey Pines Stables in Schomberg, Ontario, where he coaches many promising show jumping competitors. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis and squash.

Birthplace: Birthdate: Hometown: Birthplace: Birthdate: Hometown: Halifax, Nova Scotia January 6, 1947 Perth, Ontario

With eight Olympic starts as of the 2004 Athens Olympics, Ian Millar has competed in more Olympic Games than any athlete in Canadian history, in any sport. At age 61, he is still on top of his game and hopes to make his ninth Olympic appearance in August of 2008.

If Millar’s Olympic record is impressive for longevity, his Pan American Games record is equally so for his medal count. He has earned nine medals in eight Pan American Games, more than any other show jumper.

In spite of his Olympic and Pan American Games records, it was the World Cup of show jumping where Millar fi rst broke new ground. In 1988 and ’89, he and his legendary partner, Big Ben, became the fi rst-ever horse and rider combination to win back-to-back World Cup Finals.

The most decorated equestrian in Canadian history, Millar is a member of the Order of Canada, was Ontario’s Athlete of the Year in 1989, was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1996, and was awarded an honourary doctorate by the University of Guelph, Ontario in 2005. Horses Horses

Andrew Hyde Moffatt had an unusual introduction to horses. When he was fi ve years old, a girl at school brought in her horse for show-and-tell and Hyde was hooked!

Hyde entered the grand prix ranks riding Ting Tin, a son of the well-known sire Chin Chin. Starting their Grand Prix career together in 2004, Hyde and Ting Tin steadily improved with each outing, enjoying top ten fi nishes at several of the biggest horse shows in Canada including the Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament, the Collingwood Horse Show, Tournament of Champions, and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. In 2007, Hyde brought two more horses up to the grand prix level, Denver and Kelly du Lautier. He also competes with several horses in the Young Horse Development Series including Atlanta van de Padenborre, who was crowned the 2007 National Seven and Eight-Year-Old Champion.

In addition to his equestrian pursuits, Hyde also enjoys long distance running.

Growing up on a ranch in Kamloops, British Columbia, Tamie Phillips started taking formal jumping lessons at the age of nine and, after successfully showing as a teenager, turned professional on her 18th birthday. Her fi rst taste of national success came in the mid-90’s when she qualifi ed for the Talent Squad Finals at Toronto’s Royal Horse Show.

In 2004, Tamie moved to Strathmore, Alberta, where she operates Caragana Show Jumpers. A fabulous 2005 season at Spruce Meadows riding Starlet saw Tamie receive the Chrysler Leading Canadian Rider Award. In 2006, Tamie was named a Canadian Team alternate for the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, and, after winning the $35,000 Kubota Cup Derby in Richmond, BC, riding Lucas, was crowned the Western Canada Kubota Cup Champion for the second year in a row.

Horses are a way of life for Phillips and her family. Her mother, Merle Gard- ner, and her younger sister, Shawna Phillips, operate a horse business in Williams Lake, British Columbia. Tamie and her mother bred both Lucas and Starlet, promising indications of what their small breeding program is capable of producing.

For Chris Pratt, it all began with four goats. After spending his fi rst ten years in the city, Chris moved to a farm north of Toronto. There were sheep, chickens, goats - everything but horses. Tired of hearing Chris ask for a pony, his father fi nally relented, trading four goats for what would become a lifelong commitment for Chris.

The fi rst sign that Chris was destined for greatness came in 1994 when he topped the Kanatek Talent Squad and also received a Firestone Development Scholarship. Over the past fi ve seasons, Chris has racked up impressive victories including back-to-back wins in the $125,000 CN Grand Prix and the $60,000 Kubota Cup Grand Prix during the Bromont International in July of 2006. That same year, Chris made his offi cial Nations’ Cup debut in Wellington, contributing two clear rounds to help Canada secure victory, and represented Canada at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.

At the beginning of 2007, Chris headed to California to work with U.S. Equestrian Team member, Richard Spooner, and has been enjoying impressive results ever since, most notably in World Cup qualifying competition. When not riding, Chris can often be found on the golf course.
