S Beverly Hills Epitomizes Upscale Travel
California’s Beverly Hills Epitomizes Upscale Travel by Lee Foster Travel in the United States has become decidedly upscale, for some. Observers of travel have watched as this measurable trend developed. For a small, but identifiable segment of travelers, price is no object. What is of concern is the highest quality in accommodations, dining, and experience. This is the traveler whom every destination now seeks to woo. For the majority of travelers, reports on this privileged minority amount to armchair or fantasy travel, an act of vicarious gratification. Nowhere in the U.S. is the phenomenon of upscale travel better expressed than in Beverly Hills , CA . This writer on one occasion immersed himself in this elite travel environment. It is fitting that here the movie industry, the makers of illusion, also finds its home. Beverly Hills passed its 90th birthday in 2004 and headed confidently towards 100. The old gal isn’t allowing herself to show her age, of course, because plenty of cosmetic surgery is ongoing in the hotels, shops, and restaurants. “We see ourselves as an oasis where the traveler can find the highest quality goods, the best hotels and restaurants, and the ultimate in service,” said the Beverly Hills ‘ mayor. LODGINGS: STARTING AT RAFFLES L’ERMITAGE Raffles L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills may well be the choicest lodging in America . Such objective observers as AAA and Mobil have awarded it their coveted five star/diamond ratings, which are tough to get and rarely coincide in one property. L’Ermitage enjoys plenty of competition in Beverly Hills from the Beverly Hills Hotel, Regent Beverly Wilshire, and Beverly Hilton. -

Biography a Five-Time Grammy-Winning Musician, Actor
Biography A five-time Grammy-winning musician, actor, artist, activist and humanitarian, Ziggy Marley has established his presence on the public stage for over a quarter-century. His newest release, Ziggy Marley In Concert, is a collection of live recordings from his 2012 Wild and Free World Tour. The album, which will release digitally on iTunes December 18th before its worldwide physical release on January 15th of 2013, continues to convey Marley’s overall message of love, freedom, hope and challenge. The album features live tracks from his Grammy-nominated and critically acclaimed 2011 release Wild and Free, including the funky and fun-loving “Forward To Love,” the upbeat groove-driven “Reggae in My Head,” and the rock-fueled reggae anthem “Wild and Free.” Live versions of the Bob Marley classics “War” and “Is This Love” also appear on the album as well as Ziggy’s hits “Tomorrow People” and “True To Myself.” In recent years, Marley has been involved in a slew of projects including an extensive world tour that spanned most of 2011 and 2012. Among those dates was a group of themed tribute shows, “Tuff Gong Worldwide and Ziggy Marley Salute the Legends of Reggae,” which played at various Southern California venues in 2012, including a sell-out show at the Hollywood Bowl. Additional projects include serving as executive producer of the celebrated documentary MARLEY(Shangri-La Entertainment), hosting his own monthly radio show, Legends of Reggae, on SiriusXM’s The Joint, and launching a GMO-free food line called Ziggy Marley Organics. In April of 2011, Marley released his first ever comic book, Marijuanaman (Image Comics), which was published on the symbolically potent date of 4/20. -

sprinkles folio 2017 © a l m project inc sprinkles folio 2017 © a l m project inc a l m project’s design for the first Sprinkles bakery, in Beverly Hills in 2005, was driven by the desire to express the joyful spirit and quality of its singular product, the cupcake. Designing a store for a single product that also happens to be rather small, was both challenge and liberation. Because the central narrative of the space was the notion that cupcakes evoke nostalgia and childhood memories, it was key to put the cupcake on stage, and then to create a whole world around it. sprinkles folio 2017 © a l m project inc We started with the design of the display: the signature cupcake array – in which each cupcake is precisely placed in a grid – communicates care with its organized appearance, and by preventing the cupcakes from touching each other, keeps the frosting perfect every time. Glimpsed through the clear wrapper peephole in the front door, the cupcake array it is at the heart of the store and the first thing the customer sees. From there the space unfolds: fun, approachable, yet sophisticated. Intimate in scale, it is made to recall European bakeries, awash in natural light and flooded with the scent of baked goods. sprinkles folio 2017 © a l m project inc Shortly after the opening of the world’s first 1 2 3 cupcake-only bakery, our role expanded from then on functioning as architect, creative director and design agency for all aspects of the Sprinkles universe. And soon Sprinkles grew: from store to website to app, from Cupcake Mobile to Ice Cream Cart to the first 24- hour Cupcake ATM, we designed every element to be delightful and resonant for customers young and old alike.
