Hérésies : une construction d’identités religieuses Quelles sortes de communautés réunissent les hommes ? Comment sont- elles construites ? Où est l’unité, où est la multiplicité de l’humanité ? Les hommes peuvent former des communautés distinctes, antagonistes, s’opposant violemment. La division externe est-elle nécessaire pour bâtir une cohésion interne ? Rien n’est plus actuel que ces questions. Parmi toutes ces formes de dissensions, les études qui composent ce volume s’intéressent à l’hérésie. L’hérésie se caractérise par sa relativité. Nul ne se revendique hérétique, sinon par provocation. En retour, c’est bien parce qu’un courant se proclame orthodoxe que les courants concurrents peuvent être accusés d’hérésie. Sans opinion correcte, pas de choix déviant. La thématique de l’hérésie s’inscrit ainsi dans les questions de recherche sur l’altérité religieuse. -

CHAPTER I ( INTRODUCTION \ India is a land of Immense variety, not only in its physical features, climate and natural resources, but also, and perhaps more so, in its people, languages and culture. People at various stages of civilization from the very primitive to the highly advanced, and of various racial ancestries from the Negrito to the Nordic are found in this vast sub-continent. Successive advents of peoples of highly varied cultural and racial types into the land for thousands of years, have forced the original inhabitants, and possibly some of the subsequent settlers, into the relative security and freedom of the forests and hinterland of the country. These peoples who are found all the way from north to south, and east to west, form the tribal population of India, No exact estimate of their numbers has ever been made, nor will it be possible, < 'i L due to a variety of reasons. Census figures of tribes vary greatly from one Census to another, not so much due to natural demographic variations as to changing definitions and criteria in classifying peoples. The comparatively recent classification of a section of people as »Scheduled Tribes* is a political, rather than strictly ethnographic, 2 classification. Equally misleading is the classification of people according to Religion, as for instance, Hindus and Animists, or Hindus and Tribals. Kingsley Davies says: "Most inaccurate figures on religion in India are those covering the ’Tribals* (or ’Animists* as they were 1 called prior to the 1931 Census).** There is considerable dove-tailing between the lower forms of Hinduism and the higher forms of tribal religion; so that, it is impossible to draw a line of demardation. -

RAMELLI CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF THE SACRED HEART, MILAN 1 ABSTRACT The Teaching of Addai is a Syriac document convincingly dated by some scholars in the fourth or fifth century AD. I agree with this dating, but I think that there may be some points containing possible historical traces that go back even to the first century AD, such as the letters exchanged by king Abgar and Tiberius. Some elements in them point to the real historical context of the reign of Abgar ‘the Black’ in the first century. The author of the Doctrina might have known the tradition of some historical letters written by Abgar and Tiberius. Introduction: A journey towards a relationship of communion between the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church and the Old Catholic Churches of the Union of Utrecht The ecumenical journey between the two churches began with the meeting of Archbishop Dr. Joris Vercammen, President of the International Bishops’ Conference of the Old Catholic Churches of the Union of Utrecht, and Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus, then Suffragan Metropolitan (now of blessed memory), of the Mar Thoma Church in the context of the World Council of Churches, in 2005. Later, Rt. Rev. Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa continued the contact with the Union of Utrecht. On the invitation of the Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church, a delegation from the Union of Utrecht, which included the Archbishop of Utrecht, 1 the bishop of the Old Catholic Church of Austria, Dr. John Okoro, the Rev. Kings, Priests and Gods on Sasanian Investiture Reliefs

KINGS, PRIESTS AND GODS ON SASANIAN INVESTITURE RELIEFS BY Bruno OVERLAET 1 (Royal Museums of Art and History, Brussels / Ghent University) Abstract: An inscription on the Naqsh-i Rustam I rock relief identifies the two protagonists in the investiture scene as Ardashir I and Ahura Mazda. All investing authorities on the royal Sasanian reliefs are therefore commonly identified as Ahura Mazda. In view of conflicting historic information and unexplained varia- tions in the iconography of “Ahura Mazda”, a re-interpretation of the investiture reliefs is made. The inscription on Ahura Mazda’s horse at Naqsh-i Rustam appears to have been added at the end of Ardashir’s reign or early in Shapur I’s reign and the earliest reliefs are now considered to depict an investiture by a priest, instead of by Ahura Mazda. Once the inscription had been added to the Naqsh-i Rustam I rock relief, it changed from an investiture by a priest to one by a god, Ahura Mazda. Iconographic details that conflicted with this transformation (such as the barsum, attendant and possibly the “royal” tamga) were left out of the divine image in later representations of the investiture on horseback. The late Sasanian Taq-i Bustan III investiture on foot, up to now considered to be the investiture of Khusrow II by Ahura Mazda and Anahita, is equally interpreted as an investiture by clergy, in this case by representatives of the cults of these two gods, rather than by the gods themselves.
