    For Immediate Release Black Eyed Peas’ Six-Stringer Picks Up A Six-Pack Of Pacificas LOS ANGELES - December 2006 -- Guitarist George Pajon, Jr., who for the past eight years has been an integral member of the multiple Grammy Award-winning, hip-hop genre-stretching Black Eyed Peas, has purchased half a dozen Pacifica microphone preamplifiers from A-Designs Audio for his El Cubano Studios in North Hollywood. In addition to being one of Black Eyed Peas’ key performing and recording musicians, Pajon is also a talented songwriter and producer that has co-written many of the group’s most popular hits – including ‘Let’s Get It Started’, ‘Where Is The Love?’, ‘Shut Up’ and ‘Don’t Phunk With My Heart’ – not to mention songs for numerous other artists like Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin and Macy Gray. Pajon’s introduction to the dual-channel, solid-state Pacifica – which sonically nods to the ’70s Quad Eight mixing console of the same name – came from recording engineer Dylan Dresdow who rents a studio at El Cubano and had been given an early prototype of the mic pre by A-Designs Audio’s Peter Montessi. “We used the Pacifica prototype and a bunch of other A-Designs stuff on my solo record, Fried Plantains, a few years ago and everybody raved about the drum tones. Even guys who were out recording in world-class studios were coming to me and saying ‘Dude, how’d you get those tones? Let me have that!’ “So after being out on the road with the Peas for quite a while, I came back into my studio to work on some projects and found that I wasn’t able to track any decent keyboard sounds – the Clav and Wurlie tones were terrible and the Rhodes sounded like a soft synth.

    “Where is the Love?” – Hosea in this New Era The song, “Where is the Love?”, is clearly a lament questioning where the love has gone in the world. The musicality and lyrics are reflective of Hosea’s prophetic message and delivery to the people of Judah. The artists, Black-Eyed Peas (with lyricist Justin Timberlake) use a hip-hop melody that expresses a sense of longing, disappointment, anguish, loss, exasperation, and sadness. But the underlying rhythm and some lyrics also suggests hope, expectation, and faith that the world will change. I chose this piece because I believe it speaks to many teenagers in a medium that they can connect with, and the message is very relevant for their age group. It challenges them to critically think about why there is suffering in the world. The Feelings The artists begin the song by reciting a litany of cases showing the problems that exist because we have not followed the Golden Rule: love thy neighbour. Some of the examples they highlight include terrorism (whether it is overseas or as the “CIA” in America), gang violence (Bloods vs. the Cripps), racism (KKK), bombs, chemical warfare, and generally, people killing and dying, and children crying. The song brings a sense of nostalgia and longing through the question of “Where”, implying a loving world once existed, for example, “It just isn't the same, always unchanged. New days are strange, is the world insane?” or through the words, “So ask yourself is the loving really gone? So I could ask myself really what is going wrong?” Coupled with nostalgia

    Cairo Knife Fight 02 June - CONCERT REVIEW Photo by Dani Bolton By Lisa Diedricks Artist: Cairo Knife Fight Date / Venue: Friday May 29th, Whammy Bar, Auckland The long weekend could not have started off with a bigger than the return of rock gods ‘Cairo Knife Fight', and release of the album, 'The Colossus'. Nick Gaffaney, front man for the band, writer and drummer leads his NZ length of the tour with award winning guitarist, writer and producer, American born, George Pajon Jr, who hold credentials such as being one of The Black Eyed Peas respected and key recording musicians and performer, co-writing many of the groups most popular and chart raising hits, and has a long list of superstars in writing that include, Sting, Kelis, Macy Grey, Damien Marley, and Carlos Santana. Cairo took the stage at Auckland's Whammy Bar on Friday 29th May, which was also the bands album release too. The gig was a sold out event and the bar was wall to wall covered in rockers, punkers and all round music lovers. As I watched the crowd, I couldn't help notice the insane consistency in everyone's head banging skills, more so, impressed that they were able to do so whilst holding the beer steadily in one hand! Cairo sure know how to get a crowd going, with constant interaction with the crowd, to playing songs that were being yelled out by the crowd, Nick and George immersed themselves into a blood sweat and tears show. Nick absolutely killed in on the drums performing a few solos in songs like ‘Rezlord' and ‘Brain Damage', while George slaying his perfection on the guitar with long intervals of whaling strings.
