R17968_Ilkley68_Ilkley Art Trail_DL Brochure.indd 1 08/08/2016 08:1708 Warm welcome to the 2016 Trail

After 2015’s highly successful Trail we had a fantastic response to our call for submissions this year and had to make the difficult decision of only selecting 65 artists. Exhibited in 25 venues, most clustered around the town centre. We are also being joined this year by the Northern Potters in venue no. 4.

We are also very excited to have taken a lease on a great studio space in Ilkley town centre. The studio will be venue no. 4 on the Trail. Do go and look at it - we are keen to make it a vibrant workshop space for everyone and anyone interested in art in Ilkley.

During the year we have developed a creative partnership with School of Art and the programme’s cover this year has been designed by Max Belli and Giada both originally from Rome who are 3rd Year Graphic Design students at the school. The School of Art are running a number of workshops in the town during the Trail so please look out for them in the programme and on the website and take advantage of all they have to offer.

We have also been working even more closely with the Ilkley Literature Festival this year and this has led to a number of joint ventures. We will post information about these exciting developments on our website so keep watching the site for updates.

There are a number of fringe events too in 2016 - art workshops for children, contemporary dance, digital soundscape and ‘Fire walk with me’ on the Moor. The website will contain all the information you need to find out about these events.

Locally well-known art collector, Ronnie Duncan, has commissioned a film by Clare Dearnaley about his stone garden. This film ‘Refuge’ together with a curated exhibition inspired by the garden from 6 local artists will be open during the Trail. More details about this exhibition are on the website.

We hope you will really love the more extensive Trail this year and find something to really lift your spirits.

By marking the land, Artist Filippa Dobson makes an ancient practice contemporary by signifying the mark-makers who first used fire as a tool. By correlating her art actions with ongoing land management activities no trace will be left in the landscape. By working with Poet Mark Pajak the resulting film projection will be counterpointed by spoken word. ‘Fire Walk with Me’ is an example of joint working by the Ilkley Art Trail with the Ilkley Literature Festival.
