Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone This is the first book in the series about Harry Potter, the book was published in 1997.
Harry Potter is a boy wizard, who grew up with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Dursley. Dudley is their unpleasant and spoiled son. Mr. and Mrs. Dursley have kept it a secret from Harry that his parents were a witch and a wizard, and that they were killed by Lord Voldemort.
Harry’s aunt and uncle treat Harry badly. He lives in a cupboard under the stairs with lots of spiders.
The summer Harry Potter turns eleven, he learns that he is no ordinary boy. He is a wizard, and he will start at Hogwarts High School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. He will go to this school for seven years, together with other wizards and witches.
Harry is picked up from the Dursley family by Rubeus Hagrid, who works at Hogwarts. He tells Harry about who Harry really is and about all the mysterious things that has happened.
Harry travels to Hogwarts with the train called Hogwarts Express, from King's Cross Station. Here he meets many of his classmates.
He quickly becomes friends with Ron Weasley, who comes from a wizarding family. At school, he also meets Hermione Granger, who is the smartest girl in the class. All three belong in the Gryffindor House at the school.
Draco Malfoy on the other hand, is one of Harry’s worst enemies. He belongs in the Slytherin house.
The principal of the school is an old gentleman named Albus Dumbledore, the world's greatest, living magician.
Harry, Ron and Hermione, come across a strictly guarded object – the Sorcerer’s Stone! Harry, Ron and Hermione go through all the obstacles that have been set up to protect the stone. Voldemort tries to get hold of the stone but fails because of Harry. By the end of the book, the school year is over, and Harry takes the train back to the Dursleys.
