424 W. Madison Street Ottawa, IL 61350 Dear Friends of YSB, If you have followed the development of YSB through these annual reports, this year will 2012 YSB Board of Directors look much different. In late May of 2011 YSB’s board of directors agreed to expand our services to include the child welfare services provided by Catholic Charities of the Rockford Ellen Anderson Kerry Bryson Barb Rutkowski Diocese, who opted to end that program effective June 30. Those decisions promised to President Vice-President Secretary double YSB’s staff and services. Dawn Trompeter Rev. Rickey Bates Sean Brannon During that month of June, my former colleague now fellow Treasurer staff member Frank Vonch, Director of Catholic Charities for Hon. James Brusatte Peter Corgiat Chris Faber Rockford Diocese, met with me and my staff on a daily basis to effect the transition of their foster care program, operating Hugo Heredia Shannon May Doug Patterson in twenty two counties in Northern Illinois, so that it was up and running under YSB effective July 1, 2011. As child welfare Tim Smith professionals for over thirty years we focused only on the three hundred plus children and their foster parents who deserved no less than a perfectly seamless transition. President Secretary/Treasurer Time was a critical factor. Administratively, YSB had many important responsibilities. The Peg Breslin Bret Duesdieker Don Duesdieker employment of 3 administrators, 7 supervisors, 39 caseworkers and 5 support staff would end June 30th. Hiring decisions had to be made quickly, leases had to be renegotiated in Ellen Fulcher Nicole Gayan Joe Nagle Rockford, Aurora and Elgin. Marketing materials and signage had to be changed, our funders and donors needed to be informed, things we never thought of popped up every day. YSB OFFICES 2012 Wait—there’s more! How the Blue Ribbon Began Child Abuse Awareness Month first began in 1983, but the blue ribbon symbolizing child abuse awareness did not appear until 1989. Bonnie Finney wanted to re- member her grandchildren and all children who have Dave McClure, Mayor Eschbach suffered from abuse. Bonnie Finney inspired the blue and Nan Butler ribbon child abuse campaign. In remembrance of her Ellen Anderson—YSB Board President —YSB Foundation Board Secretary grandson, Bonnie tied a blue ribbon to her van antenna. Kim Jaraczewski When Bonnie was asked why she chose the color blue, she said “I never intend to forget the battered, bruised bodies of my grandchildren. Bruises are black and then eventually blue. Therefore, blue serves as a constant reminder to me to fight for our children.”
