Deloney November, 1989 Comprehensive Planning Branch, Parks Division Texas Parks and Wildlife Department 4200 Smith School Road, Austin, Texas 78744 (512) 389-4900 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Conducting a mail survey requires accuracy and timeliness in every single task. Each individualized survey had to be accounted for, both going out and coming back. Each mailing had to meet a strict deadline. The authors are indebted to all the people who worked on this project. The staff of the Comprehensive Planning Branch, Parks Division, deserve special thanks. This dedicated crew signed letters, mailed, remailed, coded, and entered the data of a twenty-page questionnaire that was sent to over twenty-five thousand Texans with over twelve thousand returned completed. Many other Parks Division staff outside the branch volunteered to assist with stuffing and labeling thousands of envelopes as deadlines drew near. We thank the staff of the Information Services Section for their cooperation in providing individualized letters and labels for survey mailings. We also appreciate the dedication of the staff in the mailroom for processing up wards of seventy-five thousand pieces of mail. Lastly, we thank the staff in the print shop for their courteous assistance in reproducing the various documents. Although the above are gratefully acknowledged, they are absolved from any responsibility for any errors or omissions that may have occurred. ii TEXANS OUTDOORS: AN ANALYSIS OF 1985 PARTICIPATION IN OUTDOOR RECREATION ACTIVITIES TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction ...........................................................................................................

Box 1323 1, Austin, TX 78711 -323 1 Executive summary In October 2011, the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) entered into agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, and in November 2011, entered into agreement with the Brazos River Authority, to perform a volumetric and sedimentation survey of Granger Lake. The Brazos River Authority provided 50% of the funding for this survey, while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, provided the remaining 50% of the funding through their Texas Water Allocation Assessment Program. Surveying was performed using a multi- frequency (208 kHz, 50 kHz, and 24 kHz), sub-bottom profiling depth sounder. In addition, sediment core samples were collected in select locations and correlated with the multi-frequency depth sounder signal returns to estimate sediment accumulation thicknesses and sedimentation rates. Granger Dam and Granger Lake, formerly known as Laneport Dam and Laneport Lake, are located on the San Gabriel River in the Brazos River Basin, seven miles east of the City of Granger in Williamson County, Texas, and approximately 10 miles northeast of Taylor, Texas.

  • NAB-TOS Seasonal Report Species
Fall 2008: Central Oaks & Prairies and East Texas Pineywoods By Bert Frenz This report is reduced from 3569 sightings of 302 species from 1 August to 30 November 2008. WEATHER REPORTS: David Wolf, 14 September, Angelina-Nacogdoches-San Augustine counties, "This was the day after Hurricane Ike smashed northward and then northeastward through East Texas. I checked two sites on this date: (1) Lake Nacogdoches (about 15 miles west of Nacogdoches town in Nacogdoches County) for one hour in the late morning. The storm center passed not too far west of this small reservoir, putting it square in the "dirty" side of the storm; and (2) TX 147 causeway across middle Lake Rayburn (San Augustine County) for 1½ hours in the early afternoon. This huge reservoir is some distance east of the storm track and strongest winds, but still on the "dirty" side of it." MOST UNUSUAL SIGHTINGS: Latest ever for this East Texas area, a Black-bellied Whistling-Duck flew over Angelina 16 Oct (Robert Truss). A Long-tailed Duck was at Lake O’ the Pines in Upshur 22 Nov (David Brotherton). A first breeding record – and only the second sight record – for Fayette was a pair of Least Grebes observed incubating 11 Aug (Darrell Vollert, Willie Vollert) on a pond near Round Top. Extensive photographs were taken 16 Aug (Marsha Seyffert). Hurricanes brought an unprecedented number of Brown Pelicans far inland and many remained for months. Prior to this fall less than 10 records exist for the entire Pineywoods, so this season set new county records in East Texas and the counts in the Central Brazos Valley set new heights.

  • Commercial Fishing Full Final Report Document Printed: 11/1/2018 Document Date: January 21, 2005 2
1 ECONOMIC ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH COMMERCIAL FISHING ALONG THE TEXAS GULF COAST Joni S. Charles, PhD Contracted through the River Systems Institute Texas State University – San Marcos For the National Wildlife Federation February 2005 Commercial Fishing Full Final Report Document Printed: 11/1/2018 Document Date: January 21, 2005 2 Introduction This report focuses on estimating the economic activity specifically associated with commercial fishing in Sabine Lake/Sabine-Neches Estuary, Galveston Bay/Trinity-San Jacinto Estuary, Matagorda Bay/Lavaca-Colorado Estuary, San Antonio Bay/Guadalupe Estuary, Aransas Bay/Mission-Aransas Estuary, Corpus Christi Bay/Nueces Estuary, Baffin Bay/Upper Laguna Madre Estuary, and South Bay/Lower Laguna Madre Estuary. Each bay/estuary area will define a separate geographic region of study comprised of one or more counties. Commercial fishing, therefore, refers to bay (inshore) fishing only. The results show the ex-vessel value of finfish, shellfish and shrimp landings in each of these regions, and the impact this spending had on the economy in terms of earnings, employment and sales output. Estimates of the direct impacts associated with ex-vessel values were produced using IMPLAN, an input-output of the Texas economy developed by the Minnesota IMPLAN Group. The input data was obtained from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) (Culbertson 2004). Commercial fishing impacts are provided in terms of direct expenditure, sales output, income, and employment. These estimates are reported by category of expenditure. A description of IMPLAN is included in Appendix C. Indirect and Induced (Secondary) impacts are generated from the direct impacts calculated by IMPLAN. Indirect impacts represent purchases made by industries from their suppliers.

HOOKING MORTALITY OF LARGEMOUTH BASS CAUGHT ON CONTROVERSIAL ARTIFICIAL LURES AND LIVE BAIT - LAKE RAY ROBERTS, TEXAS THESIS Presented to the Graduate Council of the University of North Texas in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE By Andrew E. Alumbaugh, B.A. Denton, Texas May, 1996 HOOKING MORTALITY OF LARGEMOUTH BASS CAUGHT ON CONTROVERSIAL ARTIFICIAL LURES AND LIVE BAIT - LAKE RAY ROBERTS, TEXAS THESIS Presented to the Graduate Council of the University of North Texas in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE By Andrew E. Alumbaugh, B.A. Denton, Texas May, 1996 Alumbaugh, Andrew E., Hooking Mortality of Laraemouth Bass Caught On Controversial Artificial Lures and Live Bait - Lake Ray Roberts. Texas. Master of Science (Environmental Science), May 1996, 51 pp., 4 tables, 6 figures, references, 24 titles. A total of 192 largemouth bass were caught at Lake Ray Roberts, Texas (1995) to investigate five controversial bass angling techniques relative to hooking mortality. The bait types were Texas-rigged scented and non-scented plastic worms, Carolina-rigged scented and non-scented plastic worms, and live golden shiners. Overall hooking mortality was 21.87% and mortality was dependent upon bait type. Highest mortality resulted from the Texas-rigged scented lures, while the lowest mortality was generated by live golden shiners. A creel survey indicated that few anglers were having success with the investigated baits. Factors that had a confirmed effect on hooking mortality were hooking location and water temperature. Hooking mortality was not excessive compared to other similar studies.

(December 2011) Jason Ross McAlister, B.S., Texas State University Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Bradford Wilcox Sedimentation rates for many Texas reservoirs may be skewed by overstated estimates of design capacity and assumptions perpetuated through subsequent volumetric surveys. Multi-frequency reservoir surveys offer the means by which we may improve existing reservoir data and validate historic sedimentation rate estimates. To demonstrate application of this technology and value of its data derivatives, a multi-year, multi-frequency acoustic survey of Granger Lake, located in Williamson County, Texas was undertaken. Objectives of the study were to use hydro-acoustic survey techniques to verify assumptions of original reservoir capacity, examine the general accuracy of previously derived sedimentation rate, and document conservation implementation effectiveness.
