Second Summer Program Presentation Outline Presentation Second Summer Program Presentation Outline Presentation Who is your audience? Consumers and the people for whom you want to work this summer. This is your chance to really impress them! Remember, you only have 20 MINUTES to present your idea, so be organized and concise. For example: Milestone reports/Final Presentation Each team will make a final PowerPoint presentation to the class and visitors, followed by a celebration luncheon in the faculty club. A laptop projector will be available as well as a video player if needed. The presentation will have the following format: • Slide 1: Team name, student members (individual or group picture with everyone’s names so someone can tell who is who!) and TAs AND define the theme area for your team (e.g., a sports device) (Milestone 1) • Slide 2: Describe the problem you set out to solve (show the different product strategies considered) (e.g., baseball, football) (Milestone 2) • Slide 3: Show results of Rohrbach and brainstorming process, and your top selected strategy (the product area, e.g., baseball) (Milestone 2) • Slide 4: Show results of Rohrbach and brainstorming process, and your top one or two concepts (the hardware ideas, e.g., pitching, or batting machine). Ideally, each person has created a solid model of their own favorite concept, and the slide shows each persons’ solid model, as well as the final solid model of the best evolved concept (Milestone 3) • Slide 5: Show experiments or other things you did to help select the “best concept” (e.g., we are developing a human powered pitching machine) (Milestone 4) • Slide 6: Show the final concept (solid model and sketch model) (Milestone 5) • Slide 7: Show the development of the concept (analysis, sketches, models, machining the parts etc) (Milestone 6) • Slide 8: Show the finished product! (Milestone 7) • Slide 9: Show the testing of the product (Milestone 8) • Slide 10: Results (how well it worked? Cost-to-produce estimate) (Milestone 8) • Slide 11: Conclusions: Is this product worth developing for the mass market? Anything else? (Milestone 8) Your presentation doesn't have to go exactly like this, but should have most of these ideas: A. Team/Product Intro. • Group members and product. • What were your original ideas and concepts? • What problem(s) does it solve? What products does it replace/compete with? • Market Research: Who wants to buy it? B. How did you pick your final design? (design process is important) • Functional Criteria: What does it have to do? • Which criteria were important (Perhaps show how you weighed and graded them?) C. Prototypes (how did they evolve?) • Did you identify any major problems with your design. D. What was your final product? • What are its features? • Why is it better? • What will you make it out of? • Were there any variations or spin-offs (similar ideas)? • Price: What are similar items priced at in a store? Do you think you can compete? • If you still have problems, how are you gonna fix them? E. What next with your product? You may add things you think are important, but remember you only have 20 minutes! .

    Basic Baseball Fundamentals Batting Place the players in a circle with plenty of room between each player with the Command Coach in the center. Other coaches should be outside the circle observing. If someone needs additional help or correction take that individual outside the circle. When corrected have them rejoin the circle. Each player should have a bat. Batting: Stance/Knuckles/Ready/Load-up/Sqwish/Swing/Follow Thru/Release Stance: Players should be facing the instructor with their feet spread apart as wide as is comfortable, weight balanced on both feet and in a straight line with the instructor. Knuckles: Players should have the bat in both hands with the front (knocking) knuckles lined up as close as possible. Relaxed Ready: Position that the batter should be in when the pitcher is looking in for signs and is Ready to pitch. In a proper stance with the knocking knuckles lined up, hands in front of the body at armpit height and the bat resting on the shoulder. Relaxed Load-up: Position the batter takes when the pitcher starts to wind up or on the first movement after the stretch position. When the pitcher Loads-up to pitch, the batter Loads-up to hit. Shift weight to the back foot. Pivot on the front foot, which will raise the heel slightly off the ground. Hands go back and up at least to shoulder height (Hands up). By shifting the weight to the back foot, pivoting on the front foot and moving the hands back and up, it will move the batter into an attacking position.

Carolyn Taylor, MSc Sport Biomechanics Laboratory Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management University of Manitoba Softball Pitching Technique Softball pitching is the most important skill in the game of softball, as the pitcher can dominate as no other player is able to do. Softball is usually a low scoring game in which only one or two runs are scored during the entire game, often due to the dominance of a highly skilled pitcher. Pitchers require several years to perfect their technique and gain control over the speed and direction of their pitches. Softball pitchers use an underhand motion that is not as stressful to the shoulder joint as the overhand pitch used in baseball. Softball pitchers can often pitch several games in one day, and often have an extended career of many years due to the lower stress levels on the shoulder joint. A softball pitcher may pitch as many as six 7-inning games during a weekend tournament; and often the best pitcher on a college team pitches most, if not all of the games each season (Werner, Guido et al. 2005). This may result in approximately 1200-1500 pitches being thrown in a 3-day period for a windmill pitcher, as compared to 100-150 for a baseball pitcher (Werner, Guido et al. 2005). The softball pitch is a relatively simple motion, consisting of a step forward from the mound onto the foot on the non pitching arm side, weight shift onto this foot, and rotation of the shoulders and trunk to a position facing the batter.

    Cache Area Youth Baseball Bylaws Majors Age – 2018 Current Year National Federation of High School Associations (NFHS – Highschool rules will be followed with the following exemptions. 1. Divisions will draft teams in a way that creates balance of skill between teams as possible. 2. League age is the player's age on April 30th of the current playing year. 3. Home team will be determined by the schedule. 4. Each Team is to provide a new or good conditioned baseball to the ump at each game. Balls will be returned the teams. 5. Length of games will be 6 innings or 80 minutes; no new inning after 75 min. In the event of inclement weather or other prohibitive playing conditions, a game is considered a complete game after 40 min of play ending in a complete inning. Incomplete games will be rescheduled and will resume from the point where the game left off with pitchers returning to the mound to pitch at least one batter. Play to complete game. 6. Game time to be announced to both coaches by the umpire. Time begins when the home team takes the field. 7. The 10 run mercy rule is in effect after 4 completed innings of play. There is not a per inning run rule. 8. Extra Innings: Games ending in a tie will play only 1 extra inning using the International Tie Break Rule. Each team will start with a Runner on second base for each half of the inning. The runner placed at second base will be the last out of the previous inning.

No stealing, no advancement on passed balls, or over-throws, no wild pitches, and no balks. • Tagging-up on a fly ball is allowed. • Players on base may leave the base when the ball crosses the plate (no leading before the pitch crosses plate) but they may not advance to the next base until ball is hit into the field of play by batter or until forced ahead by a walk or hit batter. • No stealing but players may leave the base as ball crosses the plate. • Player leaving the base may not advance but does so at his own risk and may be picked off (and may not advance on an over-throw on the pick-off attempt). 2. Bunting is NOT allowed. 3. Infield fly rule does not apply and will NOT be called. Tagging up on a fly ball is allowed. 4. All teams will use a "Continuous Batting Order”. That is, every batter bats in turn, regardless of whether he or she is playing in the field or on the bench. Also called "Full Roster Batting". Only batters that cross the plate count as runs scored. See Rule 6 below. 5. Free substitution. Ten players (4 outfielders) Players may be moved in and out of the field positions at will, except for the pitcher. • Once removed as a pitcher, a player may NOT pitch again in that game but may play any other position in the field.

    Special Base Running Situations 1. Situation: The base runners responsibility on the hit and run Some coaches want the runner to shorten his lead and not worry about a great jump. They feel it is the batters job to make contact. Their reasoning is if the batter doesn’t put the bat on the ball the base runner is “hung out to dry”. The base runner should be conditioned that when the hit and run us on he is trying to steal the base. The only difference is after his third step he needs to take a good look at the batter to pick up the flight on the ball and make the necessary reaction. The only true exception to this is for the pitcher that has a great move to 1st base and it is difficult to steal 2nd base. In this situation the base runner breaks to 2nd only when he knows the pitcher is delivering the ball to home plate. If the base runner can’t pick up where the baseball was hit he should look directly at the 3rd base coach. The coach shouldn’t YELL at the base runner, but arm signal him what he wants him to do. For some reason many players loose there sense of hearing when they are running full speed. The coach should point back to 1st base if the ball was hit in the air and he wants him to return, arm circle signal if he wants the base runner to advance to 3rd base, or point to 2nd base if he wants the base runner to stay there.

Use this grip to keep the fastball down and get a little move movement on the pitch. 2. Slider: (Slrrrrr) This Pitch looks like a fastball coming in but can tail away or drop away from hitters. Taking a two-seam grip you will basically throw it like a fastball except slide both fingers together keeping your pointer finger right down the middle of the ball. Put pressure on the outside finger as you throw to give it that late break. 3. Change-Ups: Modified Circle & Choke (or Palm ball) Circle Change up - Grip the ball by making the O.K. sign with your thumb and index finger. Place the middle and ring finger on the seams and let the pinkie finger rest on the outside of the baseball. Use the same throwing motion that you use throwing the fastball so you don't tip off the pitch. 4. Curves: “Pop the Top” (or Spinner): There are a couple of different ways to grip the Pop the top pitch or spinner ball. Grip the ball along the seam of the "horseshoe" or 4-seam fastball grip and turn your hand to the side. Put most of the pressure on the middle finger & thumb (snapping fingers).
