Vinita Sharma Reina and her husband Miguel Reina Ortiz, are one of the new members of the Tampalese Nepali family.

Recently both of them visited Ecuador, where they organized con- ferences on HIV/AIDS and tropical diseases in the Catholic Universi- ty and Vargas Torres University in the province of Esmeraldas and a high school in Montalba. The conferences were widely covered by the local news media and very well received by the students, public and local authorities. They were also a part of the organizing team of the 5 days international workshop cum conference held in the capital city, Quito, on 'The use of GIS and remote sensing for health' organized jointly by the University of South Florida, Tampa and University of San Francisco de Quito.

Their efforts were applauded by the national health authorities in Ecuador.

5 SOCIAL INDRENI Bhansa ghar Nepali Soup of Peas " Chhole"

Ingredients:

 1 cup dry peas  ½ teaspoonful cumin powder  ¼ bunch cut fresh cilantro  ½ cup cut fresh tomato  1 tea spoonful salt  ½ teaspoonful zinger powder  ½ teaspoonful garlic powder  Crockpot or slow cooker

Directions:

1. Put one cup of dry peas on the Crockpot add 5 cups of water and 1/2 teaspoonful of salt. 2. Turn the Crockpot on to high heat and cook for 5 hours. 3. Add half cup of cut tomato (fresh), ½ teaspoonful of cumin, garlic, and zinger powder. 4. Stir with spatula and cook it for 5 more minutes and add cilantro. 5. The soup is ready to serve. Add salt and pepper to your taste. (If you like squeeze a fresh lemon juice few drops on your bowl). 6. Turn crockpot knob to warm if not serving immediately.
