THEMATIC INTERVENTIONS Coordination:  Conducted regular COVID-19 response coordination meeting with partners and stakeholders  SMOH and WHO supported state and LGA level implementation of COVID-19 response activities.

Surveillance and Epidemiology:  The case fatality rate amongst confirmed cases is 11.9%  The percentage of confirmed cases amongst the health care workers is 20%.  Sixty-seven (67) of the five hundred and forty (543) samples tested positive giving a positivity rate of 12.3%.  The case to contact ratio is 1:10.  The percentage of LGAs that reported at least one confirmed case in the state is 76.1%.

Point of Entry (POE):  Conducted screening of passengers at Potiskum, Bade, Geidam, and Nguru LGA POEs.

Case Management:  No COVID-19 related mortality was recorded in the past 12 weeks  All confirmed cases have been discharged from the isolation center

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):  Continued decontamination of high-risk areas across the state  YSPHCMB, with support from AVADAR community informants, conducted mass sensitization on COVID-19 prevention in high-burden LGAs.

Laboratory and Diagnostic Support:  Three (3) samples were collected and transported to the laboratory  The total number of samples collected is five hundred and forty-three (543). Sixty-seven (67) results are positive, four hundred and twelve (412) are negative, forty-one (41) for a repeat test and the results of twenty-three (23) remaining samples are pending.  Following-up with the laboratory to retrieve results of pending samples.

Risk Communication and Social Mobilization:  The SPHCMB, with support from the WHO communication teams, conducted mass community sensitization on COVID-19 prevention in high-burden LGAs  Conducted house-to-house community sensitization by VCMs and WHO HTR teams  The SMOH, in collaboration with WHO communication teams and CGPP, conducted a mass campaign on COVID-19 prevention in high-burden LGAs

Logistics and Operational Support:  Distributed additional PPEs and IEC materials to risks communication and surveillance teams.

CHALLENGES:  Inadequate sample collection stemming from fear and stigmatization  Inadequate COVID-19 testing kits in the state. COVID-19 samples are being transported to the neighboring state for testing  Bad geographical terrain and flood water are limiting access to remote communities to sustain COVID- 19 prevention activities  Insecurity and military operations are limiting contact tracing, active case search, and community sensitization in security-compromised LGAs

NEXT STEP(S):  To follow-up to ensure the release of the World Bank/NCDC grant to the state government  Conduct training of community-based groups to strengthen community ownership and participation in COVID-19 response in remote LGAs  Scale-up active case search and sample collection in remote communities  Procure and distribute additional PPEs to health facilities and isolation centers  Continue COVID-19 samples transportation to the Maiduguri laboratory before the procurement of additional testing kits for the Yobe Molecular Diagnostic laboratory.
