- 1 -  Application for Admission

1. Application Qualification

If the applicant fits one of the following conditions, he / she is entitled to apply as an international student: (1) International students refer to those whose nationality are not and have never been Republic of China (Refer to Note 1) and those who do not possess overseas compatriot status. (2) International students refer to those whose nationality is not Republic of China, those who have resided in another country for more than 6 years (Refer to Note 2-3), and those who meet the following conditions.  Have dual nationality and have never applied for household registration in Taiwan.  Have held Republic of China citizenship and renounced it for at least 8 years (till February 1st, 2014).  Possess Overseas Compatriot student status or had previously applied to colleges/universities with this status in Taiwan. (3) According to the Education Cooperation Framework Agreement, a foreign national who was selected by a foreign government, organization, or school, and does not hold a household registration record from the time of his/her birth is not subject to the limitations as prescribed in the preceding two paragraphs after receiving approval from the authorized educational government agencies. (4) International students who have not graduated from a Taiwan High School may apply (with the exception of Overseas Compatriot high schools and Taiwan affiliated high schools that lessons in dual languages). (5) Have never been dismissed from any Taiwan institutes due to poor moral conduct, poor academic standing, or committed any crimes. (6) An applicant of foreign nationality, concurrently holding a permanent residence status in Hong Kong or Macao, having no history of a household registration record in Taiwan and, at the time of application, having resided in Hong Kong, Macao, or another foreign country for no less than 6 years is eligible to apply for admission under these regulations.

★Applicants who are found to have violated any of the aforesaid requirements shall be disqualified, deprived of enrollment status, or the diploma received be revoked. First Tech reserves the right not to issue any certificate to such students. Note: *1. According to Article 2, the Law of Nationality of Republic of China, a person shall have the nationality of the Republic of China under any of the conditions provided by the following subparagraphs: (a) His/Her father or mother was a national of the Republic of China when he/she was born (b) He/She was born after the death of his/her father or mother, and his/her father or mother was a national of the Republic of China at the time of death (c) He/She was born in the territory of the Republic of China, and his/her parents can't be ascertained or both were stateless persons. (d) He/She has undergone the naturalization process. Preceding subparagraph 1 and subparagraph 2 shall also apply to the persons who were minors at the time of the revision and promulgation of this Act. *2.The ending dates of the six-year and eight-year time periods are counted based on the duration until February 1st 2014. *3. Overseas status excludes those of Mainland China, Macao and Hong Kong, and foreign residents who have not stayed for a period of 120 days or more in Taiwan during any single calendar year of the minimum six-year residence period in a foreign country. 2. International students with a high school diploma are eligible to apply for four-year undergraduate - 2 - programs; students with a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply for graduate studies in Master’s programs; and students with a Master’s degree are eligible to apply for graduate studies in Ph.D. programs at First Tech.

3. If the applicant’s HIV test result is positive, First Tech will notify the government authorities according to “HIV Infection Control and Patient Rights Protection Act”.

4. There is no application fee for international students. However, applicants are required to submit the completed application forms with the required documents to the Office of International Affairs of First Tech by Apr. 30th, 2015. Late submissions will not be considered for fall semester 2015 admission. (The application forms can also be downloaded from the following website: http://www.oia.nkfust.edu.tw/files/11-1083-7022.php) All of the following items should be submitted at the same time as your application packet.

(1) Two completed application forms (2) Photocopied Certificate of Nationality (passport, residence certificate or birth certificate). (3) Academic credentials: a. Academic credentials from Mainland China: The Regulations Governing the Accreditation of Schools in Mainland China shall apply. b. Academic credentials from Hong Kong or Macao: Academic Credential Verification and Accreditation Methods adopted in Hong Kong and Macao shall apply. c. Academic credentials from other areas: (a) Photocopied Certificate of Current Highest-Level Diploma and Original Transcript (A copy of Chinese or English translation shall be submitted if in a language other than Chinese or English). These must be authenticated by the ROC embassy, consulate office, or Economic & Culture Office of the country in which the applicant resides (Refer to Note 4). (b) Applicants who are graduating students without the proper diploma certificates at the time of application should provide upon enrollment the official diploma certificates for verification. Applicants should provide High School Diploma for undergraduate studies, Bachelor’s degree diploma for graduate studies, and Master’s degree diploma for doctoral studies. (c) Once admitted, students must provide original copies of diploma certificates for review upon registration. (d) Translations of Certified copies of Diploma Certificates MUST be authenticated by the school from which students graduated and by the ROC embassy, consulate office, or Taipei Economic & Culture Office of the country in which the student resides. NOTE: *4. “ROC representative offices abroad” refers to ROC embassies, consulates, representative offices, trade offices, or other agencies authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of ROC

d.One Official Transcripts (a) These must be authenticated by the school from which students graduated and by the ROC embassy, consulate office, or Taipei Economic & Culture Office of the country in which the student resides. In addition, the transcript must bear the official seal of the institute issuing the transcript. (b) Applicants for Ph.D. programs should include undergraduate course transcripts. e. One financial statement issued by a bank. (a) Students must provide a bank statement showing a minimum of NT$ 200,000 (USD$ 7,000) in deposit. (b) Students with support from a funding agency must provide relevant documents of

- 3 - proof. (c) If the account name stated in the bank statement is not the applicant himself/herself, a letter of declaration written by the particular sponsor is required. The sponsor concerned has to state in the letter his/her relationship with the applicant, as well as making an assurance to support the applicant for all his/her expenses during the entire period of study in Taiwan. f. The Certificate of Nationality Renouncement of Republic of China is required for applicants who have once held Republic of China citizenship. The date of renouncement must be longer than 8 years prior to school start date. g. Other materials required by specific departments/institutes. * Incomplete application packets will not be considered.

- 13 - Other Admission Information

1. Each academic year begins on August 1st and ends on July 31st of the following year. The first semester usually begins in mid- or late-September, and the second semester begins in late February of the following year.

2. International students may apply for scholarships for the first semester while applying for admission. They may apply for scholarships for the subsequent semester at the end of every semester. ★First Tech Scholarship: (1) Tuition Waiver (2) Living Expense Stipend: The amount may vary every year. 3. First Tech will hold a Chinese Proficiency Test for all new international students right after school starts. New students will be assigned to the appropriate level of Chinese course according to the test results. 4. The following tuition rates apply only to the 2014 academic year. (Rates are subject to change thereafter.) (1)

(2) On-campus Dormitory: All degree program international students can choose to stay in on-campus dorms. Each room with a half bathroom can accommodate 4 students. Dorm staffs offer round-the-clock assistance. A variety of facilities such as Internet access, cafeterias, laundry machines, reading rooms, grocery shops, and recreation rooms are available. Leisure and recreation facilities include a track and field stadium, a baseball filed, an indoor swimming pool and a gym.
