The Newsletter is produced by Kemnay & District Community Association for and by the people of Kemnay. It is distributed each month to approximately 2250 homes in and around Kemnay. If you would like anything included please note that the closing date for both articles and advertisements is 9am on the 23rd of the month. All inclusions to: Kemnay Newsletter, Kemnay Village Hall, 8 Aquithie Road, Kemnay AB51 5SS (The letterbox for the Village Hall is located half way down the right hand side of the Hall). Tel 01467 641120 (leave a message on answer phone) or email your inclusion to: [email protected] or [email protected] Once again we ask all organisers of events in Kemnay & District to give details for publication in the newsletter. If you have any queries about delivery, please ring 01467 642167 or email It is much better if events do not clash, for in a small community such as ours, these clashes can result in [email protected] divided loyalties and maybe a lower financial return for those who are raising funds for charity or their clubs expenditure. 1 SAILING ON A stone near to the side of the church bears the inscription: IN MEMORIAM ALEXANDER FINDLAY BRIDGEND KEMNAY WHO DIED 11 TH JAN 1878 AGED 84 YEARS ALSO HARRIET FINDLAY DIED 1 ST MARCH 1877 AGED 17 DAYS HARRIET BATES WIFE OF W FINDLAY DIED AUG 17 1882 AGED 32 YEARS ALSO THEIR DAUGHTER LIZZIE JANE DIED NOV 8 1882 AGED 4½ YEARS JANET WHITE WIFE OF A FINDLAY DIED APRIL 16 1885 AGED 88 YEARS ALICE DIED JUNE 15 1898 WM FINDLAY DIED JAN 26 1904. Bridgend, as a name only came into existence following the erection of the first bridge over the Don at Kemnay and is still in existence as the name of the block of flats now on the site. Prior to the building of the bridge, the holding was called 'Boat of Kemnay' a name still commemorated in 'Boat Pass Plus Registered Croft' which was part of the Boat Croft and was built in the 1980s, it is also Tel: 01464 861099 mentioned as 'Cobleseat' in some sources. Mob: 07843 230416 Before the bridge was built there were two methods of crossing the river – one was by Garmonend Ford fully a quarter of a mile downstream from the bridge, and the other was by boat which was operated by the ferryman who was tenant of the holding referred to above. Alexander Findlay was already staying there in 1841 and in the 1851 census he is referred to as 'farmer of 12 acres and ferryman'. There is every chance that Alexander Findlay was a native of the parish as he was staying 'in this parish' when he was married to Janet White on 29 th May 1825 at Daviot – where Janet lived. Harriet Bates was born in Dublin of English parents and the first that she is recorded in this area is the 1871 census where she is listed as a nurse to Mrs Barbara Fyfe (wife of the quarrymaster) at Fairview. She died at 2 High Come Along to Kemnay Church Centre Street, Old Aberdeen, her father's residence, on August 17 1882 aged 32 Every Tues. & Thurs. from 9.30 – 11.30 a.m. years. I have noted on several occasions dog walkers allowing their dogs to foul on the grass outside my house. This has been happening on a regular basis on Bridge Road, Kemnay.

Any help to alleviate this would be much appreciated.

I have also spoken to neighbours who agree that something should be done about this problem.

It bemuses me as to how a 'responsible' dog owner could not clean up after their pets especially given that there is a bin (in this situation) literally a 5 second walk away.

Another note I would make is that (for me personally) I will be putting up CCTV in strategically placed positions to catch the culprit. I suspect a warning to the culprit may work to a certain extent and if I catch them doing this again I will be forwarding the footage onto the council as this act is in fact illegal which carries financial penalties through The Dog Fouling (Scotland) Act 2003. If the fine remains unpaid , the offender can then be reported to the Procurator Fiscal CA
