“It’s such a peaceful and idyllic setting”

Labour of Love Having purchased the plot in the village of Longham, the owners started construction in April 1993 and had completed their new property and moved into it by November 1994. They are quite rightly proud of what they’ve accomplished. “It was a labour of love which continually evolved over that time with the help of our architect and local builder, and no expense was spared in design or materials. We used all handmade bricks, clay roof pantiles and even commissioned a bespoke designed black wrought iron gate.” The kitchen, study, main bedroom, dressing room and en-suite bathroom were designed by a local -based company, and hardwood was employed for the wooden doors throughout the property and also for the bespoke staircase, all of which were designed and crafted by a local master carpenter.

Designed to be their ideal family home, the owners’ favourite rooms are the large kitchen and family room as these hold the most memories for them and are still the most used today. During their time at the property, the owners have continued to update and improve a number of the rooms, but they haven’t had to do anything very significant “as the house was pretty much built to how we lived our lives,” adding that it also “lends itself to small or large parties and occasions, and we have had many over the years.” “This home is a true one-off and really needs a family now who can continue to love it as much as we have done.”

Garden Oasis The owners had the garden professionally landscaped when the house was first built, and it has been a wonderful setting for numerous parties for their children and has even served as a football pitch in its time. In more recent years they have kept the garden laid to lawn and ensured that it is well stocked with shrubs and annuals in order to encourage birds and wildlife into it. Because of the adjoining fields and woods, it’s not just the usual varieties of garden and field birds that frequent it, but great spotted woodpeckers often are seen there, and also badgers, deer and many pheasant families.

Out and About The owners are effusive in their praise for their village. “We have a local village pub called The White Horse which is well used and loved.” Their children attended the primary and senior schools in nearby , which is also where their local medical practice is located. They also singled out their local garden centre in for praise, which they referred to as a treasured secret, and mentioned that nearby as a wonderful place to visit, and also with its newly renovated Brisley Bell pub. The property is well situated for Kings Lynn and Norwich for shopping and further amenities, and the owners remarked that “The Norfolk coast and all the Burnhams are literally less than an hour away in any direction”.

“This is a truly magical setting in a beautiful part of Norfolk. It is incredibly peaceful and quiet, and you can hear a pin drop most days.”
