The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my tongue." 2 Samuel 23:1-2. Fortified with such a testimony, we may accept without hesitation the Twenty-third of this "Hymn Book for all times" as not only a divine, but as the divinest, richest, and most musical of all the songs which breathed from David's www.biblesnet.com www.biblesnet.com - Online Christian Library inspired harp; and to which, by the consent of the universal Church, the palm of distinction has been awarded. No individual, competent to form a judgment in the matter, and possessing any pretension to a taste for that which is pastoral in composition- rich in imagery- tender in pathos- and sublime in revelation- will fail to study this Psalm without the profoundest instruction and the most exquisite delight. Its melodies- divine and entrancing, and which may well suggest the expressive title we have ventured to give it- have echoed through all ages of the Christian Church- instructing more minds, soothing more hearts, quelling more fears, and inspiring more hopes- than, perhaps, any other composition in any language, or of any age.

To interrupt His Yellow Plan The Sun does not allow Caprices of the Atmosphere – And even when the Snow Heaves Balls of Specks, like Vicious Boy Directly in His Eye – Does not so much as turn His Head Busy with Majesty – ‘Tis His to stimulate the Earth And magnetize the Sea - And bind Astronomy, in place, Yet Any passing by Would deem Ourselves – the busier As the Minutest Bee That rides – emits a Thunder – A Bomb – to justify Emily Dickinson (poem 224. c. 1862) Since people are by nature poorly equipped to register any but short-term changes, it is not surprising that we fail to notice slower changes in either climate or the sun. John A. Eddy, The New Solar Physics (1977-78) Foreword By E. N. Parker In this time of global warming we are impelled by both the anticipated dire consequences and by scientific curiosity to investigate the factors that drive the climate. Climate has fluctuated strongly and abruptly in the past, with ice ages and interglacial warming as the long term extremes. Historical research in the last decades has shown short term climatic transients to be a frequent occurrence, often imposing disastrous hardship on the afflicted human populations.

In this course, we'll consider what's different about a story told on a page versus on a computer screen, with possibilities for multimedia interactions. To help us answer this question, we begin with a consideration of fairy tales and their many variations, then move to an examination of nineteenth-century fiction and contemporary hypertext "revisions." Along the way, you'll have the chance to craft your own hypertext fairy tale and collaborate on a group hypertext project. Why Victorian literature? Because the nineteenth century witnessed the flowering of narrative fiction and an emphasis on plot. Reading Victorian literature alongside contemporary hypertext will allow you to consider what it means to read for the plot and to perform acts of interpretation. Course Objectives As an offering for the Honors program in support of the liberal arts mission of the College and as a literature course, HON 206 seeks to foster students' ability to engage in critical analysis, demonstrate technical competency, write and speak with competence, evince familiarity with historical and contemporary trends in literature, and express their creativity and appreciate the creative activities of others.
