Seminar at HQ with TV Producer Enaam Mohammed Ali titled “ Cultural Enlightenment in Egyptian Drama “. • 2- Sept.. Seminar at HQ with TV Producer Mohammed Fadel titled “ Drama & its Effects on National Security “. • 3- Nov.. Participating in the 2nd Cycle of “ The Role of Cultural NGOs in the Development of Societies “ held at the Cultural Palace in Cairo. • 4- Dec. 25th.. Members attending the Famous Play “ One Night From One Thousand Nights “ performed at the Egyptian National Theatre starring our Famous Actor Yehia El-Fakharany. • 2016 • 1- Jan.. Honouring our famous Egyptian Actress Ragaa El-Gedawy at HQ. • 2- March.. Cultural & Social Seminar titled “ Financial Difficulties Facing NGOs in Egypt “ held at Cairo’s Yacht Club. • 3- April.. Seminar titled “Saving Agricultural Products from Pollution “ held at Cairo’s Yacht Club. • 4- Wednesday 22nd of June.. Our Annual Ramadan Iftar Celebration which will be held at Al-Ahli Sporting Club. EAGW –Alexandria 2013 – 2016 (I) Iqraa (Read) Initiative EAGW - Alexandria members partnered with the Egyptian Association for the Friends of Bibliotheca Alexandrina (EAFBA) in their successful reading project “Iqraa”. The project started in October 2012 and continued throughout 2013. EAGW - Alexandria members organized events and collected donated books to be distributed for free ; aiming at using “Reading” as an effective and reliable means of empowering women through knowledge. An Idea for A Book EAGW - Alexandria member, Dr. Eman Karmouty (Professor of English Literature, English Department, Faculty of Education, Alexandria University and the then Head of the Department) organized a book fair in her work place. Students, as well as staff, donated books to be circulated among themselves in exchange for ideas (the price for each book was an innovative idea to be discussed and further implemented. Inspired by “Let’s Read Together” Inspired by the Finnish Presentation at the 31st GWI Triennial Conference, EAGW – Alexandria members Sahar Gamal, Haidy Ibrahim and Hoda ElMenawy (the then Coordinator of Women and Young Girls Activities in the Ministry of Youth Alexandria) participated in the Annual Women’s Clubs Products Fair organized by the Ministry of Youth. The books donated by them were all intended to serve the needs and interests of Egyptian women, as well as encouraging young girls to be more interested in Science. The Grand Finale At the end of the 14 months partnership with the EAFBA, EAGW -Alexandria member, Dr. Salha Awwad donated her own specialized library to Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Dr. Awwad has always been one of the esteemed senior members of EAGW - Alexandria, and the Alexandrian NGO community as a whole, with a life long experience in the field of gender-related activities; with a special focus on “Reproductive Health” and “Family Planning”. Her counseling in such matters is highly appreciated in the National Council For Women (NCFW), the Ministry of Solidarity and Social Affairs and other concerned organizations. (II) Increasing the Visibility of EAGW and GWI Members of the Egyptian Association for Graduate Women (EAGW-Alexandria) in cooperation with the Faculty of Agriculture – Saba Basha (Alexandria University) invited members of EAGW and their potential members to attend "Introduction to IFUW" webinar on 14 April 2015. This webinar was followed by a tea party for EAGW members to share their feedback. (III) New Board, New Spirit The new executive board of EAGW – Alexandria attended an intensive course organized by the Regional Federation of Non Governmental Associations and Foundations in Alexandria. The course was intended to train executive boards to run NGOs in Egypt in accordance with the Egyptian Constitution and Laws. The course also covered networking and fund raising. (IV) Entrepreneurs At Ramadan’s Iftar The new board of EAGW – Alexandria decided to help female entrepreneurs in Alexandria by organizing a number of fairs to introduce them and their products to the Alexandrian community. The first fair was organized during Ramadan’s Iftar and is intended to be the first of a series of regular events. (V) Raising Awareness Campaign EAGW – Alexandria is currently organizing a one-year campaign to raise awareness of the different forms of violence against women, their negative impacts and how they are addressed legally in Egypt. The campaign will start in July 2016 and EAGW – Alexandria is in the process of signing a number of MOUs with the concerned organizations and institutions.
