International teams FAQ

Q1: Teammates specializing in which technical field are suggested? And how many people are needed for each field?

1. People in following technical area are needed

Hardware/Circuit field:

Main task: Circuit design, PCB layout, SMT, circuit test and wiring.

RoboMaster development board can fit most of the circuit requirement, such as voltage transformation, CAN, IMU and RC receiver circuit.

Mechanical Field:

Main task: Robot structure and mechanism design.

Include:

1. Shooting mechanism, which is a very important part of RoboMaster competition. It may also have a gimbal structure to stabilize the shooting part. 2. Robot chassis: For example, the landing chassis, caterpillar tread and telescoping mechanism for hero robot and the damping chassis of standard .

3. Robot transformation mechanism: For example, the gripper of engineer robot, the bullets collector of hero robot and aerial robot.

2. Number of people needed in each group

Hardware group: around 3 teammates with hardware circuit design experience

Mechanical group: Mechanical group is the base and core of the whole team, which needs around 6 teammates.

Control group: around 2 teammates in charge of control algorithm and around 3 teammate in charge of hardware drive.

Algorithm group: around 3 teammates in charge of image processing algorithm and aerial robot operation

Q2: How much time should be taken for the competition preparation? How to ensure the processing of preparation?

1. According to the schedule for RoboMaster 2018, it is better to prepare the competition using 5 months or longer.

2. Generally speaking, in order to control the progress of competition preparation: 1st month: regulation of the RoboMaster competition 2018 should be read to finalize the design and details for robots, and have the mechanical drawings done in the first month.

2nd month: components of robots will be processed and assembled for production of the first version of robots.

3rd month: final touch-up of robots, figuring out underlying problems with solution plan. second version robots will be in processing with improved mechanical drawings support.

4th month: have the updated version of robots assembled, wiring and embedded system debugging

5th month and so on: Fix bugs on robots. Train robot operators. Let crew members get familiar with tactics formulated by team.

Q3: What kinds of materials are needed as basic equipment? Can they be purchased from official ways? Or be bought from other ways?

1. Official materials:

Remote controller, RC receiver, gimbal motors, mecanum wheels, laser, other motors can be purchased from organizing committee after successful application of participation in RoboMaster.

2. Other materials

Materials like camera, pneumatic, infrared sensor, etc. can be bought from Amazon

Q4: What is the budget for the entire competition? (Materials and travel cost are included)

1. For materials cost, ¥100,000 -- ¥150,000 is affordable. We assumed each robot will cost ¥10,000 -- ¥20,000.

2. For traveling, with reference of traveling supporting plan given by DJI.

Q5: What are supporting plan included? (Materials and traveling cost)

1. Material:

2 prototype standard robots and 1500 dollars of goods available online are as gift to the new team. For old teams, gift valued 1500 dollars will be given as support.

Free shipping with all purchased DJI items, no sale tax.

Maximum 5 gift packs for sponsors and instructors will be provided.

2. Travelling

International travel reimbursement fully covers up to 6 team members.

Reimbursed transportation expenses during stay in (together up to ¥3000).

Free lodging at college dormitories.

3. Others

DJI coordinators and technical support personnel provided.

Extra inspection time before each game. Warm up games before the competition.

Internship opportunities at DJI.

International networking event. Field trip to technology companies in Shenzhen after the competition.

Q8: How to get funding?

You team may have a promotion officer dedicates to promote the team and reach out to look for potential sponsors for funding.

1. The most common approach is to turn to school for financial aid;

2. Look for sponsors for cash or equipment, and the treatments could include the followings: Become one of the title sponsors of our team;

Show the company's name and logo on the robots and Team uniforms;

Give them souvenirs.

3. You can use online view statistics (especially on : https://go.twitch.tv/robomaster) to convince potential sponsors that this competition is very helpful for them to promote their companies.

Q9: How to join us?

1. Register at: https://www.robomaster.com/en-US/user/login (Must be done during 25th Sep. 2017- 20th Nov. 2017), please fill out the form and submit required materials.

2. The competition is divided into several preparation stages by milestones: Registration - Rule evaluation (Optional) - Session planning (Optional) - Design Report Submission - Demonstration video submission - Referee System Assessment (Optional) - International Regional Competition – Wild-card Competition – Final Tournament. Team have to complete the design report and the demonstration video in order to acquire the qualification to attend international regional competition and receive the referee system and material supports (The referee system is only provided as a rental item so that a rent contract should be signed).

3. After the official assessment of registration, the team will get a unique registration number. This will be the proof to buy competition materials. (The registration number should only be known to teammates)

4. Plan the competition preparation work thoroughly in advance. Adjust the plan according to different stages in preparation period. The design report and video of completed robots’ structure are critical proof to get qualification to international regional competition and final tournament. Please make sure to pay attention that they are submitted on time and are consistent with the fact. The exact date of milestones of RM2018 is subject to the latest game rules and related announcement released by organizing committee.
