Dinner at Corton with Chateau Troplong Mondot Dinner at Corton with Chateau Troplong Mondot Dear Member: It is my pleasure as Event Chair to welcome members and guests to celebrate the wines of the right bank Château Troplong Mondot and join me on Tuesday, January 15 at the extraordinary Corton with Chef Paul Liebrandt performing his culinary magic. The W&FSNY will enjoy the entire restaurant for our Champagne reception and five course dinner as we drink Château Troplong Mondot vintages: 1998, 2000, 2004, 2006 and for our fifth course, our dessert, the legendary 1979 Château d’ Yquem. Myriam Ruer, from the Chateau, will join us from France. Named for the largest area of Grand Cru in Burgundy, Corton is a Michelin two-star restaurant located in the heart of Tribeca. Corton is the partnership between renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent (Nobu, Tribeca Grill), and chef Paul Liebrandt. Chef Liebrandt’s modern French menu melds the tradition of classical cuisine with a contemporary approach to ingredients and technique. The flavors are clean, precise and intense. Esquire declared Chef Liebrandt the chef most likely to change the way we eat in the twenty-first century. Corton, which was previously occupied for more than 20 years by the well-respected Montrachet, reflects a light and intimate style. The serene dining room features vine and leaf embossed walls, vaulted ceilings, natural-toned chairs and inviting banquettes. Château Troplong Mondot's 33 hectares make it one of the "biggest" Saint-Emilion estates. To the south-east of the plateau overlooking the town, its vineyard covers the steep hillside and extends south all the way to the borderline with the Pavie domain. The exposure is outstanding with perfect conditions for natural drainage for this Bordeaux blended with 90 % Merlot; 5% Cabernet Franc; and 5%Cabernet Sauvignon. In the 17th century, the vineyard belonged to the Abbé Raymond de Sèze, who, in 1745, built the chateau as it stands today. The Sèze family was one of the most prestigious of the Bordeaux area's landed gentry and owned many other estates. It was particularly illustrious in providing Louis XVI with his personal lawyer, Raymond de Sèze. Under the aegis of the Abbé, Mondot won its place among the best Saint Emilion wines. In 1850, Raymond Troplong took over Mondot and turned it into the 33-hectares estate, unchanged to this very day operating the rich Mondot estate with remarkable success, producing a highly prized wine classed by the renowned Annuaire des Châteaux de Féret as Saint- Emilion's second finest wine in 1868. Edouard Troplong, his nephew and successor, added the name Troplong to the estate before he sold to Alexandre Valette, a Parisian vintner. He already owned Château La France in Fronsac and would soon acquire Château Pavie. In 1980, Alexandre’s great grand daughter, Christine, took over the estate and was joined, 10 years later, by her husband, Xavier Pariente. Together they continued to improve and embellish the vineyard, cellar and chateau. This hard work and their efforts proved worthwhile when in 2006 Troplong Mondot was awarded 1 er Grand Cru Classé status. Our evening will begin with a Champagne reception with exquisitely prepared hors d’oeuvres The Menu will be posted online in December. We extend our thanks to Drew Nieporent and Chef Paul Liebrandt and express our appreciation to the Pariente family and Château Troplong Mondot for their generous support and to Myriam Ruer for her involvement. The attendance is limited to 60 and this evening is likely to be quite popular. Please make your reservations early at www.wfsny.org for this. Sincerely, Gregory Hurst, President Date: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 Time: Reception at 6:30; Dinner at 7:15 Location: Corton, 239 West Broadway (between Walker and White Streets, South of Beech Street Park) Contribution: Member: $250 – Guest: $265 Dress: Business attire THE WINE & FOOD SOCIETY, INC., NEW YORK Meeting #1161 Tuesday, January 15, 2013 Dinner at Corton with Chateau Troplong Mondot Please reserve ____ place(s) for the Dinner at Corton with Chateau Troplong Mondot.
