GREETINGS

I am pleased to share that we have hired a new Business manager for our parish. Mary Gisler will officially join our team on March 2nd. Mary has been the Parish manager at St. Theresa Parish for the past ten years. Mary brings an excellent skill set and I believe she will be a good fit for Holy Trinity. Welcome Mary! We will also bid farewell to Regina Montgomery. Regina has been our business manager for 12 years and has done an excellent job! She will be missed.

A note about some additional activities for Lent. For the season of Lent, we will have an additional weekday Mass on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm. We will also have Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 5:30pm. Finally, looking ahead, the 2020 Annual Diocesan Appeal will officially kick off March 7-8. You will receive a letter from our bishop in advance of that date. I ask that we all begin considering what we will be able to do in support of our parish and diocese. Thank you in advance for your generous support!

Have a good week.

“Love your enemies and

pray for those who

persecute you.”

Matthew 5:38-48

HEALING PRAYER SERVICE WTH FATHER UBALD Fr. Ubald was ordained a Catholic priest in the Cyangugu Diocese of Rwanda in 1984. During the 1994 Rwanda genocide, Fr. Ubald lost 80 members of his family and 45,000 parishioners. After the genocide he began preaching healing, forgiveness and reconciliation throughout the country. He not only preaches forgiveness, he is a living example of its healing powers – forgiving the man who killed his family and even adopting that man’s children when there was no one to care for them. Through the grace of God, Fr. Ubald has been given a unique gift of healing. He communicates the living power of Jesus’s healing wherever he preaches. Join us for a Mass with Healing Prayer while Fr. Ubald’s in the Des Moines area in March.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER Question for Children: What can you do at home or at school to show that you follow Jesus’ Commandments? Question for Youth: Do you think Jesus was serious when he said to love your enemies? Why or why not? Question for Adults: Have you ever told someone to do something for his/her own well being? Do you accept God’s laws in the same spirit of love and concern?

SAINT OF THE WEEK , Cardinal and Doctor, 1001-1072 Peter was an excellent student and went on to become a noted professor. Yet this was not the life which Peter wanted to lead. Even while teaching, he practiced austerities; it is said he fed the poor from his table on a regular basis. As Peter was contemplating giving up his position for the monastic life, two of the order of Saint Benedict happened to call at his house. Discussion with them decided it for Peter. In 1035, he joined their hermitage at Fonte Avellana and resolved to spend the remainder of his life as a humble , praying, studying Scripture, and living a life of great austerity. Around the year 1043, Peter became abbot of Fonte Avellana. Not only did he govern with great wisdom and piety, but Peter founded five other and appointed the priors who led their communities under Peter’s general direction. In 1057, Pope Stephen II prevailed upon Peter to leave his hermitage and appointed him cardinal-bishop of Ostia. In this see, he began a program of ecclesiastical reform. While severe with the clergy, Peter could treat penitents with kindness and mildness. This was not the life that Peter contemplated. He constantly sought from Stephen’s successors permission to resign this office and return to his monastic life. Pope Alexander II was finally persuaded to allow Peter to resign on the condition that he be available if his help were needed. Peter considered this papal consent to not only relieve him from the responsibility of governing his see, but also from the governance of his religious settlements. He thus returned to the life of a simple monk. In his retirement, Peter set an example of piety, humility and penitence. He also used this period to write extensively, continuing to push for ecclesiastical reform. He often called upon monks to strictly observe their vows and denounced simony, which is the practice of paying for ecclesiastical favors. Peter also wrote on the sacraments of penance and Eucharist, as well as other theological and religious topics. Many of his letters exist today. Peter's message today: Peter, though a brilliant man, sought a simple life of prayer and penance. Yet when God called him to undertake a different mission, Peter said yes. We too are sometimes called upon to step out of our “comfort zones” to respond to a call for a particular purpose in God’s plan.

What are you doing to prepare yourself to respond to God’s call? If your pastor asked you to lead a parish ministry, for example, what would your answer be?
