Pro Players Foundation fosters the growth and development of disadvantaged children in North Texas through sports-based programs

The Pro Players Foundation is a group of professional athletes and business and community leaders who volunteer their time and talents to assist disadvantaged youth. With the mission of “Enriching the Lives of Children,” PPF partners with teams through a variety of initiatives to help make sure every child has the ability to succeed and the opportunity for a bright future.

Current PPF programs and projects include:

Instant RePlay: An “Extreme Makeover” of community sports facilities. These projects give children a place to play and grow and give the community a center of hope in which they can take pride.

Character Camps: Heroes and coaches from professional sports teams give underprivileged youth the opportunity to learn the importance of character, purpose and responsibility while simultaneously developing athletic skills.

Play It Forward: This program collects and rejuvenates sporting equipment to be donated to kids in need, ensuring every child in North Texas has the chance to “get in the game.”

PPFeed the Need:: Provides hope through food for those in need. The group focuses on disadvantaged and at-risk children, whether in a battered women’s shelter, a low income community, or a children’s hospital.

The Foundation is comprised of Pro Players who are current and former professional athletes who seek to raise funding and community awareness through support of the Foundation’s special events and programs; a Board of Directors that is responsible for day-to-day operation of the Foundation; an Advisory Board that consists of business leaders, media representatives and executives from the professional sports teams in North Texas; and an army of volunteers and supporters who help us execute our mission.

In partnership with area professional sports teams and with the help of corporate sponsorship, a small army of volunteers will work to rejuvenate neglected baseball fields, give new life to well-worn basketball courts and restore football, baseball and soccer fields and build playgrounds.

Instant RePlay gives us a chance to enable a community to engage kids in positive activities at a facility we work together create or revitalize.

Instant RePlay Build Day Volunteers Great Working Hard Children are influenced by many people outside of their home, school and spiritual environments. Athletes can a big part of that outside influence. Athletes reach the highest levels through hard work, dedication and individual desire. Character Camps’ purpose is to have athletes share these experiences with our youth. These camps give youth of all ages the opportunity to learn the importance of character, integrity, purpose and responsibility in everyday life while simultaneously developing their athletic abilities.

Through Character Camps, athletes share some of the special skills that have made them successful in their sport while also instilling in the children some of the character-building skills necessary to succeed in life. Many children watch a professional athlete on television or at a sporting event, but very few ever know about the hard work, sacrifice, and dedication the athlete went through to get to that level. Character Camps give PPF athletes a chance to share both their talent and their inspirational stories with kids, helping them learn to do their very best while interacting positively with those around them.

Mavs Great Rolando Blackman teaches Teamwork

Cowboys Legend speaks about dedication Play It Forward - USA is the newest member of the Pro Players Foundation family and its official youth component. Begun in April, 2010, by five local High School students, PIF is dedicated to making sure no child in the North Texas area is unable to participate in a sport because they can’t afford equipment.

With the motto “Athletes Helping Athletes,” Play It Forward started as a small, grass-roots effort to collect unwanted sporting equipment, refurbish it, and donate it to needy athletes. It has since grown into a much larger and wider-based endeavor, helping athletes across North Texas. Play-It-Forward now works with area teams, leagues and foundations to fulfill its mission.

The PIF team has conducted numerous equipment drives with schools and local youth teams of all sports. The equipment collected has already outfitted inner-city football and baseball teams, as well as a number of individual athletes from area shelters and orphanages. PIF has started local chapters in area high schools and continues to meet with interested athletes from other area schools to mentor and educate them about PIF. For more information visit:

PPFeed the Need provides hope through food for those in need. The group focuses on disadvantaged and at-risk children, whether in a battered women’s shelter, low income community, or a children’s hospital.

In addition to barbequing on site, the team coordinates with our many restaurants to cater at all PPF Events.

PPFeed the Need brings people together through food, and inspires members of a community to revive hope in their own lives by providing sustenance for kids in need and the individuals working to help them. Advisory Board

Instant RePlay & Character Camp Report Dallas Life Shelter Playground:

Pro Players Foundation with the help of the Dallas Stars, The Dallas Life Homeless Shelter and The Dallas Crystal Ball Charity refurbished a playground for the Dallas Life Shelter located in Downtown. The Instant Replay, named “design day” for the children at the Dallas Life Foundation Homeless Shelter and after completion held a Character Camp.

Our playground instant replay is one that Pro Players Foundation holds near and dear to our hearts as the children Dallas Life Foundation Homeless Shelter got to put forth their very own creative skills to play a hand in the creation of our playground. Each child had the opportunity to draw up their dream playground and PPF with the help of our partners made their dreams a reality. Elements from the children’s drawings were integrated into the final design for he new community playground. The project will provide a place to play for the 50-70 children living at the complex on average. The Dallas Life Shelter is the third largest homeless shelter in the United States, housing up to 750 people at a given time.

PPF had the honor of Dallas Stars greats Jere Lehtinen and Bob Bassen as well as Project Chair Stephane Robidas, Defenseman and Alternate Captain of the 2011-2012 Dallas Stars Hockey Team, to help the children with their drawings as well as teach them a thing or two about their slap shot.

PPF could not have built and executed this project without the help of our great partners at Child’s Play, Inc., Glidden, Home Depot and The Home Depot Foundation who helped make the children’s dreams a reality! Instant RePlay PPF Visits Hope's Door for the Holidays Playground Build and Christmas Dedication Celebration with the Dallas Stars

Christmas came early for the families of Hope’s Door when more than 50 volunteers from the Pro Players Foundation and the Dallas Stars paid a special visit to the domestic violence shelter. Pro Players Foundation partnered with the Dallas Stars Foundation and Child's Play, Inc. to make the playground a reality and bring a new found joy is that has been missing from the lives from many of the children in the shelter. Pro Players Bob Bassen (NHL), Stephen Howard (NBA ), and Steve Duchsene (NHL), spent their Saturday pouring concrete, replacing mulch, and building a state-of- the-art playground.

“The build went extremely well. We were able to provide a playground for Hope’s Door that children of this shelter can enjoy for many years,” Christa Melia from the Dallas Stars Foundation, said. “Because the children in our shelter and in hiding, they are not able to play outside like they would if they were still in their homes. Thanks to this generous donation, these children will have a wonderful new place to play in safety and will be able to use the gift of play to help them heal from the trauma of witnessing abuse,” Kelly Vaughan, Hope’s Door Director of Development, said.

The holiday cheer didn’t end with the construction. A PPF Santa Claus made a special appearance with the Ice Girls, bringing the holiday spirit and fulfilling the Christmas wishes of the 27 children in the transitional program by handing out gifts for each child, as well as bicycles complete with helmets and pads for the shelter. “It was nice to see the new bikes and the new playground with new mulch the kids were going to enjoy for Christmas and beyond,” Pro Player and Dallas Stars Alumni Association Director, Bob Bassen said. “The playground build was a perfect setting for my family and I to spend a Saturday morning helping such an important cause. We love to support the Stars Foundation and The Pro Player’s Foundation.”

At the dedication, local youth participated in a basketball and character camp clinic with professional athlete speakers.
