Tempers Flare As Rockies Overpower Braves 10-3 SPORTS SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 2014 MLB CAPSULES Tempers flare as Rockies overpower Braves 10-3 DENVER: Corey Dickerson hit Atlanta catcher Gerald Laird with his backswing and tempers quickly flared, setting off a tense sequence and leading to several ejections Thursday as the Colorado Rockies beat the Braves 10-3. Weiss was held back by plate umpire Jordan Baker before being ejected. When he returned to the dugout, Weiss smashed a bat against the wall. In the ninth, Rockies reliever Nick Masset hit Gattis in the hip with a pitch. Both Masset and Rockies bench coach Tom Runnells were immediately tossed.     On the field at Kauffman Stadium before the May 13th game between the Kansas City Royals and Colorado Rockies I was looking for Rene Lachemann to tell him that one of his former teammates wanted to see him. But Rene was not around, so I began asking different Rockies players and staff if they had seen Mr. Lachemann. All of them responded with the same reply, “You will hear him before you see him.” Soon it was discovered what they meant as the bench coach of the Rockies made his way up from under the stadium where he had been working with one of the catchers, and his booming voice could be heard. This voice has been heard by many major league and minor league players for many years as Rene Lachemann has managed and coached and trained these players in the finer points of the game. Rene was born in Los Angeles California and is the youngest of three brothers to have long careers in professional baseball. Rene served as a batboy for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1959 to 1962, went to the University of California and was signed by the Kansas City Athletics in 1964 as a catcher. He played for the KC A’s in 1965 and 1966 and moved with the team to Oakland appearing in games in 1968. He began managing in the Oakland minor leagues in 1973 spending 5 seasons in the A’s system before going to the Seattle Mariners organization. He took his first major league managers job in 1981 with the Mariners succeeding Maury Wills, and led the M’s from 1981-1983.

    MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEKLY NOTES FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 BLACKMON WORKING TOWARD HISTORIC SEASON On Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies All-Star outfi elder Charlie Blackmon went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and his 24th home run of the season. With the round-tripper, Blackmon recorded his 57th extra-base hit on the season, which include 20 doubles, 13 triples and his aforementioned 24 home runs. Pacing the Majors in triples, Blackmon trails only his teammate, All-Star Nolan Arenado for the most extra-base hits (60) in the Majors. Blackmon is looking to become the fi rst Major League player to log at least 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a single season since Curtis Granderson (38-23-23) and Jimmy Rollins (38-20-30) both accomplished the feat during the 2007 season. Since 1901, there have only been seven 20-20-20 players, including Granderson, Rollins, Hall of Famers George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957), Jeff Heath (1941), Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley (1928) and Frank Schulte, who did so during his MVP-winning 1911 season. Charlie would become the fi rst Rockies player in franchise history to post such a season. If the season were to end today, Blackmon’s extra-base hit line (20-13-24) has only been replicated by 34 diff erent players in MLB history with Rollins’ 2007 season being the most recent. It is the fi rst stat line of its kind in Rockies franchise history. Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig is the only player in history to post such a line in four seasons (1927-28, 30-31).

    Changing a Team's wRC+ Statistic This is the seventh of a series of preseason articles about the impact of air density on baseball performance, written for DailyBaseballData.com by Clifton Neeley of www.baseballVMI.com . Even casual observers understand that the Colorado Rockies are the single most unique team ever to compete in Major League Baseball. They have the highest home batting average of any team ever over the course of their history and maintain the highest home winning percent over their history. But, coupling those gaudy home numbers with the lowest road batting averages and win percent, as well as recent revelations of their Weighted Runs Created, Plus (wRC+) statistic, the Rockies remain an anomaly, almost indescribable. A recent article in the Denver Post by writer Patrick Saunders pointed out the wRC+ road statistic as being the worst in the league in spite of the overall high scoring production. Mr. Saunders also outlined the management's planned attempt to bring the road stat into more normal ranges. To be fair, the management has their hands tied. Each year the Rockies add another statistical anomaly without being able to fix any, and the team has done nothing in terms of facilities to prepare for the future, so a new idea must be born every year in order to promise the fans a reason to buy tickets. Just as all the other teams in the league have done for years, they promise a new player, a new coach or manager, and/or a new focus on bringing the most recently exposed anomaly into conformity with the balance of the league.

Since joining the Dodgers, Greinke is 6-1 against Colorado and 20-1 against the NL West, while the Dodgers are 43-20 in his starts. "He was typical Zack," said Dodgers manager Don Mattingly. "He located, he changed speeds. He had a couple quick innings in the middle that kept his pitch count down. He got sick a couple days ago and we sent him home early yesterday." Rockies starting pitcher Jordan Lyles was charged with four runs in six innings, walking five. "Tonight was not good," Lyles said. "I cannot walk that many people." In addition to LeMahieu's homer, the Rockies scored in the first inning onCharlie Blackmon's leadoff double and Troy Tulowitzki's RBI single. But with spotty starting pitching, less-than-crisp overall play and reliever Brooks Brown giving up two seventh-inning runs -- the first off him since last Aug. 26 -- the Rockies didn't play well enough to beat Greinke. It was a similar story Friday in a 7-3 loss to the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw.
