SOLUS CHRISTUS CHRIST ALONE

LOVE ALONE IS CREDIBLE 5 SOLAS ARE

/ Scripture Alone • / Faith Alone • / Grace Alone • Solus Christus / Christ Alone (Christ as King) • / For the Glory of God Alone

Solus Christus, Christ alone is one of the five Solas of the . However, it’s the first differentiation as it focuses on a person, not a characteristic.

Solus Christus emphasizes that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is not only necessary for salvaiton but suficient to save. Love, the most credible source of motivation the cosmos could ever know.. SIN

It is dificult to talk about God, love, justice, mercy, grace, redemption and not talk about sin. This is not to scare anyone with images of the boogie man. Yet, love alone is credible. Even in a state ravaged by sin, love alone is credible.

Predominate religious thought insists that God can not forgive without first appeasing justice. Thus forcing God into subjugation to justice. Justice will have her due before the sovereign God may be aloud to forgive.

Sin is not a measurement of how bad we are. Biblically defined sin is not the little things we do wrong. Instead, SIN is a measurement of how good we are not. Sin is humanity lined up against the backdrop of the perfection of a holy God. Sin is the recognition that we cannot withstand scrutiny. POINT 1 NO AMOUNT OF HUMAN WORKS OR MERIT CAN CONTRIBUTE TO CHRIST'S FINISHED PRIESTLY WORK JESUS ALONE

hrist’s all-suficiency means, by implication, that we are C insuficient of ourselves. Jesus alone or not at all. Jesus is, alone and by himself, all that is needed.

“Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.” -2 Corinthians 3:5 JESUS ALONE

• He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, - Titus 3:5

• But now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, as attested by the Law and the Prophets. 22 And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction, - Romans 3:21, 22

• “So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.’” - Luke 17:10

• And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. -Revelation 5:9 POINT 2 CHRIST MUST HAVE THE SUPREMACY IN ALL THINGS

he gospel is not a message of what we must do for God; T the gospel is the good news of what God has done for us. Salvation is not essentially about us; it is about Jesus, Solus Christus.

“And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.” -Colossians 1:18

The cross is the defining moment of the Christian faith. The single greatest paradox hides under the ugly disfigurement of the crucifixion.

This glorious picture is the single greatest question our minds could wrestle with. The cross is both brutally ugly and unchallenged beauty. THE DEATH OF CHRIST IS MENTIONED OFTEN IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.

Christ's death, as remember by his disciples and apostles, paints an account of how we should relate to this killing. Some of the accounts are as follows;

• this [Jesus], delivered over by the predetermined plan and godless men and put Him to death. - Acts 2:23

• And you killed the Author of life, whom God has raised up out from the dead, whereof we are witnesses. - Acts 3:15

• The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross. - Acts 5:30

• Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become - Acts 7:52 POINT 3 LORD AND KING SIN'S FAILURE IS OUR REBELLION

in is our attempt to say I will be my KING. Hence, we fail. S Sin is a rejection of God's gracious love.

But God demonstrates his love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

“By grace you have been saved through faith.” - Ephesians 2:8

CHRISTUS VICTOR, LATIN FOR CHRIST THE VICTORY.

Christus Victor teaches that, not just in his death, but in Jesus' life, death, burial, and resurrection, Christ was victorious over sin and death. The one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. - 1John 3:8..

AS A RESULT OF SOLUS CHRISTUS WE LIVE IN THE SHADOW OF CHRISTUS VICTOR. JESUS ALONE HAS DEFEATED THE ADVISORY OF HUMANITY AND RESTORED ALL. NEXT, SOLI DEO GLORIA
