Celebrating NYC ARTS DECEMBER 2016 - YC-ARTS provides arts lovers in the tri-state area and beyond with an all-access pass to the city’s many eclectic cultural offerings. In the process, the weekly show makes a measurable impact on the institutions, artists and patrons N of these area treasures. Co-hosted by New York Emmy Award winners Philippe de Montebello and Paula Zahn, with events around town reported by News Correspondent Christina Ha, the series—now in its eighth season—showcases both world-renowned and local, community- based arts organizations with its weekly broadcast and comprehensive website. This month, viewers can enjoy an extra dose of the award-winning series with its first-ever two-hour special, Celebrating NYC-ARTS. Highlights include a feature segment at The Morgan Library & Museum, where the original manuscript of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is on display. Viewers are also taken inside the American Museum of Natural History for a look at the Origami Holiday Tree – a Big Apple holiday tradition for more than 40 years. © 2012 PAUL KOLNIK PREMIERES MONDAY, DECEMBER 19 AT 8PM “My family and I are longtime supporters of PBS, and we love NYC-ARTS in particular…the NYC-ARTS AIRS WEEKLY ON SUNDAYS AT 3PM short segments are the perfect length to give us a taste of what’s out there,” wrote Learn more at nyc-arts.org Jill Ratzan, a THIRTEEN member in New Jersey. The benefits have proven to be a two-way street, with many featured artists and venues reporting the positive impact of an appearance on NYC-ARTS. New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert said, “Classical music can sometimes fly under the radar of our very busy, digitally-obsessed culture, so getting prominent TV coverage for what we are doing is a very important way to engage a broad audience and invite them to participate in what we are doing.” Young Soon Kim, Artistic Director of Brooklyn-based White Wave dance company, wrote, “Thanks to NYC-ARTS for highlighting the Eternal NOW performance…Besides selling out our opening night, we had a wonderful turnout for Friday and Saturday nights’ performances with standing ovations. What a great way to end our run!” From ballet to Broadway, the Public Theater to Lincoln Center, experimental art to grand opera, this city has it all. Leap into the wonderful world of our local arts scene with NYC-ARTS! BRINGING THE THEATER HOME Theater Close-Up continues to bring off-Broadway theater productions to your television set, with two acclaimed plays premiering this month. Sam Shepard’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Buried Child from The New Group—starring Ed Harris, Amy Madigan and Taissa Farmiga—is a poetic and cuttingly funny take on the American family drama, which pulls apart the threadbare deluded visions of our families and our homes. Jonathan Tolins’ comedy Buyer & Cellar stars Michael Urie in a one-man production that takes the “BURIED CHILD” PREMIERES SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18 AT 10PM “BUYER & CELLAR” PREMIERES SUNDAY, DECEMBER 25 AT 10:30PM audience on a rollercoaster ride of fame and friendship at the outer reaches of American celebrity, performed and taped at the Westport Country Playhouse.
