Since the beginning of the customer racing program in 2009 the brand has already won the endurance classic five times with the GT3 sports car Audi R8 LMS. No other manufacturer was as successful in this era. “We have succeeded in shaping an era at the Nürburgring in just over a decade. At our twelfth start we now want to fight for our sixth overall victory,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. Lightning bolts streaking across the night sky announced the arrival of rain and thunderstorms. The rain eased a bit before torrential rain arrived just after dawn and heavy fog covered sections of the track by noon. The heavy fog and moisture triggered a red flag which erased a lead of over four minutes enjoyed by the #4 black and orange Black Falcon Mercedes AMG over the #912 green and yellow Manthey Porsche. Das Audi Sport Team Land schreibt in der 45. Auflage des Langstreckenklassikers einen neuen Eifelkrimi mit Happy End. Connor De Phillippi/Christopher Mies/Markus Winkelhock und Kelvin van der Linde verlieren 90 Minuten vor Schluss die Führung im Audi R8 LMS mit der Startnummer 29 und erobern sich in der letzten Runde ihre Spitzenposition zurück. Das Schwesterauto mit der Startnummer 28 (De Phillippi/Mies/Kaffer/Haase) muss das Rennen vorzeitig in der Box beenden. Mit einer Bestzeit für die Startnummer 29 (De Phillippi/Mies/Winkelhock/van der Linde) begann der Auftakt zum 45. ADAC 24h-Rennen beim Training am Donnerstag. Kelvin van der Linde war mit 8:19,066 der schnellste Pilot im Starterfeld. Die Startnummer 28 (De Phillippi/Mies/Haase/Kaffer) belegte mit einer 8:27.955 die achte Position. Im folgenden ersten Qualifying standen für das Team Audi Sport Team Land die Plätze 4 (#29) und 19 (#28) auf dem Zeitenmonitor. Zwölf Plätze waren noch für die Teilnahme am Top-30- Qualifying zu vergeben. Die Startnummer 28 hatte sich bereits im Qualifikationsrennen (22.- 23. April 2017) die blaue Lampe gesichert, mit der die 30 schnellsten Fahrzeuge im Starterfeld ausgestattet werden. Und auch die Startnummer 29 konnte sich mit einem sechsten Platz im kombinierten Qualifying-Ergebnis vor dem 24h-Rennen die blaue Lampe sichern. Die Startpositionen für das Einzelzeitfahren wurden traditionsgemäß wieder am Freitag ausgelost. Following his victories at Monza and Zolder, the championship leader also won Saturday’s race at the Nürburgring. After the first half of the season, the South African, who lives near Kempten, has a 33-point lead in the drivers’ championship. In the teams’ championship, ABT Sportsline is also at the top of the table after the first half of the 2021 DTM season. Saturday was a picture-perfect day for ABT Sportsline: Kelvin van der Linde secured pole position for the third time this season with a perfect qualifying lap and then celebrated a commanding victory. On the way, he only had to shake twice when late stoppers Timo Glock and Alex Albon put up a massive fight against the ABT driver. The South African stayed cool, grabbed the two opponents and, after crossing the finish line, ordered an ice cream from SAT.1 commentator Eddy Mielke, which was promptly served to him by colleague Andrea Kaiser at the podium ceremony. Walter Kolb accepted the trophy for the winning team. The 73-year-old pensioner from Isny had auctioned a seat at the pit stand of ABT Sportsline for the race at the Nürburgring by donating 6,000 Euros for the victims of the flood disaster in the region. The DTM was the first race event after the flood at the Nürburgring. Before the start of the race, children affected by the flood had visited the ABT Sportsline pit and were even allowed to hold the steering wheel of the eventual winning car in their hands before the race.
