While the company traditionally derived majority of its revenues from the semiconductor and telecom sectors, it is currently witnessing traction under automotive electronics, industrial automation and consumer segments, which supported YoY growth in revenues of 7.7% and 2.0% in FY2018 and H1FY2019 respectively. ICRA notes that Sasken’s operating margins expanded by 260 bps YoY to 13.8% in FY2018 from 11.2% in FY2017 supported by execution of margin-accretive complex orders, higher contribution from fixed price contracts and cost optimization. The ratings also continue to take comfort from healthy debt metrics of the company supported by nil debt and cash and liquid investments of Rs. 528.5 crore as on Sep 30, 2018. Sasken’s business prospects are further supported by healthy growth prospects in the engineering, research and development (ER&D) industry. Synergies from its legacy in semiconductor industry and strong expertise in communication and multimedia space is expected to support Sasken’s business prospects. That said, the ratings continue to be constrained by Sasken’s moderate scale of operations in a highly competitive industry marked by presence of relatively larger players constraining its pricing flexibility to a certain extent. -

GKCA Update st th 1 to 30 June Starred Articles 05 CII announces 10-point plan for economic revival June Economy > GDP India The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) voiced its concern over the stagnant state of the Indian economy and in a bid to rescue her, has unveiled a 10-point agenda for its revival. The remedies include fast-tracking the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and easing of FDI (foreign direct investment) regulations in aviation and other sectors. Addressing a press conference on 5th June 2012, CII President, Adi B. Godrej, said that the primary concern for the nation was its GDP growth rate which was a mere 5.37 per cent in the last quarter was lowest in nine years. Some of the important reform to improve GDP growth as suggested by him are - early introduction of GST, the Government and the RBI inclusion of a strong monetary stimulus, correcting the current account deficit by encouraging exports and containing imports, arresting rupee slide, reducing subsidies, implementing financial sector reforms and removing bottlenecks in infrastructure growth. 06 Venus Transits between Sun and Earth June World > Space Planet Venus passed directly between the Sun and Earth on 6 June 2012, an astronomical rarity that sky watchers were eager to witness. New Space for the Future of Work: Co-working in India ABSTRACT The nature of work is changing, leading to the loss of some jobs and the creation of others that require radically changed skills. In India, as the requirements of this evolving labour market change, co-working spaces fulfil many of the new needs. The aim of this paper is twofold: to describe the development of the co-working industry in India, its driving factors, as well as the architecture, design and social aspects of the work environment; and explore the demographics of co-workers, the kind of jobs they do, their work conditions, interactions, career aspirations, and satisfaction levels. The study builds on a survey of 462 people working at co-working spaces operated by WeWork, and was supplemented by interviews with staff, as well as a literature review. -
