The nationally established Glee Club’s latest venue sees the award-winning comedy brand teaming up with the Luminar Group - the company which ran the basement premises as JJ’s club until late last year. Big-name comedy performers already booked to appear include Patrick Monahan, Gary Delaney, Nathan Caton and Paul McCaffrey. The highly rated comedians will be following in the footsteps of the leg- endary Laurel and Hardy, who performed at the Theatre Royal in 1952. Explaining the reasons for opening a venue in Hanley, Glee Club founder Mark Tughan said: “As soon as we were shown the place, we knew we had a lot to offer. There’s a really vibrant nighttime entertainment scene in Hanley, and we’re looking to add to this by bringing back big laughs and top comics to the former Theatre Royal.” For further information, visit glee.co.uk Festive duo Hooked on pantomime Jonathan Wilkes and Christian Patterson look set to further cement their status as Stoke’s favourite panto duo when they return to the city’s Regent Theatre this Christmas to star in Peter Pan.

  • Beyond the Black Are Most Certainly That. You're in Doubt?
Lost in Forever - LIVE Stratospheric? Beyond The Black are most certainly that. You’re in doubt? Let’s explain… …Only two years ago, dynamic frontwoman and world-class vocalist Jennifer Haben and her band colleagues celebrated their live debut on stage at the legendary Wacken Open Air 2014. A few months later they were supporting the legendary SAXON on their UK tour. On February 13th 2015 the band released their debut full-length album Songs of Love and Death, which hit the German top 20 album charts, and which was produced by melodic metal maestro Sascha Paeth (Avantasia, Edguy, Epica, Kamelot, Rhapsody). You’ve probably already guessed that the album was royally received throughout Europe, with Haben establishing herself as one of the leading voices in hard rock and metal music. Beyond The Black continued to conquer the road. They played their own headliner tour in spring and autumn 2015, and featured at several of Germany’s biggest rock & metal- festivals. Momentum is beautiful thing; Beyond The Black supported Queensrÿche in Holland and Within Temptation in Switzerland, and their incredible ascent culminated in them receiving the “Best Debut Album 2015” Metal Hammer Award. In just a few years at the start of the 20th century, Britain changed in unimaginable ways. From the first foray into aviation, to the invention of labour-saving devices for the home, to the rise of “the brand”, and the birth of not only “the High Street”, but also of the “commuter class”, mass consumerism and tabloid journalism, the Edwardians lived lives not too distant from our own. This new BBC Four season investigates, interrogates and celebrates the richness and excitement of this pioneering and world-changing time. 01 bbc_four_Autmun_2006.qxd:Layout 1 16/1/07 10:42 Page 5 The season includes some of the era’s best-known names, from literary giants such as George and Weedon Grossmith and Saki, to the doyenne of the music hall, Marie Lloyd. Along the way, it also uncovers lesser-known figures. It hears about trailblazers in the fields of social reform, journalism, photography, entrepreneurship and technical invention, uncovering what it really felt like to be Edwardian. Dramas The season launches with Andrew Davies’s brilliant, two-part adaptation of the classic comedy novel The Diary Of A In a compelling drama about the life of one of the biggest stars Nobody, starring Hugh Bonneville as the wonderfully of the time, Marie Lloyd – starring Jessie Wallace as Marie – pompous diarist Mr Charles Pooter – the Victor Meldrew of the season exposes the seedy underbelly of this peculiarly his day – Edwardian entertainment.

Issue 58 May 2016 FREE upporting ocal rts & erformers Last month ended on yet another sad musical note as Prince left this plane, if indeed he ever inhabited the same one as us mere mortals. Certainly not everyone's cup of Darjeeling but few could deny his supranatural talents whether in writing, playing, performing or inspiring; he was often cited as one of the most underrated guitarists, probably only though because he was so good at almost everything else. Tis a cliché but his like will certainly not be seen again: Sometimes It Snows In April indeed. MAY2016 On a brighter note April also saw a record-breaking (not literally hopefully) Record Store Day as local shops outdid themselves, despite some unfortunates queueing outside Rise in Worcester having to contend with snow flurries.
