The Cornell International Affairs Society Proudly Presents CIAC VIII Cornell International Affairs Conference VIII JCC Star Wars: The Republic Background Guide November 2nd - 5th Cornell University, Ithaca, NY Letter from the Chair Dear Delegates of the Galactic Republic, Throughout the history of our fair republic, it is in times of great crisis that even greater heroes arise. Now, that responsibility falls on all of you, as the very fabric of our society is torn by an insidious darkness. However, in a galaxy far far away... It is my pleasure to welcome you all to Cornell International Affairs Conference (CIAC) 2017. My name is Jenniston Francis and I am very excited to serve as your chair for the simulation of the Star Wars JCC. I am currently a junior at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where I am majoring in finance in the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. My involvement with Model UN began much like your own: I was a delegate throughout high school, where I learned a lot from the debate and simulation in Model UN. This simulation will run as a joint crisis committee, with a particular focus on creating policies and responses that directly respond to both the actions of our rival committee and of the universe at large. These crisis committees offer a heightened delegate experience, revolving around fast-paced and dynamic debate. In order to be fully be prepared for this committee, please be prepared with exhaustive research, an open mind, and intellectual interest in debating and resolving the pressing issues you will be faced with. -

12/25/2017 V.5.2 KOTOR Anon Coruscant: This planet wide metropolis is the capital of the Republic and the home of the Jedi Order. The city is stacked upon hundreds of levels, each one becoming more dangerous as you descend. Despite the crime that occurs below the surface, Coruscant is probably the safest place in the entire galaxy. Dantooine: A peaceful farming planet, and home to secret Jedi enclave. Much of Dantooine is still uninhabited, and there are dozens of Force sensitive ruins spread out across the planet. Pretty much the only threats on Dantooine are the raiders, the wild animals, and the occasional fallen Jedi. Korriban: The ancient homeworld of the Sith, this planet is deeply entrenched in the dark-side of the Force. Korriban is one big wasteland with only a single small settlement. The Exchange has a small presence on the planet, and the old Sith tombs currently lie undisturbed. Manaan: The entire surface of the planet is one big ocean, and the only terrestrial settlement is the massive artificial island know as Ahto city. Manaan is the Selkath homeworld, and the galaxies sole provider of Kolto, a powerful healing substance. The planet is neutral, but maintains an alliance with the Republic. Telos IV: Telos is a major Republic world, and the headquarters of the Jedi Agricultural Corps. The diverse and fertile environment supports planet wide farming, and both the Republic military and Telos Security Force provide protection for the planet. Onderon: Onderon and It’s moon were some of the most heavily occupied planets during the Mandalorian wars, and despite being liberated by the Republic, some of the people of Onderon have developed a new distaste for both the Mandalorians and the Republic. -

A New Hope Rules
A New Hope™ Star Wars™ Customizable Card Game™ RULES SUPPLEMENT A New Hope™, the first expansion set for the Star Wars™ Customizable Card Game™, contains 162 exciting new cards which introduce additional elements from the first Star Wars film. Many of the new cards were created in response to player feedback. This sheet supplements the Premiere rules and explains new terms. Immediate Effect — A new type of effect card which plays at any time (like an interrupt), but stays on the table (like an effect). Immediate effects are not vulnerable to Alter, as indicated by the wording of the Alter card. “Immune to Control” — This statement does not refer to the control phase or control of a site, but instead refers to a new card called Control which will appear in a future expansion set. (Control, like Sense and Alter, is one of the three primary Jedi powers.) Used Or Lost Interrupt — A new type of interrupt which may be played as a used interrupt or a lost interrupt (player’s choice). Multiple Destiny Numbers — If a card has more than one destiny number, the player drawing it for destiny chooses which number to use. “Lose 1 Force to…” — Similar to “Use 1 Force to…,” except that the card may come from your hand or your Life Force and must go to your Lost Pile instead of your Used Pile. Cumulatively — A boldfaced term used in game text to indicate that multiple copies of a card can increasingly affect the same thing. For example, Rebel Tech says, “Cumulatively adds 1 to the total of Attack Run.” Three Rebel Techs would therefore add 3 to Attack Run. -

PDF Book General Krell orders Captain Rex and the clone troopers of the st Legion to conquer a heavily fortified Umbaran airbase, and will not accept anything less than victory. Note : This episode's title card is red instead of yellow. Instead of staying together, though, he went on to be a Jedi and she became a Regent. Sign In. Tup is undergoing a medical examination in the sterile laboratories of Kamino to find the motives for his shocking attack on the Jedi Master. Note : Chronologically, this episode takes place before "Senate Spy". The droids held the clone survivors prisoner in the compound's eastern courtyard. Adding to Skywalker's problems was the fact that his replacement astromech, R3-S6 , [18] was a spy droid for Grievous. Ventress defeats Grievous and escapes while the rest of the Nightsisters are massacred, whereas Talzin escapes when her attempt of finishing off Dooku is ultimately foiled. Grievous boarded a C troopship to reach Saleucami's surface, forcing Cody, Gallia, and Kenobi to suspend their pursuit of him. R2-D2 is lost during a fierce space battle—and Anakin must find him before the Separatists discover the Jedi military secrets locked in his memory banks. After overwhelming the Separatist ground forces, Tarkin and his soldiers detained the scientists who were operating the Shadowfeeds. Only Cody and his detachment of AT-TE walkers managed to reach Point Rain , the Republic's staging area near the ray shield generator, where Cody organized his walkers in a defensive formation. -
Guynes and Hassler-Forest, Star Wars and the History of Transmedia Storytelling.Split-And-Merged
TRANSMEDIA Edited by Sean Guynes and Dan Hassler-Forest STAR WARS and the History of Transmedia Storytelling Star Wars and the History of Transmedia Storytelling Transmedia: Participatory Culture and Media Convergence The book series Transmedia: Participatory Culture and Media Convergence provides a platform for cutting-edge research in the field of media studies, with a strong focus on the impact of digitization, globalization, and fan culture. The series is dedicated to publishing the highest-quality monographs (and exceptional edited collections) on the developing social, cultural, and economic practices surrounding media convergence and audience participation. The term ‘media convergence’ relates to the complex ways in which the production, distribution, and consumption of contemporary media are affected by digitization, while ‘participatory culture’ refers to the changing relationship between media producers and their audiences. Interdisciplinary by its very definition, the series will provide a publishing platform for international scholars doing new and critical research in relevant fields. While the main focus will be on contemporary media culture, the series is also open to research that focuses on the historical forebears of digital convergence culture, including histories of fandom, cross- and transmedia franchises, reception studies and audience ethnographies, and critical approaches to the culture industry and commodity culture. Star Wars: the Jedi Chronicles Episode II: Army of the Jedi
Star Wars: The Jedi Chronicles Episode II: Army of the Jedi By Myles L. Edmundson Based on characters and situations created by George Lucas Chapter IV Calm Before the Storm Padme Amidala has been ordered to take a leave of absence. While she is off Coruscant, Jar-Jar will take up her duties in the Senate. Additionally, Obi-Wan Kenobi travels to the distant planet of Kamino to investigate the mysterious Chenko Brothers. But while the Jedi Order protects Padme and try to get to the bottom of the attempts on her life, dark and sinister forces push the Empire inexorably toward war. In a dark and remote part of space, a theta-class shuttle emerged from hyperspace. The red dwarf star was small and dim. It was orbited by a vast disk of dust, asteroids, and feeble planetoids. The shuttle was black, barely visible in the black background of space. The shuttle approached a planetoid near the edge of the system, and skimmed its surface till it reached a collection of domes and prefabricated structures fixed to the surface. Folding its flight wings, the shuttle set down on a landing pad, and descended beneath the surface of the planetoid. Darth Sidious stepped out from the boarding ramp. As a master of the Dark Side of the Force, he was capable of appearing as a shadow, dark and formless. He could even use the force to ensure others would see nothing but blackness beneath his hood. He oozed through the corridors of the nameless outpost, shadow and darkness seeming to follow him like a foul stench. -

Marquette University e-Publications@Marquette English Faculty Research and Publications English, Department of 1-1-2017 Hokey Religions: Star Wars and Star Trek in the Age of Reboots Gerry Canavan Marquette University, [email protected] Accepted version. Extrapolation, Vol. 58, No. 2-3 (2017): 153-180. DOI. © 2017 Liverpool University Press. Used with permission. 1 “Hokey Religions: Star Wars and Star Trek in the Age of Reboots” Gerry Canavan In the last few years debates over stewardship, fidelity, and corporate ownership have arisen in both STAR WARS and STAR TREK1 fandom, as long-standing synchronicity between corporate interest and fan investment in these franchises has suddenly and very sharply diverged. After several decades nurturing hyperbolic “expanded universes” in tie- in media properties, through which devoted fans might more fully inhabit the narrative worlds depicted in the more central film and television properties, the corporate owners of both properties have determined that their commercial interests now lie in reboots that eliminate those decades of excess continuity and allow the properties to “start fresh” with clean entry points for a new generation of fans. In the case of STAR WARS, the ongoing narrative has been streamlined by prioritizing only the six films and certain television programs as “canonical” and relegating the rest to the degraded status of apocryphal “Star Wars Legends,” in hopes of drawing in rather than alienating potential viewers of the forthcoming Episodes 7-9 (2015-2019). In the case of STAR TREK, the transformation is even more radical; utilizing a diegetic time-travel plotline originating within the fictional universe itself, the franchise has been “reset” to an altered version of its original 1960s incarnation, seemingly relegating every STAR TREK property filmed or published before 2009 to the dustbin of future history—in effect obsolescing its entire fifty-year history, “canon” and “non-canon” alike, in the name of attracting a new audience for the rebooted franchise.
