Athletics Department @DrexelAthletics Head Coach: Aaron Roussell (Iowa ‘01, seventh season) Women’s Basketball @DrexelDragonsWB Head Coach • Denise Dillon Villanova ‘96 • 16th Season • Career Record: 283-196 Entering her 16th season as the head coach of Drexel’s women’s basket- ball team, Denise Dillon has become one of the most respected coaches The Dillon in collegiate women’s basketball, elevating the program to new heights File and maintaining an enviable consistency and high level of play. The winningest head coach in program history, Dillon has led the Dragons to nine postseason appearances. Those include the Dragons’ Career Highlights first CAA Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in the 2018 CAA Coach of the Year 2008-09 season, and a WNIT championship in 2012-13. 2009 CAA Coach of the Year Dillon’s Dragons are coming off their ninth postseason appearance 2005 CAA Co-Coach of the Year and their fourth consecutive trip to the WNIT. Drexel captured its sec- 2009 CAA Championship ond regular season CAA crown in 2017-18, winning a program-record 2009 NCAA Tournament 24 regular season games and finishing 16-2 in conference play. The 2013 WNIT Championship Dragons did not lose a regular season game at the Daskalakis Athletic 2010-13, 15-18 WNIT Center, and advanced to their fifth conference championship game Most wins at Drexel Dillon Milestone Wins before earning the league’s automatic bid to the WNIT. La Salle 6-5 (W4) Dillon came to Drexel in 2001 as an assistant coach in charge of recruiting and player development. Penn 8-5 (L1) Before coming to Drexel, Dillon boasted a remarkable playing career at Villanova under the tutelage of coaching legend Harry Perretta. Playing in an offense similar to the one now run by Drexel, Dillon scored Richmond 1-1 (W1) 1,355 points and pulled down 677 rebounds. She was an All-Rookie selection and a three-time All-Big 5 Towson 29-5 (W19) and All-Big East pick. Her playing career earned her enshrinement in the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame in James Madison 10-23 (W1) 2004, the Delaware County Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012, and the Villanova Varsity Club Hall of Fame in Delaware 17-18 (W7) 2013. She was also inducted into the Cardinal O’Hara High School Hall of Fame in 2018. Northeastern 23-4 (W7) Off the court, Dillon’s commitment to helping student-athletes grow as players and as people has been Hofstra 15-16 (W2) one of the program’s greatest success stories. Andrea Peterson (’09), Gabriela Marginean (’10), Hollie College of Charleston 7-3 (W2) Mershon (‘13), Meghan Creighton (’16) and Kelsi Lidge (’18) earned the CAA’s prestigious Dean Ehlers UNCW 20-6 (W13) Leadership Award. Nicole Hester (’09) was the recipient of the John Randolph Inspiration Award and the Elon 5-4 (L2) Philadelphia Writers Association’s Most Courageous Award in 2009. Hester, whose battle back from William & Mary 22-9 (W2) Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006-07 galvanized the team and the Drexel Athletics family, was recognized na- tionally as the recipient of the V Foundation Comeback Award and the Honda Inspiration Award. Through community outreach and serving others, the Dragons have helped to rally the Philadelphia community while using their experiences within the game of basketball to grow as individuals.
