Many pioneer families arrived during this time period, and in 1879 a group of them petitioned the BC Government to incorporate as a municipality. On November 10, 1879 The Corporation of the Township of Richmond was incorporated . A new Town Hall was built on land which now forms the corner of Cambie and River Roads and the first school district was formed, with the Town Hall acting as the schoolhouse.
