Highlights Needs

 Over 9,300 people benefitted from improved water supply as a result of 690k People in need of WASH borehole construction, water distribution services in NW/SW systems rehabilitation and construction of tank bases and tap stands by IRC. 414k Targeted  In May, WASH partners reached over 494,000 people through COVID-19 679k1 sensitization sessions. IDPs  WASH partners distributed assorted WASH items to over 16,700 individuals while 1,370 52 WASH partners people received hygiene and dignity kits.

 More than 3,500 people benefited from $9.5m improved sanitation facilities as a result of construction of permanent and emergency required for WASH trench latrines by CARITAS and IRC. $9.5m  During the reporting period, CHAMEG, IRC, SUDAHSER and AFRINET conducted 50 hygiene promotion trainings for community $0.2M

 In Ekondo Titi, IRC rehabilitated five boreholes for the benefit of 1,000 people and installed 18 water points in Bamusso, Ekondo Titi, Kombo Itindi, 1, Limbe, and sub-divisions, (including in health centres in Kumba 1, Limbe and Tiko), benefitting 2,500 people.  IRC also rehabilitated 20 water distribution systems in Muyuka, for the benefit of 5,800 people. HYGIENE  CARITAS, GCR, NRC and SUDAHSER distributed assorted WASH items2 to over 16,700 people in Donga-Mantung, Fako, , Meme, Mezam and Ndian divisions. SANITATION  In May, 108 emergency latrines were constructed by CARITAS and IRC in Bamusso, Ekondo Titi, Kumba 1 and 2, Mamfe and Muyuka sub-divisions. The latrines will be used by more than 3,500 people.  While WASH partners have scaled up COVID-19 infection, prevention and control sensitization, the usual sanitation and hygiene promotion sessions continued during the reporting period. In Donga-Mantung, Fako, Kupe Manenguba, Manyu, Meme, Mezam and Ndian divisions, AFRINET, CAMGEW, CHAMEG, GCR and IRC hygiene promotion teams reached over 62,800 people.  In Kumba, Limbe and Tiko sub-divisions of Meme and Fako divisions Latrine construction in Tiko. COVID-19  UNICEF and OCHA supported the joint cluster-led training of 81 frontline NGO staff on transmission, signs, symptoms and prevention of COVID-19 in the North West region. During this training, the North West Regional Delegation of Public Health created a network of NGOs that will enhance referral pathways for suspected cases of COVID-19.  During the reporting period, WASH partners, including CHAMEG, IRC, SUDAHSER and AFRINET trained over 2,990 community health workers, hygiene promoters and volunteers from Bui, Fako,

SUSPECTED CHOLERA OUTBREAK  Suspected cases of cholera were reported during the last week of May in Small and Big Kumbo villages in Mabeta, Limbe health district. The first suspected case, An 11 year old child, was reported on 28 May. WASH partners, including NRC, REACHOUT and UNICEF, under the coordination of OCHA, are mobilising resources to support the response to the suspected outbreak.

COORDINATION  NW/SW WASH Cluster held the May online cluster meeting on 18th June. GAPS/Challenges • Insufficient funding to implement WASH cluster response plan. • Implementation of activities is taking more time than planned because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. • With the onset of the rainy season, remote areas will become harder to reach due to impassable roads.
