Have you ever wanted to become a character in your favorite story? Here’s your chance! Join Lindsey Harman and the cast of My Story/Our Story Theatre for afternoons of creating each other’s favorite tales. Each actor will have a chance to share their favorite story with the group. We’ll turn that story into a play to be performed the last fifteen minutes of that day’s class. We’ll have costumes and props on hand and learn improvisational and vocal performance skills to enhance our productions!

KYRA BELLRICHARD, INSTRUCTOR Kyra brings fifteen years of experience working with youth in the fields of visual art, theatre and outdoor education. From the white beaches of Hawaii to the green mountains of Vermont Kyra has been inspired by the environments she has lived in and the people she has met. Outside of ArtHaus, you will find Kyra creating at The Clay Studio, enjoying good company or being entertained by her nieces. Kyra also directed Decorah’s Oneota Film Festival and is a Continuing Education Program Manager at Northeast Iowa Community College.

RACHELLE REIS BRANUM, INSTRUCTOR Rachelle Branum has been a key ArtHaus instructor since the beginning, and is now the owner of The Clay Studio on Washington Street. An artist/educator with a degree in Art Education from the University of Northern Iowa, Rachelle has experience teaching art in public schools and art centers, and as an artist- in-residence. She worked in museum education as a docent at the Institute of Art and is the former Assistant Curator of Education at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska. When Rachelle isn’t teaching, she is making her own work through Wise Owl Designs and Simple Joys Studios.

DAN BRUINS, INSTRUCTOR Daniel Bruins began making comics about giant robots in school notebooks back in sixth grade. Now he is pursuing a career in visual communication, which includes comics, illustration, graphic design, and animation. Dan attended the Perpich Arts High School and studied in the 2009 Minneapolis College of Art and Design Summer Expressions Session for animation. Dan, currently studying at Luther College, runs the digital art lab in the Luther Art Department and is involved in graphic narrative work with the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa.

ANNA CRENSHAW, INSTRUCTOR Anna has been an American Sign Language enthusiast for the past seven years. While attending MacMurray College, where she earned her Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Education degree, she lived and worked at the Illinois School for the Deaf to build her sign skills on a daily basis. She has completed teaching assignments at the Day School for the Deaf and the Wisconsin School for the Deaf, and now works full time for the Decorah School District as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Educator.

SUZANNE ERNST, INSTRUCTOR Suzanne Ernst taught flute and recorder on the music faculty of Luther College from 2001-2011. She taught and performed on recorder in the Luther College Early Music Ensemble and is a founding member of Dames’ Rocket Recorder Quartet which began in 2005. She is a charter member of Quintessence Woodwind Quintet which is now in its 14th year, and taught flute and woodwinds in the Decorah Public Schools from 1994-2002. Suzanne maintains an active private flute/recorder studio and has taught flute for over 25 years.

SARAH FRYDENLUND, INSTRUCTOR After finishing her degree at Luther College, Sarah completed an MFA in Canterbury, England and ran Cheltenham School of Fine Art and Crescent Artists’ Network where she organized community projects, exhibitions, and taught courses for children and adults in drawing, painting, and sculpture. When creating her own work, Sarah experiments with diverse techniques and materials to create mixed media sculpture and drawings. She is excited to be supporting Decorah’s creative community through ArtHaus and The Clay Studio.

LINDSEY HARMAN, INSTRUCTOR Lindsey Harman holds an MFA in Theatre Performance from Arizona State University and spends her creative time teaching theatre, voice, and childbirth education regionally. Lindsey spends most of her time with her husband Andrew and their greatest gifts and creations, Ezra & Shepard.

ZOE KLOSTERBOER, INSTRUCTOR Zoë Klosterboer, a Decorah native, graduated from St. Olaf College in May, 2011 with a BA in Studio Art. Following graduation, Zoë stayed at St. Olaf for a fifth year to work as an Art Apprentice, mentoring students and developing her own artwork. Zoë’s teaching experience includes a stint as Village Potter at Holden Village, and most recently as an art instructor for kids and young adults at the Northfield Arts Guild.

LEA DONHOWE LOVELACE, DIRECTOR OF LITTLE MASTERS ART STUDIO, CO-DIRECTOR OF ARTHAUS A Decorah native and a Luther College graduate, Lea has worked in the field of Art Education for over a decade. She has worn various hats including that of a teaching artist working with diverse populations of varied ages; a program director for a not-for-profit community art school; the manager of teacher programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago; and an independent contractor/consultant, connecting audience members to museum exhibitions. Lea has her MA in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2007 she moved back to Decorah with her family, a mere two-block commute from ArtHaus which she co-founded with Kristen Underwood in 2008. In addition to her ArtHaus responsibilities, Lovelace serves as visiting faculty at Luther College teaching Art Education courses through the Department of Fine and Performing Arts.

MARTHA MONSON LOWE, INSTRUCTOR Martha Monson Lowe is a professional basket weaver whose work is influenced by a variety of life experiences, including living in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa as a teenager, her background in anthropology and archaeology, and by her husband George Lowe’s pottery vessels. She loves spending time at their Washington Cascades cabin, hiking and cross country skiing. Martha is a graduate of Luther College and returned to Decorah after 20 years by way of Kansas, Florida, and Washington.

BEN MOORE, INSTRUCTOR Ben attended Luther College majoring in Art and receiving his BA degree in 2002. Studying painting and drawing, with a secondary focus in printmaking, at the University of Iowa, Ben completing his MA degree in 2005 and his MFA in 2006. He also studied printmaking and drawing at the Scuola Internationale de Grafica in Venice, Italy. After teaching as faculty at the University of Iowa and Kirkwood Community College, Ben finds himself full-circle as an Assistant Professor of Art at Luther College teaching painting, drawing, and new media. His work has been exhibited at Arizona State University, Grain Belt Artist Collective in Minneapolis, the Foxtax Gallery Minneapolis, and various other institutions throughout the US.

ALYSSA RITTER, INSTRUCTOR Alyssa Ritter is a 2011 graduate of Luther College where she studied Art and Social Work. She loves integrating creative projects into her daily life and work, including photography and making artwork out of recycled and upcycled materials. For several years she served as the art director at summer camp for children in Ferryville, WI. In addition to teaching youth visual art classes, Alyssa heads the ArtHaus Art for a Cause workshop. Outside of ArtHaus, Alyssa can be found working in the Admission Department at Luther College and volunteering at The Clay Studio.

JULIE STROM HENDRICKSON, INSTRUCTOR A graduate of Luther College, Julie has taught photography courses at Luther for over a decade. She started exploring photography at a young age learning camera skills both from her mother, an art teacher, and the local 4-H program. When she was 16, Julie’s father built a darkroom in the basement of their home, further fueling her love for photography. Julie lives and works just outside of Decorah.

JIM TRIPP, INSTRUCTOR Jim has been teaching foreign language since graduating from Luther College in 2004. For the last few years, Jim has strayed from the traditional grammar study method of language learning, opting instead for an approach that seeks to immerse students in compelling, comprehensible languagethrough conversation and storytelling.

KRISTEN UNDERWOOD, DIRECTOR OF UPSTART CROW THEATREWORKS, CO-DIRECTOR OF ARTHAUS Kristen Underwood has been a theatre professional for over twenty-five years. She earned her BFA from the University of Colorado/Boulder, and her MFA from San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theatre. As an actor and director, Kristen has been involved in over one hundred productions for professional theatre companies around the country, in addition to teaching theatre for CU/Boulder and Luther College, among others. After ten years as a managing Core Artist and Director of Education for the Commonweal Theatre Company, Kristen founded Upstart Crow Theatreworks in 2002 and ArtHaus with Lea Lovelace in 2008.

LAURIE WALTER, INSTRUCTOR Laurie’s love of dance started during her first ballet class at the age of nine. She began her own teaching experience at fourteen, organizing and teaching ballet and jazz classes in her hometown. Laurie graduated from Luther College with a BA in dance and has spent the last seven years studying, choreographing, and instructing dance in Austin, Texas. She is excited to be back in Decorah with her husband Jarrad, her daughter Kera, and her son Davis.

PINE WILSON, INSTRUCTOR Pine Wilson fell head-over-heels for Eastern European folk dancing in the early 1990’s, and has since traveled to festivals and workshops throughout the Midwest, from coast to coast, and to Bulgaria pursuing her passion. Pine has been teaching international dancing in the Decorah area, both privately and in schools, festivals, and celebrations, since 1992 and is an instrumentalist with the widely known Baltic band, Maritza.

KINDRA WINDISH Kindra Windish grew up dancing in her parent’s backyard. After graduating from the backyard and the University of Oregon, Kindra received her Masters in Dance and Dance Education from NYU. In New York and Los Angeles she has danced for Douglas Dunn, Holly Johnston, Christopher Williams, and Kriota Willberg. Kindra has taught dance in studios, private and public schools, colleges, community centers and summer intensives. Kindra, her trumpet blowin’ husband, and two sons moved to Decorah this fall.
