Since I have been a good student, they might agree to give me a recommenda- tion so I can appear for the entrance. Modern School, Barakhamba ith a percentage like mine, there is Wno chance for a good college. I had hoped to pursue B Com (Hons), but the results completely shocked me. Since the honours cut-offs rarely go below 80s, I have no option but to try for B com (pass) in second-rung colleges. But, since I was good at dance and dramatics in school, I stand a chance in the extra-curricular activities quota. I am planning to try in Hindu. But I am not too sure since I don’t have national level certificates. My parents were obviously not too happy about the results. My dad wanted me to sit for the National Law College in Bangalore, but I was not interested. The second option is that I join B Com (Hons) through correspondence, do ex- tremely well in the first year and then migrate to a good college like Hindu or Ramjas. I am also thinking of a course in a private institute like Amity or Rai Foundation. In the long run, I am look- ing at doing my MBA, because that is an evergreen degree. But I would prefer DU because it offers a fuller life with all the fests and fashion shows. That would also give me an opportunity to try modelling. ● 50-60 per cent Really, no hope for me Nupur Bhargava (60 per cent, commerce), hen the result came, I was shocked. Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan WI realised it left me with almost no option. I had expected above 80 per cent. I have given papers for re-evaluation, but I don’t know if that will help or if it will come in time for DU admissions. I am appearing for the BBS entrance. Earlier, I wasn’t too serious. But now I realise I have few options and am work- ing hard. I have also applied for bachelor of financial investment analysis in DU. The other option is joining the corre- spondence course in B Com (H) and then migrating to a college. I will also keep some DU options op- tions. Govt may hike offer size in Maruti IPO

TIMES NEWS NETWORK New Delhi: The govern- ment is planning to divest an additional 10 per cent equity in Maruti Udyog Ltd in the initial public of- fering slated to open June 12. This will bring down the government holding in the country’s largest car maker to 10 per cent from 45 per cent now. ‘‘In case the issue is oversubscribed, we have the option of divesting an additional 10 per cent in the company and retain the over-subscription. This is an option that we are looking at and a final decision will be taken only after the launch of the IPO,’’ Naresh Narad, sec- retary, department of heavy industries told me- diapersons at the launch of the roadshow for the IPO in Delhi. The government, which has already bought the 0.5 per cent employee holding in Maruti for Rs 115 a share, initially intended to offer 25 per cent of its holding in the company. The IPO is for 7.2 crore shares of Rs five each and the floor price has been set at Rs 115 per share. “This offer size may be hiked by another 10 per cent,” Narad added. For the remaining stake, he said, the govern- ment may either look at selling it off to Suzuki four months after the IPO or go for a second round of public offer after the one- year lock-in period. Meanwhile, addressing the media, Osamu Suzuki, chairman and CEO of Suzuki Motor Corp, which owns 55 per cent equity in Maruti, said the Japanese auto maker will continue to launch small cars in In- dia to strengthen its lead- ership position and ex- pand its share in the grow- ing domestic small car market. Maruti, he said, will also start exporting cars to southeast Asia on its own, besides using the Suzuki network for the European markets. “Maruti is en- hancing its focus on ex- ports. Lanka mulls over LTTE demands: Sri Lanka’s beleaguered government was Saturday Militants vow mulling how to respond to Tamil Tiger guerrillas who rejected the latest offer to revive stalled peace talks, officials said. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s government was expected to give a response to Friday’s categorical rejection of greater financial authority in exchange for re- to resist Pak entering peace talks, officials said. They said government peace negotiators were studying the four-page rebel letter and a formal response could be expected early next week. The LTTE said a bid to shut fresh proposal sent to them Tuesday by the government through peace broker Norway was insuffi- cient to revive the stalled peace bid. AFP terror camps Muzaffarabad: Pakistan- based militants vowed on Saturday to resist Islam- abad’s efforts to close their offices in Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir. Leaders of several militant groups said Pakistan had giv- en them until May 31 to close down offices in PoK, a move seen as part of Pakistan’s ef- forts to mend ties with India. “There is a consensus, so far, among the mujahideen groups that they would not leave the base camp,” a mili- tant group member said be- fore a meeting of anti-Indian groups in Muzaffarabad, cap- ital of PoK. Militants said Pakistani authorities were trying to stop them crossing a the LOC, for the first time in years. The move was a be- trayal of their cause, they said. “Since early April, mu- jahideen are not being al- lowed to cross the LOC,” an official of the outlawed Pak- istan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba group said. Meanwhile, Maulana Ma- sood Azhar, leader of a mili- tant group accused of the 2001 Indian parliament at- tack, was barred from ad- dressing a party conference in Peshawar by Pakistani au- thorities. He later addressed a gathering and hailed Al- Qaida chief Osama bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Omar as “he- roes of muslim world”. Azhar, who has re-named his banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Muhammad as Kud- dam-ul-Islam, was barred from addressing Deefa-e-Is- lam conference organised by his party on Friday at Press club in Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan’s volatile North West Frontier Province, on the grounds that his party has been banned. Agencies Intelligence reports fuel Indian doubts on Pak efforts By Mohua Chatterjee TIMES NEWS NETWORK New Delhi: The Vajpayee government is cynical about Pakistani President Mushar- raf ’s new announcement that he would close down militant camps in PoK. Government sources say this is not the first time that the move has been ordered. It’s a routine exercise to show US and India, that it is taking steps to curb cross- border terrorism. So the gov- ernment is following the sit- uation closely. The reason is simple: The ground situation based on the latest intelligence reports with the home ministry says: ● Five active new ‘‘launch camps’’ have come up along the LoC. ● The ISI has opened vari- ous training camps on a large plot of land in Muridke, an area close to Muzafarrabad in the PoK. ● New ‘‘launch camps’’ have come up in the Hasan region in the forward Kahuta area in Nakiyal, Khoi Ratta, Samahni, Dhali Bagh areas. ● Recruits or mercenaries have direct instructions from the ISI to get themselves in- ducted without any ‘‘pre-ac- tivities’’. ● There are strict instruc- tions from an ISI command- er, identified as Brigadier Nasir Hussain, who is also the director of Operations, Kashmir Wing, in the ISI, that the infiltrators should remain covert. ● The fresh recruits are being taken care of by an or- ganisation called the Refugee Management Centre. ● The instructions are that they must not stay in the ‘‘screen posts,’’ they should not ‘‘make any reconnais- sance movements along the LoC’’ and that they should be ‘‘sent on a checked-and-con- trolled manner’’ and most importantly there should be ‘‘no covering fire from Pak- istani forces for these men when they are crossing over’’. ● The same instructions have reportedly been passed onto the chairman of the Muttahida Jehadi Council (MJC) which has also been coordinating terrorist activities. ● The camps area is cov- ered with tall trees. A sign- board of Lashkar-e-Taiba has been put up right at the en- trance of the area. ● Apart from LeT, Hizbul Mujahadeen, Jaish-e-Mo- hammad, Hurriat-ul-Jehadi- Islam camps are also there.
