6 TV 15 Highlights 180 DAYS: A YEAR INSIDE AN AMERICAN SCHOOL Monday-Tuesday, March 25-26 • 9pm

This special gives space and breadth to our nation’s education reform debate by giving the audi- ence a first-hand view of what happens in a school that meets the needs of the most challenged students in new and sometimes non-traditional ways. Observe a tireless team of teachers and school leaders dealing with the usual antics of teenagers and the changing tides of a fast-moving administration that is responding to pressures from outside partners, politicians and forces in the community. IMPACT Future Radio Highlights MUSIC FOR ALL THAT MARCH BRINGS • WHRO FM March is also full of celebration and beginnings. Daylight Saving Time begins on the 10th, so we can enjoy the warming evenings. St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th will be celebrated by jigs and the wearin’ o’ the green. Spring arrives on the morning of the 20th, with its promise of new life and re-awakening. March 21st is recognized as the birthday of J.S. Bach, always a cause for celebration. And the religious holidays of Palm Sunday, Passover and Easter come this month, with their attendant rituals. What better way to observe these occasions than with music? Tune in to WHRO-FM to hear great music for these and other events that come to us in March.

CELTIC CONNECTIONS • SUNDAYS AT 11PM • WHRV FM With Saint Patrick’s Day arriving on March 17th, we have the perfect program to get you in the mood! Celtic Connections offers a wide variety of traditional and contemporary music associated with the western European lands occupied at one time or another by people of the Celtic tribes and their descendants, including Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, and Galicia, as well as Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and other parts of North America. Host Bryan Kelso Crow plays new releases as well as clas- sics, along with the occasional concert performance. Celtic Connections is heard Sundays at 11pm on WHRV 89.5.

MONDAY MORNING MARCH • MONDAYS AT 9AM • WHRO FM It’s March – so we’re going to do just that on WHRO 90.3, as we unveil a new feature: the Monday Morning March. Start your day and week off on the right foot (and then the left) with marches of all sorts. We’ll offer up all sorts of double time treats: marches for students, trolls, puppets, priests and soldiers, both wooden and real; marches by the masters, like Tchaikovsky, Verdi and Wagner; marches by the March King, John Philip Sousa. Tune in each Monday just before 9am for our Monday Morning March. The festivities begin - when else? - on March Fo(u)rth on WHRO-FM, WHRJ and WHRF!

HAMPTON’S HIDDEN HISTORY • WEDNESDAYS AT 6:33AM ON WHRV FM AND AT 3PM ON WHRO FM Since 1610, Hampton has played a pivotal and crucial role in America’s freedom story. It is the geographical location where the institution of slavery began in America, and 250 years later, in 1861, where it began to die. During this 26 segment series, we will celebrate the names behind courageous acts little known in mainstream history. Because much of it happened in and to our enslaved population and because of our geographical location in the center of the Eastern Seaboard, our temperate climate gave rise to the first economic engine of European America, agriculture. It would not have been possible with- out an enslaved population.

2012 was a banner, trophy and award-winning year at Atlantic Shores Retirement Community. From winning the March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction People’s Choice Award (see our happy chefs below!) to being named the Southside’s Best Retirement Community by Hampton Roads Magazine – and many more awards in between – the accolades kept our spirits soaring. But they also served to keep us grounded. Because while winning awards is nice, and while some of them may not seem as important as others, there is a bigger story here. The way we see it, getting recognition for so many things we do, big or small, points to our commitment to do all things well. For Atlantic Shores residents, that comes as no surprise. But for other folks who are at or near retirement, our skills and attention to detail across the board should speak volumes. So whether it’s our outstanding cuisine, a well-designed website, a national award for our executive director, or a public relations campaign for our guide-dog program, you know we approach everything with care, with enthusiasm and with love. If that sounds like a place where you’d enjoy making a new home, and with it total independence, freedom and the comfort of ownership that are unique to Atlantic Shores, plan a visit soon. And while our tours haven’t won an award yet, we’re working on it.
