1. NEW 2017 Revision Guides

Revision Guides for the four new subjects of the Year 12 SACE Mathematics curriculum are being finalised right now. New content but same old price!

It is essential that MASA receives your order by Friday 10th March.

Revision Guide Order Form (click here)

Make use of SACE As many will be aware, there has been a major restructuring of the SACE Senior Mathematic Curriculum starting in 2017. MASA is rewriting the Revision Guides to align with the new content and also presenting year 12 workshops to assist teachers through the requirements. The SACE website www.sace.sa.edu.au can be a source of useful information. We recommend the subject outlines.

And speaking of recycling… We still have some stocks of the 2015 and 2016 Revision guides which, while not entirely in line on a subject by subject basis, still contain excellent exercises and examples to help with lesson plans. We can supply Mathematics Applications, Mathematical Studies and Specialist Mathematics Revision Guides for the low price of $10.00 each. Contact the MASA office for more details: [email protected]

What are you wasting for?

Why are you wasting resources instead of using the long-lasting and refillable Aus-Pens? Choose the economical and environmentally sound white board markers available through MASA.

Ron and Carol Moule from Carron Calculators have decided to donate all of the proceeds of the sales of Auspens to MASA for provision of professional development for teachers of mathematics in SA. You can order them directly from MASA. For an order form please (click here).

If you have used these Eco-friendly pens you will know they last forever, because they can be refilled! If you have not used them, check out the information sheet (click here), and consider giving them a try in your school!

You might also consider sharing the information with other faculties in your school and also with your school bursar – they MUST be impressed with the potential savings, as one set of 6 pens with ink will last at least a year…!!

MASA has been approached by teachers from schools where students have inadequate access to up- to-date and properly functioning graphics calculators, a necessary appliance for success in senior maths.

It occurs to us that our MASA connections may have some older model, good condition, used graphics calculators they could donate to a good cause, or sell for a low price. Those wishing to acquire or donate graphics calculators are encouraged to contact the MASA office by phone on 08 8362 4332, fax 08 8363 9002 or email [email protected], and we will do our best to co-ordinate. School visits from engineering professionals!

SPE-SA would like to support you in encouraging STEM based learning. Our keen volunteers would appreciate the opportunity to speak to your Year 9 to 12 students about the engineering profession.

To arrange a school visit, please email your contact details to [email protected]

A wealth of energy education resources are also available at www.energy4me.org to assist teachers

Who is SPE?

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit, professional organisation with 168,000 members worldwide. The local South Australian Section (SPE-SA) has 500 members and is run by a team of enthusiastic volunteers. SPE’s vision is to enable the sharing of technical knowledge amongst its members, to meet the world’s growing energy needs, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

As part of our commitment to the local community, SPE-SA actively supports the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based learning. We see this as an investment in the next generation of talented students who will become South ’s future engineers and leaders.

SPE-SA has been an avid supporter of MASA for the past two decades, through sponsorship of the School Mathematics Competition. Over the past 30 years our volunteers have also been actively engaged with the broader community via school visits, organisation of student / teacher workshops and Science Alive!

Proving that too much is never enough, in late 2016, Year 11 student, Karan Loomba, was crowned Australian record holder for reciting 10533 digits of Pi.

This amazing feat, places Karan 21st in the world. Well done Karan!
