The four total games this season was just one off of tying the school record of five that Montez’s predecessor, Sefo Liufau, set in 2014 (Koy Detmer had four in 1996). When analyzing Montez by down, his stats were consistent: Down Att-Com-Int Pct. Yards att. comp. That was CU’s conversion percentage on 3rd-&-4, or 11-of-16, the best percentage on any down other than first in 2017 (which was 79.3, 23-of-29). It was also the best percentage in any situation of 3rd-&-3 or longer since 2010, when the Buffs were 9-of-13 (69.2) on 3rd-&-4; then you have to go back to 2004, when CU was also 9-of-13 on 3rd-&-4. In 2016, CU’s best down with four or more yards to go was on 3rd-&-6 plays, when the Buffs were 9-of-17 (or 52.9 percent). The benchmark in this stat remains in 1989, when the Buffs were 30-of-30 on 3rd-&-1 and didn’t’ miss until the Orange Bowl (which if replay had existed, wouldn’t have happened then, either). TWO SET TO TRANSFER Two players have been granted releases to transfer, sophomore WR Johnny Huntley and senior WR Lee Walker. In Walker’s case, he is graduating this week and can go to any school that offers a major field of study that CU doesn’t offer. Both saw very limited action at their position but were on several special team units. 2017 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (5-7, 2-7 Pac-12) 2017 Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That or ’16 rewind Sept. 1 RV Colorado State (N; Denver) NR PAC12 W 17- 3 7-6 65-22-2 Buffs go up 17-0 early, play first scoreless second half in eight seasons SEPT. 9 RV TEXAS STATE NR PAC12 W 37- 3 2-9 1- 0-0 Second straight game not allowing a TD a first to open a season since 1958 SEPT. 16 RV NORTHERN COLORADO NR PAC12 W 41-21 3-7 10- 2-0 CU wins first meeting with former in-state rival since 1934 game in Greeley SEPT. 23 RV WASHINGTON (N) 7 FS-1 L 10-37 10-3 5-11-1 Game plays out eerily similar to ’16 Pac-12 title game, as UW pulls away in 3Q Sept. 30 RV at UCLA NR ESPN2 L 23-27 6-7 3-10-0 Fourth straight tight game between the two (the four decided by 21 points) OCT. 7 NR ARIZONA (N; FW) NR PAC12 L 42-45 7-6 14- 6-0 Teams combine for 713 rush yards, record 608 by two players (Lindsay: 281) Oct. 14 NR at Oregon State NR PAC12 W 36-33 1-11 5- 5-0 Montez leads 9-play, 82-yard drive for winning score with 1:34 remaining Oct. 21 NR at Washington State (N) 15 ESPN L 0-28 9-4 6- 5-0 Buffs shutout for first time since 2012 (60 games); Lindsay goes over 1K rushing OCT. 28 NR CALIFORNIA (HC) NR PAC12 W 44-28 5-7 4- 5-0 Montez throws for 347 yards and 3 TDs, adds fourth on ground Nov. 4 NR at Arizona State (N) NR PAC12 L 30-41 7-6 1- 8-0 Buffs led for most of the game (nearly 48 minutes), only to see ASU rally late NOV. 11 NR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 15 FOX L 24-38 11-3 0-12-0 Last two games: first half, USC 34-0; second half, CU 41-25 as Trojans prevail Nov. 25 NR at Utah (N) NR FS-1 L 13-34 7-6 32-29-3 Utes take 5-2 lead since both join Pac-12; first 6 games were decided by 32 points (KEY: *—AP rank at time of game; —Pac-12 Conference game; N—Night game; HC—Homecoming; FW—Family Weekend.) 2017 COLORADO FOOTBALL The Media Page Page 2 obtain head shots of all CU coaches and athletes as well COLORADO MEDIA SERVICES PRONUNCIATION GUIDE as action shots of key players.
