All post-competition press conferences will be held on course following the event.

CLIMATE & HEALTH Weather, terrain and altitude make covering X Games a unique experience as compared to other sporting events. Be advised, media members should take the proper precautions to ensure their safety and enjoyment during the event.

Temperature Variability The weather in Aspen can vary greatly, with temperatures often dipping to single digits at night. Therefore, all persons in attendance are best served to dress accordingly and wear multiple clothing layers including thermals, fl eece, jacket, as well as wool socks, gloves and some type of head covering.

Footwear Often overlooked, footwear plays an integral role in not only a person’s maneuverability, but warmth and comfort as well. Individuals spending long periods of time on their feet should consider bringing additional footwear to change into to prevent fatigue. Also, when socks become soiled they tend to fl atten out and don’t insulate as well, so it may be a good idea to carry an extra pair at all times.

Altitude The base elevation at Aspen Snowmass is approximately 8,000 feet above sea level. As a result, there is less oxygen and humidity available than at lower elevations, which may end up causing one or more of the following conditions: nausea, insomnia, diarrhea, constipation, gas, restlessness, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, headache, nasal congestion, cough and/or fatigue.

Minor conditions typically dissipate after becoming acclimated to the environment. To minimize high altitude e’ ects, take the following precautions: 1. Minimize physical exertion until acclimated 2. Utilize humidifi ers 3. Stay hydrated, don’t overeat – start drinking more water than you are used to a week before arriving 4. Get plenty of sleep 5. Listen to your body

Sunscreen Despite the fact that Aspen Snowmass may be covered in snow, the high altitude also means increased exposure to the sun. At high altitude there are higher concentrations of ultraviolet rays. Wear sunscreen and reapply often. UV-protected sunglasses and/or goggles are also recommended.

HOST Jack Mitrani (@JackMitrani) Jack Mitrani is one of snowboarding’s most popular personalities. After spending 12 years as a competitive snowboarder, he translated his talents into a career that celebrates his entrepreneurial and vivacious spirit. 29 ATHLETES TO WATCH

SKI WOMEN’S SUPERPIPE Cassie Sharpe (Comox, British Columbia, Canada) The reigning Olympic champion in women’s ski halfpipe took her second X Games gold last year in Aspen after winning bronze the previous year. After winning Olympic gold in PyeongChang and clinching the AFP Crystal Globe for halfpipe, Sharpe says one of her highlights was meeting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Athleticism runs in the Sharpe family; Cassie’s brother Darcy will be competing in Snowboard Slopestyle in Aspen this year, as well.

JEEP WOMEN’S SLOPESTYLE, SUPERPIPE & BIG AIR Kelly Sildaru (Tallinn, Estonia) Hailing from a land with no real mountains, Sildaru is already a skiing phenom. At X Games Aspen 2016, Sildaru became the youngest X Games gold medalist ever at a winter event at the time, taking gold in Ski Slopestyle at just 13 years old. She returned in 2017 to defend her title in Slopestyle and take a silver medal in Big Air at X Games Norway, before a knee injury took her out of competition leading into the Olympic season in 2018. Sildaru returned in 2019 stronger than ever, taking three medals, including two golds, in less than 24 hours when she added SuperPipe to the mix.

GREAT CLIPS MEN’S SKI SUPERPIPE Alex Ferreira (Aspen, Colorado) After an already incredible 2018, Aspen native Alex Ferreira took the medal that perhaps means the most to him – SuperPipe gold at X Games Aspen 2019. Ferreira took silver at both X Games Aspen 2018 and at the PyeongChang Olympics. The success brought publicity – he made an appearance on Dr. Oz, was a guest at an Oscar party with Elton John, attended the New York Gold Medal Gala with his grandfather and even gave the commencement speech at his old school, Aspen High. With fi ve medals in eight appearances, the high energy, charismatic Ferreira has a history of stepping up at X Games, and he’ll have roughly 50 family and friends in the fi nish corral cheering him on.

JEEP MEN’S SKI SLOPESTYLE & THE REAL COST BIG AIR Alex Beaulieu-Marchand (Quebec City, Quebec, Canada) Known for his creative grabs and spins, “ABM” also has the stellar rail skills typical of so many Québécois skiers. 2020 marks ABM’s ninth X Games appearance, after taking silver in both Ski Slopestyle and Big Air in 2019. ABM also followed up with a bronze at X Games Norway 2019 and earned slopestyle bronze at the in PyeongChang.

30 ATHLETES TO WATCH

THE REAL COST MEN’S SKI BIG AIR Birk Ruud (, Norway) After taking gold in Big Air in a major upset at X Games Norway 2019 where he edged out Henrik Harlaut, 18-year-old Norwegian Birk Ruud doubled down and defended his title at X Games Aspen 2019. When he won in front of his hometown in Oslo, he became the third youngest Men’s Ski Big Air gold medalist. Ruud has been the youngest athlete on the Big Air roster every year he’s competed since Oslo 2016, and he’s the youngest again in 2020.

SNOWBOARD

MONSTER ENERGY MEN’S SUPERPIPE Scotty James (Warrandyte, Australia) Scotty raised the boxing gloves in 2017, fi ghting his way to his fi rst SuperPipe gold and following up with a silver in 2018 at what analyst Craig McMorris called the “best halfpipe contest ever.” James came back in 2019 stronger than ever and took gold in the discipline, using his third and victory run to high-fi ve spectators on both sides of the pipe. His riding has improved dramatically in the past few years, and his amplitude and technicality earned him bronze at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, as well.

JEEP MEN’S SNOWBOARD SLOPESTYLE, THE REAL COST BIG AIR & WENDY’S KNUCKLE HUCK Rene Rinnekangas (Iisalmi, Finland) Finnish ripper Rene Rinnekangas earned silver in Slopestyle at X Games Aspen 2019, his fi rst medal in just his second appearance, after capping o’ his best run with a massive frontside 1440 melon and backside triple cork 1620 mute. Rene is quickly becoming known for his streetstyle skills (he won the Dew Tour’s streetstyle event in December 2018) and is also a strong all-around rider – one of a very small handful of riders who compete in Slopestyle, Big Air, and Halfpipe events. He says video parts are a bigger priority than contests, and he’s been fi lming both street and backcountry parts.

JEEP MEN’S SNOWBOARD SLOPESTYLE, THE REAL COST BIG AIR, RAIL JAM & WENDY’S KNUCKLE HUCK Mark McMorris (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada) McMorris has been one of snowboarding’s leading men since taking double gold in X Games Slopestyle and Big Air in 2012. He repeated the feat in 2015, becoming the second snowboarder in history to earn double gold at a single X Games, twice. He has now earned medals in an incredible 17 of 22 X Games starts, including eight gold. His most recent medals include a gold in Slopestyle and silver in Big Air at X Games Aspen 2019. All of this is almost miraculous given some of the serious injuries he’s endured, including a near-fatal crash in the British Columbia backcountry in March 2017; he has a seemingly superhuman ability to bounce back from big hits.

31 ATHLETES TO WATCH

WOMEN’S SNOWBOARD SUPERPIPE Maddie Mastro (Wrightwood, California) At just 18 years of age, Mastro has o¨ cially earned her spot on the top tier of women’s halfpipe snowboarding. She trains with the Mammoth Mountain team as well as the U.S. Snowboard team and has become a podium regular. Maddie has found increased amplitude and consistency this year, and will be one of the women bringing doubles to competition in 2020; she learned a double crippler in the lead-up to the season. Watch for her rescue dogs Archie, Beasley and Zody at the bottom of the X Games SuperPipe.

JEEP WOMEN’S SNOWBOARD SLOPESTYLE & PACIFICO BIG AIR Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (Wanaka, New Zealand) 17-year-old Zoi Sadowski-Synnott earned Big Air bronze at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics after a string of podiums on the FIS World Cup circuit in 2017, going on to earn two medals, including Slopestyle gold, at X Games Aspen in 2019. The young Kiwi rider was named 2017 Snowboarder of the Year and Athlete of the Year by Snow Sports NZ, and that was before she ended New Zealand’s 26-year medal drought at the Winter Olympics. Now she’s a national hero.

PACIFICO WOMEN’S SNOWBOARD BIG AIR Kokomo Murase (Gifu, Japan) Kokomo became the youngest athlete ever to earn gold (or any medal) in an X Games winter discipline when she landed a fi rst-in-women’s-competition backside double cork 1260 at X Games Norway 2018. She was just 13 years, 6 months old at the time. She comes from a family of snowboarders – both her parents and her sister also compete in Japan – and lives a few hours south of the Toyama Kings airbag jump training facility, where she’s been training since age 12. She missed Aspen 2019 with an injury, but returned to X Games Norway 2019 to take silver.

SNOWMOBILE & SNOW BIKE

SNOWMOBILE FREESTYLE & SNOW BIKE BEST TRICK Brett Turcotte (Clearwater, BC, Canada) A SnoCross racer turned freestyler turned snow bike rider, Brett Turcotte took silver in both Snowmobile Freestyle and Snow Bike Best Trick at X Games Aspen 2019. In 2018, the snowmobile lifer from Clearwater, British Columbia took gold in Snowmobile Freestyle and Best Trick, but also competed in Snow Bike Best Trick, where he took fi fth. In February 2016, he became the fi rst to land a backfl ip on a snow bike, riding with a stock kit in the British Columbia backcountry.

32 ATHLETES TO WATCH

SNOW BIKE BEST TRICK Rob Adelberg (Benalla, Victoria, Australia) Rob Adelberg fl oated largely under the radar until 2018, when he became the fi rst athlete in history to earn fi ve X Games medals in one calendar year. He started his streak in Aspen, capturing a surprise gold in Snow Bike Best Trick. He book-ended the year with Moto X Best Trick gold in Sydney. His success comes from front fl ip variations in Moto X Best Trick and body varials in Snow Bike. A member of the large and dominant Australian freestyle motocross posse, Adelberg loves to compete. In 2019, he successfully defended in Snow Bike Best Trick at X Games Aspen, earned Shanghai silver in Moto X Best Trick, took gold in Freestyle at X Games Minneapolis and silver in Best Trick at X Games Norway.

WENDY’S SNOW BIKECROSS Cody Matechuk (Cochrane, , Canada) An X Games rookie in 2018, Cody knew if he didn’t podium at X Games Aspen, he would be back working a dreaded drilling rig. He went all in, pulled out the win and isn’t looking back – defending his title in 2019, too. Snow bike riding and racing is a perfect combo of everything the 24-year old Canadian loves, including dirt bike and street bike racing. Filming in the backcountry is his passion, including Japan, where he fi lmed Traxx 4 in 2018 with X Games medalist, rival and friend, Brock Hoyer.

35 X GAMES SHRED HATE

In 2016, ESPN and X Games launched Shred Hate, a bullying prevention program that aims to increase awareness about the bullying epidemic and actually reduce bullying in schools.

Why Bullying? • Nearly 1 in 4 students report being bullied during the school year. That’s 10 million students that are bullied each year in our country. • Sports can be both a cause and a refuge from bullying. Taunting and name-calling on the fi eld and in the locker room has long been a source of bullying. • However, action sports can be a positive avenue for athletes who may not fi t into traditional team sports.

The Program ESPN, X Games and MLB have teamed up with No Bully to provide an innovative bullying prevention curriculum to schools across the country, including X Games host communities. School leaders are coached in the methods to lead culture change and sustain a learning environment where all students are included.

Since the program began four years ago, over 13,000 students and 1,700 school sta’ members in Colorado alone have been impacted through the program. In total, nearly 13,000 school sta’ members have been trained in the Shred Hate program, infl uencing over 116,000 students across 12 markets nationwide (Boston, Chicago, Colorado, Connecticut, Dallas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C).
