Explanatory Notes for Development Assessment Local Heritage Register Amendments to the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, Schedule 8 and 8A of the Integrated Planning Act 1997, the Integrated Planning Regulation 1998, and the Queensland Heritage Regulation 2003 became effective on 31 March 2008. All aspects of development on a Local Heritage Place in a Local Heritage Register under the Queensland Heritage Act 1992, are code assessable (unless City Plan 2000 requires impact assessment). Those code assessable applications are assessed against the Code in Schedule 2 of the Queensland Heritage Regulation 2003 and the Heritage Place Code in City Plan 2000. City Plan 2000 makes some aspects of development impact assessable on the site of a Heritage Place and a Heritage Precinct. Heritage Places and Heritage Precincts are identified in the Heritage Register of the Heritage Register Planning Scheme Policy in City Plan 2000. Those impact assessable applications are assessed under the relevant provisions of the City Plan 2000. All aspects of development on land adjoining a Heritage Place or Heritage Precinct are assessable solely under City Plan 2000. ********** For building work on a Local Heritage Place assessable against the Building Act 1975, the Local Government is a concurrence agency. ********** Amendments to the Local Heritage Register are located at the back of the Register. It includes buildings and sites known to be at risk from T neglect, decay or inappropriate development, helping to focus advice and support where it’s most needed. In London there are 683 sites on our Heritage at Risk Register – everything from the remains of a medieval moated manor house in Bromley, to a 1950s concrete sculpture on the Great West Road. Finding solutions to these sites isn’t easy, but we’re grateful for the support of all those who work tirelessly to protect our historic environment. Your efforts have helped to secure the future of 96% of buildings that appeared in our first published Register in 1991.

  • I Have Attached a Photo of the 1962
Page 14 Vol 49 The RSL and Christmas. Each year the Kedron Wavell Sub-Branch of the RSL gives out about 150 Christmas Hampers (see below) to elderly ex-service men and women who are members of that branch. Although this is a very generous and thoughtful thing for the sub-Branch to do, not a lot of people realise the amount of work that goes on in the background to enable it to happen. Preparation usually takes a week. It all starts by going through the list of elderly members and cataloguing the probable list of recipients into males and females (there are some items in the hamper that are different for men and women) then when that is done the shopping list is prepared and out go the buyers to get 150 chocolates, 150 Christmas puddings, 150 shortcakes, pens, soap, tooth paste etc and then 150 bags in which to hold the “goodies”. When all the items are purchased, they must be loaded into the bags and individually stored in male and female lots, the female bags have a pink ribbon tied to the handles. Then all the recipients’ addresses are catalogued into areas so the delivery people can go from one to the other seamlessly and not have to travel back and forth, here there and everywhere, after which each recipient is rung and a date/time for the delivery is agreed upon to ensure the recipients will be home to accept the hamper. It’s a lot of work, and it takes a big army of people to do it and each year a bunch of wonderful (current) year 11 kids from 4 local schools (Mt Alvernia College, Padua College, Kedron State High and Craigslea State High) give up about a week of their annual holiday and under the guidance of the Pres, Greg Peake, toss in and do the lot.

The University of Queensland Archaeological Services Unit Report No. 423b Cultural Heritage Report for the Proposed Northern Link Project Report to Sinclair Knight Merz Connell Wagner Joint Venture Jon Prangnell PhD, Karen Murphy BA(Hons), Tam Smith MA and Linda Terry BA(Hons) School of Social Science The University Of Queensland Brisbane Q 4072 September 2008 Executive Summary This report details the results of the cultural heritage investigations undertaken of the Northern Link Project area (henceforth known as the Study Area). The University of Queensland Archaeological Services Unit (UQASU) was contracted by the Sinclair Knight Merz Connell Wagner Joint Venture on behalf of Brisbane City Council to undertake a study of the existing cultural heritage values of the proposed Northern Link route. This report details the results of studies of both the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cultural heritage places within the Study Area and the likely impacts and mitigation measures required. It is based on existing knowledge, registers and reports of the Study Area, community consultation, survey reports produced by the relevant Aboriginal Parties and surveys of standing structures conducted between October and December 2007. The Study Area consists of a corridor that traverses the inner western suburbs of Brisbane from Toowong in the west to Kelvin Grove in the east, taking in parts of the suburbs of Auchenflower, Bardon, Bowen Hills, Brisbane City (Petrie Terrace), Fortitude Valley, Herston, Kelvin Grove, Milton, Mount Coot-tha, Paddington, Red Hill, Spring Hill, Taringa and Toowong. For the purposes of the Cultural Heritage Study, a 300m buffer was applied around the Study Area to ensure that all places that may be affected by the proposed development were captured in the study.

PUBLISHED FAMILY HISTORIES [Over the years The Fife Family History Society Journal has reviewed many published Fife family histories. We have gathered them all together here, and will add to the file as more become available. Many of the family histories are hard to find, but some are still available on the antiquarian market. Others are available as Print on Demand; while a few can be found as Google books] GUNDAROO (1972) By Errol Lea-Scarlett, tells the story of the settlement of the Township of Gundaroo in the centre of the Yass River Valley of NSW, AUS, and the families who built up the town. One was William Affleck (1836-1923) from West Wemyss, described as "Gundaroo's Man of Destiny." He was the son of Arthur Affleck, grocer at West Wemyss, and Ann Wishart, and encourged by letters from the latter's brother, John (Joseph Wiseman) Wishart, the family emigrated to NSW late in October 1854 in the ship, "Nabob," with their children, William and Mary, sole survivors of a family of 13, landing at Sydney on 15 February 1855. The above John Wishart, alias Joseph Wiseman, the son of a Fife merchant, had been convicted of forgery in 1839 and sentenced to 14 years transportation to NSW. On obtaining his ticket of leave in July 1846, he took the lease of the Old Harrow, in which he established a store - the "Caledonia" - and in 1850 added to it a horse-powered mill at Gundaroo some 18 months later. He was the founder of the family's fortunes, and from the 1860s until about 1900 the Afflecks owned most of the commercial buildings in the town.
