FEBRUARY GENERAL MEETING 8pm Wednesday 16th

Preventing and managing bushwalking injuries Speaker: Dr Henry Wajswelner

One of ’s most highly-regarded sports physiotherapists, Dr Henry Wajswelner, will speak on short-term and longer-term prevention and management of injuries in bushwalking. Dr Wajswelner is Chairman of Sports Physiotherapy Australia at the Department of Physical Therapies, Australian Institute of Sport. In addition to being highly experienced and qualified, he is a keen bushwalker himself, so his presentation should be very practical and informative for all age groups and levels of bushwalking enjoyed by club members. Main meeting room, St. John’s Church Hall Constitution Avenue, Reid

EVENING MEAL: The customary pre-meeting evening meal at 6.00pm will not be held. The Vietnam Restaurant where we normally have it has closed and will be reopening soon at a new location. We will advise you as soon as we know.

If you were walking with the club a few years ago you may remember Chris Halliday, a florid, ebullient Irishman with a great enthusiasm for life. Chris was a regular on club trips until about four years ago, when he sold his Canberra business and other assets and headed overseas for a period of extended travel. After eighteen months in Europe, Asia and North America he landed in Ecuador and set up a company based in Quito called The Andes Range. The company initially exported clothing and handicrafts but subsequently expanded its operations to include a backpacker hostel and an adventure tour business. In his spare time, Chris continued to walk and climb and also worked actively on an Andean spectacled bears rescue project. On 13 December 2004, Chris became seriously ill on a tour he was leading and died in hospital.
