Ci siamo davvero sforzati. Con la massima concentrazione. Con la massima convinzione che no, non dovevamo farci distrarre dalla Biennale di Venezia. E che sì, anche in pre- senza di uno speciale sulla Biennale denso di contenuti, dovevamo garantire anche per questo giugno un numero 'normale', ricco come al solito, anzi di più, proprio a causa della super-tiratura che la manifesta- zione veneziana ci ha piacevolemente imposto. Beh ce l'abbiamo fatta. Festeggiamo con tutti i crismi la cifra tonda del quarantesimo onpaper. Con un numero di spessore. In tutti i sensi. Lo speciale sulla Biennale, dicevamo, con approfondimenti sulla storia della kermesse lagunare, con una speculazione intellettuale sul direttore dell'edizione di quest'anno, con interviste agli artisti italiani che vi partecipano e con otto-pagi- ne-otto di impressioni da parte di tutti i protagonisti. E ancora una riflessione - polemica! - sui nuovi padiglioni, una disamina statistica della mostra più importante del mondo, le 'ancore di salvezza' per non mori- re di sola Biennale e per non perdersi la Venezia emblema della storia dell'arte. E con un calendario che può farvi usare questo fascicolo anche come guida, se visiterete la megarassegna durante i mesi estivi. -

GALLERIA POGGIALI MANFREDI BENINATI Sunday 10 December 2039 Critical essay by Sergio Risaliti Vernissage Saturday 22 October 6.00 p.m. 22 October 2016 – 13 December 2016 Via della Scala 35/A and Via Benedetta 3r, Florence Galleria Poggiali is delighted to announce the opening of Sunday 10 December 2039, the first solo show in Florence of Manfredi Beninati (Palermo, 1970), specially designed and created for the Florence gallery. The corpus of the works on show is in fact the result of collaboration between the artist and the gallery that produced them, assisting Beninati at all stages, from the creation of the works through to their realisation. The title of the exhibition is the expression of an imaginary date, an impossible combination according to the Gregorian calendar of day and date. Beninati is making reference to a formulation made in 1968 by the physicist Gabriele Veneziano, considered the father of “string theory” or the “theory of everything”, which posits the existence of parallel worlds extending in different dimensions. This realm of imagination, connected with the passage of time in a spatial dimension, is reflected in the works of the artist where time and space are combined with the power of imagination to create worlds that change depending on who is looking at them. Manfredi Beninati has constructed the exhibition like a cinema set (he attended the Cinecittà school of film and set design) within which he creates instants of interiors, suspended rooms, imaginary situations, rendered through an itinerary that unwinds from the entrance to the gallery amidst ten light boxes, shots originating from the real reconstruction of an imaginary space physically recreated in a part of the gallery. -

MAXXI and Bvlgari support young art talents MAXXI BVLGARI PRIZE Exhibition opens with the artists shortlisted for the 2018 edition Talia Chetrit, Invernomuto and Diego Marcon 1 June – 28 October 2018 www.maxxi.art | www.bulgari.com | #MAXXIBulgariPrize Rome, 30 May 2018. The 2018 MAXXI BVLGARI Prize, the museum’s project supporting and promoting young art, is gathering pace. This year, thanks to its important partnership with Bvlgari, it has been revised and enriched as it opens to the international artistic scene. From 1 June to 28 October 2018, the works from this edition’s shortlisted artists - Talia Chetrit (1982), Invernomuto (Simone Bertuzzi, 1983 and Simone Trabucchi, 1982) and Diego Marcon (1985), will be shown in an exhibition at MAXXI curated by Giulia Ferracci. Chosen by an international jury composed of David Elliott Independent Curator, Yuko Hasegawa, Artistic Director at MOT in Tokyo, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director at the Serpentine Galleries in London, Hou Hanru, Artistic Director at MAXXI and Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, Director of MAXXI Arte, the shortlisted artists were selected for their “awareness of the historical moment in which we are living and their capacity for expanding the confines of the artistic idiom”. Their works will now be featured in an exhibition from which the jury will choose a winner, and whose work will be acquired by the museum. The press will be offered a preview of the exhibition, which will be inaugurated on Wednesday, 30 May by Giovanna Melandri, President of the Fondazione MAXXI, Jean Christophe Babin, CEO of the Gruppo Bvlgari, the judges Yuko Hasegawa, Hou Hanru and Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, in the presence of the three artists.
