PILOT STORIES DEDICATED to the Memory Of those from the GREATEST GENERATION December 16, 2014 R.I.P. Norm Deans 1921–2008 Frank Hearne 1924-2013 Ken Morrissey 1923-2014 Dick Herman 1923-2014 "Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on Wings of Gold; I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. "Up, up the long delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle, flew; and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God." • Tortured and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, Opposite Michael Douglas
‘CHESAPEAKE SHORES’ Cast Bios JESSE METCALFE (Trace Riley) – One of the busiest actors in Hollywood, Jesse Metcalfe is clearly among its most coveted stars. Most recently, Metcalfe was seen as the lead in the action-packed thriller Hard Kill opposite Bruce Willis, which released globally on August 25th. Metcalfe stars and executive produces the “Martha’s Vineyard Mysteries” movie franchise for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and also starred in Hallmark Channel’s “Christmas Under the Stars” opposite Autumn Reeser and Clark Peters in 2019. In 2018, his presence drew audiences to two action films: the enjoyable Lionsgate thriller Escape Plan 2: Hades with Sylvester Stallone, and the horror flick The Ninth Passenger. As an actor and producer, Metcalfe currently has two other projects in the pipeline, the family drama In Stranger Company alongside Danny Trejo and the forthcoming New York City drama Steps. Metcalfe recently reprised his role as a gritty investigative reporter turned zombie-apocalypse vigilante in Dead Rising: Endgame, the sequel to the 2015 cult classic Dead Rising: Watchtower. He previously starred in the indie film Destined and the critically acclaimed God’s Not Dead 2. In 2006, Metcalfe showcased his comedy chops as the title character in the 20th Century Fox feature John Tucker Must Die. The film, which stars Sophia Bush, Brittany Snow and Ashanti, follows three friends who set out to break the heart of a serial cheater by setting him up with the new girl in town. His other film roles include Insanitarium, The Other End of the Line, The Tortured and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, opposite Michael Douglas.

  • Melanie Welch) – Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to a Diplomatic Family, Emilie Ullerup Grew up All Over the World
‘WITH LOVE, CHRISTMAS’ Cast Bios EMILIE ULLERUP (Melanie Welch) – Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to a diplomatic family, Emilie Ullerup grew up all over the world. After graduating, Ullerup knew she had to pursue her ever-growing appetite for acting. She made the choice to leave her native Denmark to move to Vancouver, Canada, where she attended the Vancouver Film School. Post film school, Ullerup managed to secure a top agent and was sent out on her first real-life audition to book a real-life job. And she did. This out-of-the-gates hot streak continued that same year when she booked leading roles in two TV-shows: “jPod,” which garnered her Best Female Lead in a Dramatic Series at the Leo Awards, a celebration of excellence in film and television, and the worldwide sci-fi success, “Sanctuary.” Ullerup continued her journey and enjoyed versatility in her work bouncing between genres of drama, horror, action and comedy. She spent three seasons on the hit show “Arctic Air” as the lovably temperamental Swedish pilot, Astrid, for which she earned multiple Leo Awards and UBCP Awards nominations. Ullerup can be seen in the Netflix feature film True Memoirs of an International Assassin, opposite Kevin James. She’s also in the feature film, Life on the Line, opposite John Travolta and Kate Bosworth. Her other credits include “Battlestar Galactica” (NBC), “Supernatural” (The CW), “Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Home Again” (Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) and Hallmark Channel’s Original primetime series “Chesapeake Shores,” which recently completed its second season. Ullerup now splits her time between Los Angeles and Vancouver.

  • Smoking Presentation Trends in U.S. Movies 1991-2008
Smoking Presentation Trends in U.S. Movies 1991-2008 Kori Titus, MBA Jonathan R. Polansky Stanton Glantz, PHD BREATHE CALIFORNIA of SACRAMENTO-EMIGRANT TRAILS and the CENTER FOR TOBAccO CONTROL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco, California February 2009 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Tobacco presentations in commercial motion pictures are of serious public health concern because cumulative exposure to this imagery causes large numbers of adolescents to start smoking.1 An estimated 52% of adolescent smoking initiation is attributed to this exposure.2,3 To examine trends in the number of tobacco presentations over time, by Motion Picture Association of America age-classification and North American distributor, we surveyed a large sample of films released to U.S. theaters 1991-2008 to trace the proportion of smoking and smokefree films, incidence of tobacco imagery in films with smoking, tobacco impressions (incidents times paid admissions) delivered to theater audiences, and tobacco brand display. Policy advocacy aimed at reducing adolescent exposure to tobacco in youth-rated (G, PG and PG13) films by modernizing the rating system to rate smoking movies R, with some specific exceptions,4 has been directed at the major studio distributors and their parent corporations since 2001. Some companies have adopted public stances that reflect growing public concern over the issue of smoking in youth-rated films. We pay particular attention to smoking trends in youth-rated films over recent years. KEY FINDINGS Analysis of 1,769 films released over the past 18 years established that: • Most youth exposure to on-screen smoking occurs in youth-rated films, par- ticularly PG13.

THE FILMS OF UWE BOLL VOL. 1 THE VIDEO GAME MOVIES (2003-2014) MAT BRADLEY-TSCHIRGI MOON BOOKS PUBLISHING CONTENTS Foreword Introduction 1. House of the Dead 2. Alone in the Dark 3. BloodRayne 4. BloodRayne 2: Deliverance 5. In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale 6. Postal 7. Far Cry 8. BloodRayne: The Third Reich 9. In the Name of the King 2: Two Worlds 10. Blubberella 11. In the Name of the King 3: The Last Mission Acknowledgments About the Author INTRODUCTION Video games have come a long way, baby. What started as an interactive abstract take on ping pong has morphed into a multi-billion dollar a year industry. When certain video game franchises started making oodles and oodles of money, Hollywood came a knockin' to adapt these beloved properties for the silver screen. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Resident Evil notwithstanding, audiences didn't flock to the cinema to watch their interactive favorites writ large. However, they sell pretty well on DVD and Blu-ray and tend to be made on a meager budget. Thus, video game movies continue to be released. No director has made more live-action video game feature films than Uwe Boll. Holding a PhD in Literature from The University of Siegen, Dr. Boll has shot nearly a dozen of these pictures. It should be noted his full filmography is quite varied and not just limited to video game adaptations; his other movies are often dramas with political elements and shall be covered in two more forthcoming volumes: The Films of Uwe Boll Vol.

THE DOMINION DISPATCH VOL. 1 ISS. 3 PAGE 2 wELCOME BACK! Welcome to Issue 3 of the Dominion Dispatch! It's been a very busy winter so far, with Steampunk Canada making appearances at a number of conventions and events, and planning for the Canadian National Steampunk Exhibition picking up a healthy head of steam. This issue sees a continuation in the trend towards more and more book reviews, which is helped by free review copies from Pyr/Prometheus Books. Pyr, you have our deepest thanks. We are also always looking for reviews of other media, such as music and movies, so please don't hesitate to send them in! Has your group recently had an event of some sort? Send us your photos! Let's show the rest of the world how Canada does “Steampunk” from the west coast to the east. All submissions can be sent to [email protected] cheers, Adam Smith Dominion Dispatch editor-in-chief P.S. Apologies if it appears that this issue of the Dispatch was assembled in a linear fashion... it was. I'm still wrestling with an open source word processor rather than a real desktop publishing program, and it doesn't always behave! So sadly, the double column format was sacrificed for expediency. With luck it will be back next issue. HAND-HEWN NEWS FROM THE NORTH THE DOMINION DISPATCH VOL. 1 ISS. 3 PAGE 3 submission guidelines The Dominion Dispatch is the official newsletter for Steampunk Canada (http://www.steampunkcanada.ca/). We are interested in publishing articles of interest to our Canadian Steampunk audience, and we'll read everything sent to us! However, there are some important considerations to keep in mind: •While we would consider a large multi-page submission or serialization, it would have to be of exceptional quality.
