Tayportians might have noticed a few foreign accents in town this weekend. Visiting the town, although staying in Dundee's Hilton Hotel, is a party of 49 from the AC Ougree club, Liege, Belgium. They aren't here to play, merely for a holiday. The Belgians will be renewing acquaintances at the Ponderosa last night and tonight and some may well try to take in today's game if their schedule permits. The friendship with AC Ougree stretches back to Tayport FC's initial visit to play in Belgium in 1973. llarcl lo spol "ho 's lhc lourisl and who 's lhc !oral )Okel! On Wednesday evening, attention turned to the league title " race, and a crunch fixture away to Dundee North End. Anything other than a Tayport victory would have given rivals Carnoustie a huge boost, and, as expected, a tight affair ensued, with the Canniepairt men claiming three precious Bakery points, courtesy of their 2-1 win. Included in the Dokens' line-up was the legendary 'Port goalscorer Dave Reilly, although it was the club's current leading marksman, Ronnie Kenneth who grabbed the head Nico lines. A couple of defensive lapses during the first half allowed each side to score, with Kenneth's opener being cancelld out by HOME BAKERY and SNACK Grant Houghton's scrambled effort. In a tense second half, 'Port grabbed what proved to be the BAR winner, in the 55th minute when Ronnie Kenneth thundered home an unstoppable volley. Credit must also go to Frazer Fitzpatrick, whose injury time 58-64 BYRON STREET, DUNDEE save, to thwart Bobby Douglas, resulted in a collective sigh of relief from the nervous 'Port support, who were well aware of Tel: 826124 the significance of a positive result, given that the champion ship is nearing its conclusion.
