In-The-Park Grand Slam Home Runs (1876-2019) In-The-Park Grand Slam Home Runs (1876-2019) John Tattersall (1910-1981) created, researched and maintained his Home Run Log, which identified all home runs hit in the major leagues. After his death in 1981, SABR purchased the Home Run Log and it was continued by Bob McConnell and, later, David Vincent. Below is a list (subset) of that Home Run Log showing the identified In-The-Park Grand Slam Home Runs (IPHR-GS). Data has been verified by Retrosheet box scores & Play-by-Play info. Some games prior to 1926 have missing data. The FIELDS in each record are: • Date: Date of the game • Tm: Team that hit the IPHR-GS • Lg: League of that team • Opp: Opponent against which the IPHR-GS was hit • Batter: Batter which hit the bases-loaded IPHR-GS • Pitcher: Pitcher against which the IPHR-GS was hit • Inn: Inning of the game in which the IPHR-GS was hit • Outs: The number of outs at the time the batter game to bat • a-b-t: The score at the time (a=ahead, b=behind, & t=tied game) Date Tm Lg Opp Batter Pitcher Inn Outs a-b-t 2017-09-08 WAS NL PHI Michael Taylor Jake Thompson 3 1 b2-3 2015-09-25 PHI NL @WAS Aaron Altherr Boston Red Sox - His splendid moment - The Boston Globe Page 1 of 3 THIS STORY HAS BEEN FORMATTED FOR EASY PRINTING ONE-HIT WONDERS His splendid moment In a pinch, Hardy gained starring role By Stan Grossfeld, Globe Staff | December 20, 2009 First in an occasional series on memorable Boston sports figures who had their 15 minutes of fame. LONGMONT, Colo. - At 76, former Red Sox outfielder Carroll Hardy is in stellar health, but he knows his obituary is all but set in stone. The only man ever to pinch hit for Ted Williams. “I’m kind of excited by it,’’ says Hardy, a glint in his eye. “I think it’s funny.’’ He’s been described as having the good fortune of Forrest Gump, and for good reason. Hardy also played one year in the NFL and caught four touchdown passes from Hall of Fame quarterback Y.A. Tittle. He pinch hit for a young Yaz and a rookie Roger Maris. He was tutored by the legendary Tris Speaker, coached for the volatile Billy Martin in Triple A Denver, and hit a walkoff grand slam at Fenway Park. He was even responsible for a change in the NFL draft. Hardy was a journeyman outfielder for the Red Sox, Indians, Colt .45s, and Twins who hit just .225 with 17 home runs and 113 RBIs in 433 games over an eight-year major league career. But he received baseball immortality on Sept. 20, 1960, in the first inning of a game in Baltimore. “Skinny Brown was pitching this particular day.

For each exercise, identify one AND ONLY ONE of our fallacies that is exhibited in that statement. GIVE A DETAILED EXPLANATION TO JUSTIFY YOUR CHOICE. 1.) "According to Joe Shlabotnik, the manager of the Waxahachie Walnuts, you should never call a hit and run play in the bottom of the ninth inning." 2.) "Are you going to major in history or are you going to major in mathematics?" 3.) "Bubba Sue is from Alabama. All girls from Alabama have two word first names." 4.) "Gosh, officer, I know I made an illegal left turn, but please don't give me a ticket. I've had a hard day, and I was just trying to get over to my aged mother's hospital room, and spend a few minutes with her before I report to my second full-time minimum-wage job, which I have to have as the sole support of my thirty-seven children and the nineteen members of my extended family who depend on me for food and shelter." 5.) "Former major league pitcher Ross Grimsley, nicknamed "Scuzz," would not wash or change any part of his uniform as long as the team was winning, believing that washing or changing anything would jinx the team." 6.) The part of a major league infield that is inside the bases is a square that is 90 feet on each side. What is its area in square centimeters? You must show the use of units and conversion factors.
