The Centre was established in 1987 and is being supported by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and the Ministry for Europe & Foreign Affairs, Government of France. CEFIPRA is actively involved in supporting Indo-French Science, Technology & Innovation (ST&I) system through various activities. Scientific Collaborative Research Programme focuses on academia-to-academia collaborations between Indian and French academic collaborators in various domains. Both the Governments make equal funding contributions to support core activities and programmes of CEFIPRA. By way of its proactive promotion of S&T research through its Collaborative Scientific Research Programme involving scientists and S&T institutions from India and France, CEFIPRA has emerged as a major S&T knowledge generator. The Governing Body (GB) of CEFIPRA in its 27th and 28th meetings held on 6th March, 2014 at New Delhi & 13th April, 2015 at Paris, respectively, suggested for measuring the impact of CEFIPRA supported projects. Subsequently, the GB in its 29th meeting held on 4th March, 2016 at New Delhi recommended that such an analysis should be done periodically. Accordingly, the first Outcome Analysis Report of research projects completed under the Collaborative Scientific Research Programme (CSRP) during 2011 to 2015 and the Bibliometric Analysis Report on publications resulted from those projects were presented and released during the 30th GB meeting held on 6th March, 2017 at Paris. The present Comprehensive Bibliometric Report has analysed the publications emanated from the research projects, implemented by the Centre since its inception to 2016. During the period 1990-2016, a total of 2372 research publications emanated from these projects are evidence of the productivity and vibrancy of Indo-French collaborations under the Collaborative Scientific Research Programme. These research papers emerged from various S&T domains in 733 journals. It is heartening to note that these papers have been published in Science Citation Indexed Journals with a high impact factor such as Reviews of Modern Physics, Nature, Nature Materials, Cell, Chemical Society Reviews, Science, Nature Immunology, Cancer Cell, Nature Cell Biology, Advances in Physics etc. This multifaceted & comprehensive Bibliometric Analysis study was carried out by CSIR- National Institute of Science Communications and Information Resources (CSIR-NISCAIR), New Delhi on behalf of the IFCPAR/CEFIPRA. CEFIPRA acknowledges the continuing collaborative spirit of Indian & French scientists/researchers which is critical for furthering the human pursuit of knowledge and innovation. We are grateful for them having shared these research results with us and also for acknowledging CEFIPRA in these publications. We are also grateful to the members of Governing Body of CEFIPRA as well as members of Scientific Council and referees of various expert Committees of CEFIPRA for the guidance, encouragement and support, they have given to us from time to time to achieve advancement in knowledge. Dr. Mukesh Kumar Director, CEFIPRA 1 2 ANALYSIS OF PUBLICATIONS OF CEFIPRA- A REPORT IFCPAR/CEFIPRA (Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research/Centre Franco-Indien pour la Promotion de la Recherche Avancee) was established in 1987 as a bilateral institution to act as a nodal entity to facilitate science and technology collaboration between India and France. CEFIPRA recently completed 30 years of its establishment. Research papers are an important output of S&T collaborations and analysis of research papers output can reveal various facets of the Indo-French S&T collaboration programme catalysed by CEFIPRA. This report is an analysis of research papers published from CEFIPRA supported projects. During 1987-2016, 493 projects were approved by CEFIPRA. This study has analysed 2372 papers published during the period 1990 to 2016 from 372 projects. It is found that on an average, 6 research papers resulted from each CEFIPRA project during this period. Maximum number of 167 papers were published during the year 2012. From 2008 onwards, more than 100 papers are being published each year from CEFIPRA projects. Year-wise distribution of CEFIPRA papers is given in Annexure 1. In all, an average of about 24 citations per paper was received during the period. The h-Index of CEFIPRA is 96 which means that there are at least 96 research papers that have received 96 or more citations each. Out of 2372 papers, 2181 papers (92%) were published as SCI covered research journals’ articles, 99 (4%) were proceeding papers and rest were as editorial material, letters etc. as shown in Annexure 2. While impact factor (IF) is a measure of the quality of journals, publication pattern in IF journals is an indicator of research papers as well. Annexure 3 gives the average impact factor (IF) of CEFIPRA papers for each year beginning from 1990 to 2016 which have been in the range of 1.15 to 4.29. Comparison of CEFIPRA average IF with a few other leading research institutions from India for the period w.e.f. 2010 to 2016 (Annexure 4) shows that the CEFIPRA papers have IF around 3 which is similar to other leading institutions such as CCMB, CDRI, IICB, IICT, NIIST etc. The highest average IF of CEFIPRA was 4.298 in 2013. Some high impact factor journals where CEFIPRA papers are published include iconic journals such as Reviews of Modern Physics, Nature, Science, Cell and many more (Annexure 5). 3 Citations are an important indicator of the impact of a paper. The 2372 CEFIPRA papers have received a total of 57,623 citations till February, 2018 at a healthy average of about 25 citations per paper. Annexure 6 gives the year-wise citations. Citation Classics are those papers that have received 100 or more citations. An important highlight of CEFIPRA papers have been that, 86 of its papers can be said to Citation Classics as they have received 100 or more citations. It is noteworthy that 28 CEFIPRA papers have received 200 or more citations till date (Annexure 6a). Collaboration is an important facet of CEFIPRA projects and papers during the period 1990-2016, there were a total of 14273 Indo-French collaborative papers out of which 2372 papers (16.6%) were CEFIPRA project papers (Annexure 7). The 2372 publications from 372 CEFIPRA collaboration projects are grouped under 10 main subjects. Most number of projects are under Life & Health Sciences (80), followed by Pure & Applied Physics (75), Materials Science (68) and Pure & Applied Chemistry (63). However, Pure & Applied Physics projects published highest number of papers (666); followed by Materials Science (475), Pure & Applied Chemistry (449) and Life & Health Sciences (384) as highlighted in Annexure 8. Publications in the domain of Water, Biotechnology, Life & Health Sciences and Earth and Planetary Sciences received more average citations of 33.22, 31.56, 31.06 and 30.42 respectively. Pure & Applied Physics papers have the highest h-Index (57) followed by Pure & Applied Chemistry (54) and Life & Health Sciences publications with an h-Index of 53 (Annexure 9). Annexure 10 shows the distribution of papers and number of projects.
