 My term as Episcopal Vicar for the Mohawk region has ended. I served 4 years of a three year term. Fr. Jun Sequra from Broadalbin and Northville has replaced me for the next three years.  At the vicariate meeting, it was announced that 2 parishes in our region have been having SCAPs (Sunday Celebration in the Absence of a Priest) services this month. Our diocese is struggling to cover all the communities who wish to have Mass offered on the weekends.  Our diocese population of active Catholics has shrunk from 70,000 in 2010 to 52,000 in 2019. Many in our region have chosen not to include frequent Mass attendance in their weekly sched- ule.  This weekend, Mr. Tom Cronin will speak to us about how to invite more to worship with us on the weekend.  As we end the week of prayer for vocations, let us keep in prayer all our young men and wom- en considering God’s call to them to be active as Priests, Deacons, Religious and lay ministers in the church.  On Monday we celebrate the feast of St. Blaise. Let us pray for his protection in this severe cold and flu season.

Have a good week. Fr. Chris Welch
