WASTE [GRI 306-2]

ortonave follows the rules of the National Pol- P icy on Solid Waste regarding the non-gener- ation, reduction, reuse, recycling, treatment and due final disposal of its waste. In 2018, the Ter- minal generated around 2,000 tons: 335.21 tons of hazardous waste and 1,678.65 tons of non-haz- ardous waste. The significant decrease in waste generation over 2016, when around 8,000 tons were registered, is due to the conclusion of civ- il construction works in the Company’s premises and also to the improvement of the processes in REPORT SUSTAINABILITY 2018 PORTONAVE’S the Sewage Treatment Station (ETE), which re- duced the disposal of wastewater through an outsourced company.

CHANGING THE HABIT

To reduce the volume of waste generated at the Ter- minal facilities and encourage professionals to adopt sustainable habits, Portonave intensified the Ecocopo project in 2018. The proposal is simple: replacing all disposable cups used by professionals and third-par- ties for a permanent, more sustainable version. Since 2015, three thousand cups have been distributed for replacement. Thus, each employee has his/her own glass, with space to place their name. The project has an awareness campaign to stimulate the participation: posters on murals, messages on the Company’s cor- porate TV and intranet talking about the importance of reducing plastic consumption, one of today’s major
